- This week has been a roller-coaster for the Tampa Bay Rays, Pinellas County, and St. Petersburg leaders after two high-stakes public meetings. The team said the deal to build a new stadium was off, county leaders decided to delay the financing vote, and city leaders are not fixing Tropicana Field's roof. The big question: What now?

Come to Ybor City
That’s the best option….
COME TO TAMPA FLORIDA WE GOT ROOM FOR YOU AKA YBOR CITY WE READY TAMPA BUILT LIKE THAT💯
@@marthashepherd935 it only makes sense… put the stadium there. Increase the trolley infrastructure that’s already established ….. plus increase garages and that be a good start
Ybor 🎉😂😅
you wish 😂😂😂😂
Get out of St. Pete! Come to Tampa!
Thats what they should've done move near amalie arena
Let's be crystal clear......The Tampa Bay Rays make Millions of dollars each and every year.....the team is estimated value is at over 1.5 Billion Dollars For the past 25 years the Tampa Bay Rays have made on Average 250 Million per year. This deal truly should be 50/50. The Rays saying they dont have the Money is just a plain Lie!! They are not destitute!!
I guarantee you're a Biden Harris voter.I guarantee it because you're so completely upside down and wrong loser
Anyone that has a brain knows Stu is and always was the problem
If this franchise wants a chance at long term success, it is imperative that it leaves St. Pete. It amazes me that anyone, who is thinking clearly, could possibly think it is a good idea in any way shape or form to stay in St. Pete. It is over. It is a failed experiment. It is time to move on, and put that baseball team in a town that deserves it. The city leaders of St. Pete might want the Rays in town, but it is beyond obvious that the citizens of that area and their fan base do not want to go to baseball games in St. Pete.
Of course you're speaking complete common sense.Thank you sir or ma'am whatever
go away
@@ClydeHUC The only people who can't see the common sense in my comment are Rays fans who are in complete denial. I lived in that area for many years, did internships with the Rays, worked as a full time employee of the Rays, and met and talked to more fans than you could imagine.
Now if you want to talk about a lack of common sense, just look at the attendance for the Rays compared to the rest of the league. By the way, this is not the attendance of a cellar dweller team, this is a team that drew an attendance of 8,000 fans during the last week of a season in which they were still fighting for the division. It would take some seriously twisted mental gymnastics to make a "common sense" argument to keep the Rays in St. Pete.
Of course, instead of making a common sense argument yourself, you chose to use your comment to try to insult me, because you know you don't stand a chance in hell of making a quality common sense based argument for the Rays staying in St. Pete.
So why don't you use this opportunity to do some self reflection about why it is that you feel you need to be a jerk to random people from behind your keyboard about a very simple and logical statement that I made that was based in facts, and a personal first hand account of the organization and the traffic patterns that surround that stadium.
Let's improve Rays attendance by building a stadium... in the same place (??)
Obviously it's not really about improving attendance because that makes no sense. It's probably about the Rays investment and control over a proposed new St Pete district. You'd get a first year bump for the novelty of a new stadium, but that would quickly wear off.
This is a team who drew 19,700 to their opening playoff game last year. Lowest attendance in any playoff game since 1919. A team who averaged 9,400 fans during their best 100 win season.
Obviously stats don't lie, but if you are in the Tampa Bay community, you also are aware that there is little buzz about the Rays, no matter how well they are doing. The interest lies with Football. Hard truth is people just don't care. You can't force them to with a new stadium, relocated or not.
The Ray's need to stay in Tampa. Knock down the Trop and build affordable housing with that money.
No
@@sirchi8731Why ❓ You against homes 🏡 for people ❓
@zcorpalpha2462 stadium first than homes
Can’t. Pinellas commissioners are too busy playing divas to get the deal done….
Not sure how it is that the rays need to stay in Tampa, as they've never been in Tampa.Okay wake up
We don't get Hurricanes in San Antonio! 👌
My sister lives there lol itd be cool if the mlb was in san antonio texas
@realandrewcinque22 Hell yeah!
This shows just how sleazy the owners of sports franchises can be. They are in it to make as much money as possible. And if that means renegging on a deal, they will do that in a heartbeat.
Professional sports and even college sports are just like sleazy politicians.
Everyone is blowing this big time. The city royally effed up by letting the insurance policy go, the voters elected conservative county commissioners who want no parts of funding the Rays, and the cheap ass owner who is trying to strong arm the taxpayers into paying for it. I'd be fine if the left.
They should build a new stadium in Tampa
Itd be nice
Sad if they leave
St Petersburg is degrading
Ashamed
The Rays are definitely going to relocate. The question is. Where will they go? Nashville? Charlotte? San Antonio? How about Montreal, Buffalo, New Orleans, Orlando, or even Birmingham? Nashville would be the #1 choice.
You didn't mention Salt Lake City, but that's where the A's end up because Las Vegas would rather have an expansion team. Between the Rays and the A's this is getting downright silly. 🤣
@@713davidh42 I think the A's would be better off in Salt Lake City. Las Vegas will probably get an expansion team in the A.L West and Nashville in the National League, but that won't happen for at least another ten years. Dave Stewart was working on a project to get an expansion team in Nashville and call them the Nashville Stars. I also forgot to mention the Rays moving to Orlando.
Then again, didn't the city of Las Vegas approve the new stadium for the A's, once they demolished the old Tropicana Hotel resort? I guess the Rays will move to Nashville and Salt Lake City and San Antonio will be the next cities for MLB expansion in the distant future. I thought Portland and Charlotte would be the first two choices for MLB expansion, but those two cities are now dying markets for baseball.
the Austin Bats
I guess with the roof gone, they can get those Canseco home run balls that got stuck in the framework.
Thatd be cool if they got all those old balls outta there
St Pete is dumb place. Population centers are too far away for that location to work without investing in a multi billion dollar Light Rail Transit system for public transportation. There’s a reason baseball teams are in larger cities downtowns with 81 games played at home. To keep parks filled you gotta have population centers in 360 degrees of park and St Pete is an inconvenient hike for places that are outside of pinellas
Its even a hike inside pinellas, an hour from clearwater or tarpon to get to the city in Rushour traffic and lights.
The Trop is the WORST Location you can think of for a major league stadium, maybe minor leagues in the winter back in the day for tourists and boomers, but today it makes no sense
Besides are tax dollars belong to the beachs which need repairs
The Braves are in the northwest suburbs and it is not a problem for them. Fifth highest attendance in the league.
The Rays have the lowest attendance in baseball year after year. But, their TV ratings are always good. Doesn’t that tell you something? Why would you spend all that money and make the same mistake. The stadium needs to be in Tampa.
Jerry Jones built jeri world stadium with no taxpayers money. Imho, half way between Orlando and Tampa on I4 is the ideal location for a new stadium. Orlando, Tampa, and Polk county would probably chip in.
Rays need to temporarily relocate and have them come back with a new stadium!! They can play In Montreal for 3-4 years and give that city hope just like the Hornets did when they had to relocate to OCK temporarily even if they didn’t have to build a new arena. Point is they can baseball in Tampa even at the cost at a setback.
A relocation to Montreal would be permanent. From the club's perspective, it would be more lucrative
Montreal sucks
@@realandrewcinque22 you live in NY? Are you a Yankees fan?
@@herotomillions4095 The Expos failed there. Not to mention I've heard Olympic Stadium is an awful stadium.
@@RYMAN1321 MLB failed the Expos. Not the other way around. Olympic Stadium baseball facilities were renovated 10 years ago. The roof and seating is being renovated now scheduled to be complete by 2028. Do you find it odd that a baseball first stadium is being renovated to the tab of $900 million that doesn't have any tenant and is scheduled to be complete right when the lease is supposed to end at the Trop? The Big O is a stadium without a team, and the Rays are a team without a stadium
If they are going to stay in Tampa bay area, TAMPA is the only answer not St. Pete.
nope to many criminals in Tampa 😂
Their is nothing worse than listening to billionaires cry. Just go away!!
I hate tax payers who cry broke when it's time to pay up
Rays have a standing offer of $900 million from Salt Lake City, UT for a new stadium. Remember that you wanted this…
@@tringuyen7519SLC is a winter sport Mecca. Certainly not a place for baseball. No one would show up for the games there either.
Bring the franchise bk to Orlando!
They were never in Orlando
Move it to Tampa.
Either the city of Tampa changes its mind on ballpark funding in Ybor City or y'all better be praying the Rays are only going to Orlando
Noone here cares about the Rays, we care about getting to see the AWAY Teams from our Hometowns taking on the ways.
@@sarahlachman1349speak for yourself… don’t say “we” if you aren’t an actual Floridian. “We” true Floridians love all of our teams. Hope you are enjoying living here instead of where you are originally from though. ✌🏻
Let the billionaire owner find a new sucker to pay for half of his stadium tampa will not the rei in a stadium deal for a city is not good let the rays leave
@@chuckdameron5626 - well, San Antonio might work. Would the Rays stay in the same division? I doubt it.
MLB Should Monitor The Situation Closely
Lets see what the commissioner says aboit this
Orlando is the easiest move ever
That would be a good idea
I hear Oakland has a stadium available
I dont think the rays will be moving to oakland
Go to Orlando
Hopefully they leave. Nobody goes to the games anyway
Right because they're insane pete
They should move near amalie arena or in san antonio TX
Tampa want the Rays so bad 😂😂😂😂
Naahville
Nah san antonio texas is better
Beaches OVER Baseball! Demo the Trop and kick out the Rays, the Yankee's stadium they're playing at by the Airport should be their new permentent home, just maybe with a new stadium.
Either way Baseball in St.Pete is dead or should be. In the meantime our homes, hotels and beaches need that money instead. Also it seems like the Rays are broke lol and couldn't come up with the funds anyways so they'll need to find a city out of state willing to pay for it all. I doubt Canada is willing but who knows.
Rays should move to nashville or San Antonio TX
they need 2 give up and move the team 2 hillsbrough county let us have the team now u guys in saint petersburg and pinelles county need 2 learn how 2 shaire the team u guys had the team for a long long time now
They can use other existing ball parks. No tax payer money should be used. Greedy billionaires and millionaire players.
Move to Nashville. Florida baseball isn't working. And forget expansion, unless they can change baseball's screwed up economics and make it a level playing field for all teams.
I like the Ray's franchise. I wish MLB would work in Florida. But people just don't seem to care.
Nah san antonio TX is better
The Marlins won two World Series in their first decade, so something had to work there though.
GET RID OF THE CHEAPEST OWNER IN ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS!!!
There's an open stadium in Oakland😅
leave ! We can't afford the stadium!
Yeah.
Get out.I agree, I would only support a stadium only if it was in Tampa and only if the team paid for it.We shouldn't pay one cent for it.Look it out the buccaneers screw us over and over and over again and still do
They should go to san antonio tx
It will suck with the weather, but figure out a way to play at Ray Jay for a few years until a Tampa stadium is built. Maybe even partner with the Bucs for a new multipurpose dome.
Montreal Expos return
Rays should become san antonio rays and play in texas
Stay
That is if trop can get fixed
I’m a New York Mets fan living in New Jersey while billionaires cry foul about there lives the Rays need to move to a city that can support them look at Oaklands situation it’s no better
Love the mets
Rays should go to san antonio tx
Move the Rays to Salt Lake City and rename the franchise just like they did with the Arizona Coyotes NHL franchise.
I hate salt lake move rays to texas
@realandrewcinque22 No. Texas already has two teams and Utah is looking for one.
So whom is actually responsible for the Trop? Are the Rays responsible for repairs to a field that they lease?! Obviously, I do not know of the agreements between the parties, however, it would seem the owners would be responsible for the repairs to their own property. The only thing I could see where there would be a rift is that the Rays signed a lease on the property that includes repairs in unforeseen circumstances. I will wait to hear more about the legality before I take a side. I will say, Tampa / St. Pete could and will potentially loose a much needed tourism income from the Rays if they make it to difficult.
How about Vero Beach Rays?! 😊 With that said, I hope they can resolve this, and I am sure there is a lot of conversation on the backend that won’t be reported. Go Rays!
The Rays always should have played in Tampa. I don't care if it's new Tampa. I don't care if it's Midtown by Raymond. James go to ebor fairgrounds. Just come to Tampa and you're having a massive massive success. I don't know, common sense is hard to come by in. The liberal governments of pinellas and Hillsborough County. Yeah, wherever liberal governments exist, there is complete parallel paralysis and failure.
I think near amalie would be cool
They should leave and go to Montreal
Move the team to Montreal Canada ! Go,Expos !
Weren't the Expos not overall popular enough to sustain it there though? Especially after 1994? Not to mention I've heard Olympic Stadium is / was an awful stadium.
Time to move, not a good market
