I have to say that if I could back in time, I’d give whatever it would cost, and I was fresh graduate from college at the time… but WHATEVER it would have cost, to be in the audience that night!
@@enigmawyoming5201 I attended an "Imaginary Day" album tour show. After performing the entire album, straight through (impressive enough!), Pat then took the mic and went backwards, song-by-song, briefly offering his thoughts about each song, without a single moment of hesitation. 'Very impressive. What a mind.
Probably the greatest musical composition of the last 100 years . There are simply no words to describe it . Joyful . Spiritual . Profound . Thank God for Pat and Lyle .
I pray for his heavenly transition 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Thank you for the music that will ever change my life❤️ I met my husband in Japan at this concert and he also has been called home to our Lord and Savior❤️ 5/12/2020
Best American jazz group ever!!!!!!! Beyond talented!!!!!! Been listening to them since I was in the womb in 1987. My dad use to play them all the time for me!!!!! I really wish I was at this concert! I Love you PMG forever!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't wish for what you could never have. Just enjoy the music and be inspired to go out and look for the next genius - they're out there - and make that moment something you pass to your kids...(from an old guy who saw this tour)
I saw the band in person on the day of the concert, and it was a truly emotional performance, and all of the members shone. The breath of the earth was flowing through the air and enveloping the venue.
Lyle Mays solo is just amazing. I wish it would just go on forever much like the rest of the song. The arrangement by Pat and Lyle is so damn good and I wouldn't have minded if it was another five minutes longer. A favorite of mine since I first heard it. And this version is my go to for this song. Live is always better.
This version of the Pat Metheny Group is the best in my opinion. And this composition may be my absolute favorite. I really love the ending - so powerful and emotional.
If I had only one song to listen to the rest of my life, this would keep me hearing new things in it and put a smile on my face as well. Pat's hands must feel like it's going to fall off after that.
Totally agree!!! This has been my most favorite song of all time...over the Beatles, Zepellin, all of the jazz greats, etc. This is such an uplifting, joyous piece of music and has that total 'trip factor' built in that Pat says he puts into every composition. I have seen him play it many times and it never gets worn out.
It's 5 years later from your last post Marty lemons.its 2021 this is one of my major groups . I was introduced to his music in 1996. "We live here" I hope you're able to read this . Wherever you are God bless you Mr lemons
While Pat Metheny's music is always alive when I play it, seeing him performing makes it come top life in another very special way! What an awesome, accessible composer and performer!
This piece, "Minuano", and "Finding and Believing" are my three favorite PM compositions. I would regard him as a musical genius based on those three pieces alone, but he has accomplished a universe of other achievements as well! I was lucky enough to meet Pat backstage in NYC at the Village Vanguard sometime around 2000 or so (I knew his then bass player Peter Washington from Grad school so he introduced me). I basically told him thank you so much for your amazing musical gifts to Humanity, and also that I think "Finding and Believing" is one of the greatest compositions of the 20th Century and that it really had a profound effect on me - he was pretty floored and so incredibly humble - what a class act. A true musical genius.
And don't under estimate Lyle Mays contribution to the music. He and Pat were so good together. I really love hearing these songs done live. So much talent here on this tour.
Incredibly powerful song. One of their absolute best. I love the intensity of how the song builds. Man, I thought Pats hand was going to fall off! Never seen such fast strumming!!!
Pat Metheny is "The Master of Joyful Music!" This song is one of his masterpieces....my favorite. When I was brokenhearted because I lost everyone, I was determined to find my joy again, all by myself. This version grounded me in joy....proof that I could love myself when no one else cared. Lyle, please continue to play for us in Heaven, in our dreams.
This masterpiece is simply staggering in scope. The variety of instruments and vocals produce a magical sound. Pat Metheny group is in a class of their own!
I really enjoy that guy just “shuffling along” on that percussion gourd, or whatever it is, at 4:17, while the song is clipping along at twice the speed he is.
This is definitely a milestone piece for PMG & Lyle Mays. 25yrs later after discovering this song, I still can’t help not singing along and listen to the various licks and notes and sounds and etc of this masterpiece. Thank you PMG.
PMT Group. #1 Jazz Fusion group. He has sought out unique musicians, unique compositions and melded it all together with that special touch of Pat & Lyle(his most awesome pianist & sidekick)
I have to say, as always with every musician pat has had in his group, that steve's bass playing over the years never ceases to amaze me even though bass isn't my instrument. He is hands down the most musical bass player i know of and when you listen to him what he does, it's mind blowing really. Insane musician ship.
This is, without any hesitation, a modern masterpiece. Brilliant example of exceptional musicians connected by a masterful composition. Hats off to Pat for his awesome leadership.
This is such an incredibly beautiful peice. Pat and Lyle are one of the greatest duo's of this century. Such incredible feeling and care for the composition. Its as if it were a child how they nurture the song or a wife how carefully they romance every phrase as if it were the last one they will ever play. Uncompromisably exquisite..Sorry to be dripping with praise but this peice really got to me. Thanks for maybe understanding, Ha!
SENSACIONAL!! A primeira vez que ouvi FIRST CIRCLE foi em um show que o Pat Metheny Group fez no Brasil há muuuitos anos. Conforme a música ia evoluindo meus olhos ficavam mareados, emoção pura!!
Saw the First Circle Tour at Grady Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, AZ years ago. I saw this tour as well (We Live Here). I regret missing the Imaginary Day tour. Very rare I don't listen to this band do something just about every day.
Perhaps one of the best LIVE performances of REAL musicians that I have ever witnessed. Amazing musicianship throughout each section. (this is one of TWO postings of this video that I have seen, btw) The more Metheny we have around the internet, the better off the world would be. :) Thanks!
a monster of a tune, a monster of a group ... and a monster keyboard player ... Lyle Mays. i always loved this tune, especially Lyle Mays' solo on the cd recording. it was nice to see him tickling the ivories on this video. BRAVO!!!
The most epic piece of music ever written, hands down. For some reason i never cry when listening to music, but if i would, i would drown in my own tears because of the beauty of this piece. Love you, Pat. I'm going with you!
This is Metheny's finest song, even better than "Are you going with me," which has Mays playing a harmonica sound with his right hand on a Korg while his left hand plays an Oberheim 8-voice and it has Pedro Arnaz singing his heart out. This one, however, is joyous and anthemic and makes one stand out and hug the entire audience as we all climb the mountain of sound. I played this at the end of a two-hour memorial for my mother, that's how much I love it....
Saw FC Live somewhere in the NYC metro. OMG! Saw them ~ 5 times from 1987 to 2005 OMG ! I had a SVHS copy of this concert from Japanese TV that produced it....but don't know where it is ;-(
Obrigado Pat!
Been listening to this several times a year for decades.....I think this may be the greatest single song ever written. It's flawless.
Agreed
Probably once a week for me for those decades and I have to agree with you!
Agree it’s a good song and Pat seems to be put through his paces with tempo so fast at times but my favorite from this albums is End of the Game.

I agree have you listened to “New born” and “Long Life” both life affirming from cradle to grave. Both by LM
Amen brother… I’m missing him now… again, in 2022.
Me also. My heart aches for his absence. He enriched my life so much with his haunting piano.

Same!
I am convinced it is Lyle that drives this song! He is present EVERYWHERE in this masterpiece!
Myles carries!
RIP sweet Lyle....🥺
YES but tell the producer! Lyle is doing all the heavy lifting and we see hardly any of it.

Every single second of this is magic.

This is a masterpiece. Bravo! My mother loved this group and their music is the last she ever heard when she died at 97 yrs.

Such a beautiful song. My father would always this song every Saturday and Sunday morning. I absolutely love Pat Metheny
This just never gets old for me.
Always the version I return to. Now listening after the sad news of Lyle's death :(
Agree. I was shocked to find out today he had recently died. Not even that old.
@@robertjensen1048 Quite sad indeed, feeling sad for the whole planet on this day also.
No! How very sad.
This group is a national treasure.
My favorite version. Pat Metheny + Lyle Mays = Perfection.
Kat Tyler
Pat Metheny y Peter Gabriel en tu lista 👍😉😚
A thought like that is perfection.
I agree!! Wonderfull this version!! Pat, Lile, vocals!!
This masterpiece is simply staggering in scope. The variety of instruments and vocals produce a magical sound. Pat Metheny group is in a class of their own!

Epic is an understatement. This song is best heard live in concert. Amazing, classy and classic.
I was lucky enough to see them perform this multiple times, simply transcendent!

Out of words. Thanks for sharing!
It's an optimistic song, a song for celebrating the joy of living, the way Pat does
This is amazing how it sounds so major in minor!!!! Unique composition so much happiness, sun and some pain the same time...
This was the first album i got of these excellent musicians.
I love this song for years..!
One of my most favorite, favorite, favorite albums!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Two things: This is the quintessential jazz song!! Metheny plays the acoustic guitar with such ferocity in this song!!
Whole different approach to guitar music for me in the 70s I feel so lucky to be able to have heard it and pass it on. Drink it in my friends.
Firs time I “see” live the two voices at the end. Very few pieces have the energy of First Circle! Really, this inspiration came from above! No less!
Just love this piano solo... Lyle Mays is the ultimate jazz pianist!

Breathtakingly perfect and sublime!
Live performance and the Pat Metheny Group sound nearly identical to the recording. A testament to amazing musicians!
Kurt Burgess except for the solos which are totally different
The different solo parts are always the best parts in jazz
Brilliant Playing.
This was the best formation of the pat Metheny group. Lyle and Pat are the best musicians of all time
It's just beautiful, the real music. First heard it in a friend's place and I was amazed~~love it.
