Good job with the demo's I just got a DJI mini 3 PRO and can't seem to find out from anyone whether or not it has Precision Landing? Its usually a foot or 2 off when it lands. What to you think....has or doesn't have?
I commented before about my mavic air being off 8 to 10 feet when it returned home, that’s after letting it slowly ascend to 20 feet to record its home point. The issue was my imu being out of calibration, apparently that part gets just a little off each flight is what my research concluded. I was also having some drifting with the spark and the mav air when I stopped to hover. I now calibrate the imu after 4 or 5 flights on both drones. They both now return to home point and land almost exactly where they launched from, and drifting in hover is just a bad memory now. Just thought I would mention that was my issue. Allowing them to hover a few seconds once they launch is very important as well!
Bill The Drone Reviewer , awesome channel Bill, always comment and smash like, good info in your content , I’ve had a chance to look through a lot now, nice channel.
OK, but, does the precision landing, still work, if you manualy take off? And, what actualy "Takes" the photo, is it an optical image, or, is it, that it just pricisely registers, the GPS ?
I have a 4 foot diameter bulls eye painted on a side walk in my front yard, I’ve tried all dark and with the spot lit by a couple of really bright flashlights, the lights help , but my spark nor my mavic air do quite as well in the dark , the light helps the mavic air more than the spark. Both hit the four foot circle with no lighting on it , waiting until they acquire about 15 satellites gets a better result after dark though for sure. I can only speak for the spark and mav air though. I’ve been playing around with the kitty hawk mission planner is why I’ve flown enough night flights to know this. Flying through the kitty hawk app almost consistently gets a better result than the go4 app after dark. Main thing in the really dark is sometimes they are going down too fast to allow them to land softly enough and I have to do it manually. Dji drones don’t like total dark at all , at least those 2 models anyhow.
Thanks for the info does the GPS work with the sensors off?l've got a mavic pro but wanted to fly at night but the warning signs come on that theres insufficient light could I just turn off the sensors would it still return to the home point ok for me to land manually?
Bobby BoBLaD , I’ve no experience with a mavic pro, however if they are anything like the spark or mav air it’s in one of two modes and there are no other options. Those being GPS or Atti mode. If it’s not in atti then the GPS mode is working. Both the spark and the M.A. work fine in the dark in GPS mode. My mav air also gives me that exact warning once the sun is down( doesn’t even have to be completely dark) , but it turns those sensors off automatically when it can’t use them. Just try a couple of really short tests, that’s what I did at first with the spark, just flew it to the edge of my yard and hit return to home, you can only see very lit up things on the ground though, so I added 20 meters to the return to home altitude, from 30 to 50 meters , but I’ve got a lot of tall trees all around me. Hope some of that helps. Oh, fog, watch out for fog or really low clouds at night, if you encounter any you may have to turn off all your sensors to get the drone to fly forward, day time fog doesn’t seem to be nearly as much issue as it is at night.
@@noonespecific9463 thanks I'll give it a try I just wasnt sure if the GPS home point works with sensors off but theres no reason why not I guess also thx for the fog in dark warning :)
Bobby BoBLaD , I would be interested to hear how it goes with your after dark flights, also I think I mentioned the Kittyhawk app , specifically the mission planner in the app. You can make your drone orbit a hotpoint (that’s what the app calls it) and fly a set of way points. The app does all the flying allowing you to just operate the camera and gimbal. When the drone orbits the place you specify the drone flys sideways keeping the front pointed at that point. The way points are flown totally autonomous, you just start the drone and hit the start button, the drone takes off and ascends to the altitude you set then flies the way points and returns and lands. You also have the option to make the drone point in a different direction than the one it’s flying , although I haven’t figured out all the different options you can use yet. If you don’t already have Kittyhawk it may be something of interest for you, it’s completely free, there is a paid version but I haven’t wanted to do anything that requires that version yet, I believe it’s just if you want to broadcast your flights live to others that you need the paid version. You can also get approval to fly in controlled airspace around airports that use the lannc system, so far I’ve gotten instant approval each time I’ve submitted a request.
i think you should do the same test with out doing the hovering portion, by taken straight out toward the lake to see if it will still land spot on. This will validate that the hovering for a few seconds is needed or not.

The issues that I had with my Mavic 2 pro doing precision landing was fixed with an IMU and Compass Calibration. Good video! I would like to see all DJI drones having support for the Smart Controller! That would be cool!
Hi BIll., great video again. Can I ask a question. As a user of the Mavic 2 also, I still have a fear of flying over water. A while back this was a problem for the sensors. Can you confirm if this issue was ever resolved. keep up the great work on this channel. Best regards from Dublin, Ireland
Gareth thank you for the great comment. The problem with flying over water is when you are less than 20 feet or so the reflection off of the water can cause issues for the sensors on the bottom of the Mavic 2. I always fly at 100 feet or more in altitude and don't have any issues.
Thanks for the vid, nice setting. All four of your landings were really precise. I noticed there was little or no wind for your tests. I've found that even the slightest wind in the moments after takeoff will have a profound effect on the accuracy of the landing whether you select precision landing or not. In either case, the drone needs to rise absolutely vertically above the take off spot for a really good precision landing.
Useful info for those that need it, my Phantom 4 Pro V2 is my go to drone, even over my Mavic Pro 2. Never use auto take off, don't need the precision landing or RTH feature. However its nice to know that its works if necessary.
@@davidgarrison1988 Most of the guys I fly with agree on the P4 P V2 being very slightly better in the video image quality especially if you like to shoot in 60fps versus the Mavic max 4k frame rate at 30fps. Wouldn't it just be simpler if DJI programmed it to specifically notify you that it has all it needs for precision landing? The whole ambiguous waiting for an arbitrary time just doesn't sit well with me. I like positive feedback!
Airwolf i over emphasized the wait to make sure everyone noticed that I paused. A slight pause is needed to take the picture of the landing area so it could be matched during precision landing. Thank you.
@@BillTheDroneReviewer Oh I get that, I'm just saying that it would be better if DJI had the drone report that it did in fact get the picture for precision landing. Confirmation is golden!

Bill, I hope you don’t mind my honest feedback, this was an unnecessary long video. Simply showing the same result four times is first of all dull and does not confirm that what you did ensures the precision landing. Show us once how to do it right and what happens if you do it incorrectly. I hope this helps you in some way.
