  • The IDÅSEN desk is Ikea's most premium Sit/Stand desk. In this video, I'm taking a look at different aspects of the desk such as functionality, quality, and looks. You'll find out if it's worth buying. I got the (largest) 160-cm by 80-cm. I love the size.

    One thing to keep in mind when you use another tabletop. The Idasen tabletop is light so you have enough wheight to put on it before you exceed the 75kg limit for the motor. If you use a solid tabletop it can add wheigt. For example I used a solid plastic table of 50kg... together with the attributes on the table it was too heavy for the motors.

    thanks so much man! I've been looking for a good electric sit/stand desk for ages but never knew which one to go for. I think this one is the best one because it has the linak systems which is super high quality, 10 year warranty, very sturdy and decent design. AND IS ONLY £500. Bargain for something this good. Now I will buy it. Thanks for making my decision easier

    I would recommend adding an extra strong plate plus cushion (can be plastic) under the monitor arm fasteners and optionally also above if they are too small, especially for heavier monitors, and especially if you don't want the fasteners to dig into your tabletop with time.

      What did you get? I think the motor is too weak for that. Regarding anchor point, you could tap into the existing, reinforced points using a makeshift adapter if things do not line up- e.g., steel piece or even wood with a bunch of holes in it. Easy.

It's obviously great for voice overs, but I would suggest a hidden mic like people on TV clip on. That way you can use it for the unboxing as well because the sounds was pretty crappy here compared to the rest of the video. But all in all.. WOW

    Great review I have the same, bigger size (160cm x 80cm) which fits my 38" LG Curve monitor and another Dell 27" in Portrait mode (no monitor arms). I will see if I can use the Vivo under desk computer mount to fit in my Mini PC tower which will make it look a lot neater. For those who can't decide on colour top I would highly recommend NOT choosing the black one, it's just way too dark especially in a dimmish room. Overall very solidly build unit with clean design.

    Nice! At least I know I can safely attach one of those clamp style monitor mounts!
    I ended up buying the exact same configuration you bought, that being the 160×80 cm brown table top with the grey base, although as I live in Singapore, the power adaptor on mine has a British plug, but at the same time, it seems mine came with a revised power adaptor design that's not covered in the manual _(dated 18 November 2019, and which also mentioned the Schuko plug wall wart for SG)_ where there's a short DC cord, long AC cord, is a power brick that appears to be designed to be hidden inside the horizontal bar that connects the two legs, although I also tied a knot for strain relief, and used some double sided tape to tape down the power brick.

      I'm unable to confirm, but I feel as though the table top might be sagging when I look at it from a distance, though I think it's because of the cross brace (that houses some of the electronics for the mechanism) that's preventing it from sagging too much. I don't think it's sagging too much when I look at the middle of that cross brace.

    The only challenge with this desk is that the tabletop is not solid (as you mentioned) and it bends in quite easily on the longer version. I have the Bekant desk in white with the dark brown tabletop. These desks sway like that only when being raised or lowered. They have a corrective balancing mechanism that prevents the legs from becoming misaligned. But the Bakant desks are normally almost as stable as a fixed desk. I honestly would expect the same from the Idasen. The build quality and action seems to be about the same.

    my same desk has a strange issue, it's doesn't stop and go back, but instead half of times when I try to move it, it will stop after 1 cm like it is blocked or something and afterwards resume after 1-2 seconds while keeping pressed the lever. This glitch might happen 2 times in a row when switch from set to standing presets or the other way. The reset doesn't fix

    Great content. Could you tell me if your table after using it for a few months has started to warp because of all the weight on it? Do you see any bending in the slightest form? Do you roughly know how much weight have you placed so far as compared to a max weight capacity of 70-75kg?
    Thanks!

  • @federicoverdicchio

    Hey thanks a lot for this thorough review. As others have said I also agree a stability test would have been nice. I'm thinking of buying one with a solid wood top as my music production setup. How much weight do you currently have on top? Desktop PC must be pretty heavy and also your KRKs. I would have a pretty similar setup but I need to add a shelf underneath for an 88key midi controller that weights about 13 kg. What do you think? Thanks!

    • @felixkruip
      @felixkruip  2 года назад +1

      Actually, it is still going super strong. Currently have KRKs on monitor arms, and an extra ultra wide monitor. I am very surprised by how much weight the normal desk top can carry. Thanks for the comment!
      I wouldn’t trust mounting 13kg weight under the top with screws. A solid wooden top might be great for that.

    If I lower my Idåsen after not using the motors for a while, my desk jerks slightly and makes a "kadonk" sound as its begins lowering. It's nothing major but noticeable.
    If I then keep moving it up and down, it starts moving more smoothly. But after a long break it's as if the motors become surprised that they're activated again. I'm way below the maximum weight and the screws are tight.
    Raising it is never a problem. Is that normal?

    • @felixkruip
      @felixkruip  3 года назад +1

      That doesn't sound great... I'm not an expert, but I would send an email to Linak since they handle the motor part. I would also call Ikea to ask for any help.
