Bosses will pay employees wages which are similar to rest of the market too, but there's a few more factors involved. Prior experience/negotiation skills, whether the job market is saturated with quality candidates or lacking + personal bias.

@@sethkoffler2571 Is not about landlord vs racist. The point is that Hassan makes fun of that type of argument as if it was a falacy. The pattern that makes the argument can be applied to anything. The pattern is "I don't hate x because I have x". Some examples:
      - I dont abuse cats because I have one.
      - I dont hate women because my mom is a woman.
      - I dont hate cars because I have one.

@@Alcani3ca yes, but Hasan isn't arguing he doesn't dislike landlords as a concept and using "I have _________ friends" to justify that, hes clarifying that he doesn't dislike any random individual landlord personally just based on the fact that they're landlords, rather he dislikes the economic system that allowslandlords to exist. Hes basically saying I dont hate the players, i hate the game. With a racist argument, there is no game to be hated, if your a racist, you believe every individual black people (or whatever color) are inferior based on the color of their skin, and saying that you have black friends would be a way of denying that your racist, which is not analogous to why hasan said "I have landlord friends"

@@zeroclout6306 I think it is exactly what the problem is on the internet, as I said. Destiny seems to be nothing but an ego-streamer. I don't follow any of this shit.
But what immediately jumped out at me is that most people on the internet would repeat your comment, and they would then parrot the next icon. It's not really about how much you've read or how much you know. It's the brainlessness of following one icon after the other.
Like I said, I think your comment encapsulates perfectly the mentality of the internet, and it scares me that this is still where we're at. People don't learn to think for themselves, because they don't have the foundation for it, because our education system has completely failed them.
I'm sure a ton of people could make your point as well, and prove me wrong on an individual case; but the larger, social argument I'm making holds true. It's just cult of personality, ad infinitum.

Destiny actually thinks that CEOs paid salary as a business expense is their share of the profits? He is extremely ignorant. Profits are distributed to share holders. The McDonalds CEO owns 320,000+ shares out of 8.4 million, roughly 3.8% The value of which increases by just over $1 billion when the profits ($28 billion) of McDonalds of just one year are distributed to those shareholders.
Destiny should know that McDonalds made $28 BILLION in profits and if distributed to all of their 1.4 million U.S. employees, it would amount to over $20,000 a year per worker. And they work roughly 25 hours a week. So it’s about a $15/hr profit they are making on average from their employees. McDonalds is a multi-billion dollar company, like Microsoft and others. This is hard for some people to grasp. McDonalds worker’s labor is the labor of one of the wealthiest corporations in the world. "... in the real world, markets should set the wages". The fact that that the market "should" do this, and yet doesn't should be plenty of indictation that relying on the "market" for any sort of mediation of corporate tyranny is ludicrous. Hasan's right: class antagonism is literally baked into Capitalism. If the ultimate goal of a boss is to maximize profit (which is theft from the workers' production value to begin with), then if the worker makes more, then the boss makes less profit. Ergo, the boss has a natural incentive to pay his/her workers less in order to maximize profits. And as Capitalism also stressed endless growth, even if the market cannot sustain this growth, then it is inevitable that bosses will engage in further and further degradation of their workers to achieve this growth. This, of course, means that Capitalism inevitably leads to corporate tyranny and a regression back into quasi-feudalism (where workers are tied to their jobs by desperation than to the land that is owned by the feudal lord).

There are immediately some huge blind spots. Like wondering why people think billionaires shouldn't exist in a democracy. It's kind of bizarre that he can't see the relevance of comparing CEO pay to average worker pay as a ratio changing over time. His example of picking on a random rich person in a sportscar, which would be random and distracting, makes no sense. The CEO's and average workers are paid from the same revenue, the relevance is self-apparent. He seems to have no grasp of the economic history of financialization, privatization, union-busting, neo-colonialism, outsourcing, etc. as a context for the left economic agenda.
But the annoying thing is the blind reverence for the status quo. It doesn't occur to him that managers are more competent at schmoozing their bosses and controlling the workers more than actual work. He doesn't question where money comes from or how it gets allocated in the first place, he basically just buys into the cartoonish Freidmanite mythos. That and the blatant mischaracterization. Hasan said landlords garner a similar resentment to cops and he calls that a "commie take". That's an odd blind spot, he doesn't understand the idea that managers and banks and landlords and police all enforce the capitalist system of control.

      @b.6.7.f.h. Год назад +1

Near the end, it's frustrating to see someone be so condescending and uninformed simultaneously. Also so lazy and petty. He's ready to succumb to horseshoe theory because many walks of life don't like him personally. It's a little narcissistic and belies the logical truthteller persona.
There are answers to these rhetorical questions he poses, he didn't care to look before stating them authoritatively. He claims people are too dumb and just vote against their interests, but there is a well-funded propaganda infrastructure set up to distract and confuse people. Candidates are not elected per se, but selected by a party process largely based on elite/donor backing. With some critical thinking, you can deduce that people who feel they are being served by the prevailing system are more likely to vote and participate generally to maintain their stake, while disenfranchised people who don't think the system serves them are more likely to be struggling just to survive, not logically assessing their interests and actualizing them or pushing policy priorities. If every eligible person voted we'd likely have better policies. Unfortunately, people are there at every turn to blame any new improvements for the suffering the system already generated.

It's like he's never heard of the Overton window, state capture, manufacturing consent, the entirety of labor history, etc. Either workers are smart enough to pass good policies over the wishes of the literal ruling class that upend the system designed over hundreds of years of legal development to serve them specifically, or they don't deserve a living wage.

@@b.6.7.f.h. Sad to see your comments haven’t received any engagement.
You’re absolutely right. Destiny’s entire “principles first” mentally renders him incapable of engaging with material conditions. He outright condemns people who have a coherent ideology.
Fundamentally incapable of engaging with people who genuinely have a dialectical framework to explain and defend an analysis of material conditions. Why? Because he takes the worst, loudest, most “woke” aesthetic meme people from bloody Twitter. Great justification to angrily dismiss anyone who is _actually_ ideological. Hasan today would’ve handled this a lot better. Mostly because Destiny, despite railing against emotional Twitter and reddit posters, has nothing to provide to this discussion but openly angry, irrational responses to _them_ .

    Like, he’ll say something like
    “Workers are stupid” (motte)
Then when you press him on it, he’ll retreat to a much more defensible position:
“What, are you trying to say that any worker could do a better job than your average manager?” (Bailey)
He also wraps the entire argument up in a straw man, acting like the position of leftists is that managers are completely worthless and any worker could do their job just as well or better.
