I very rarely leave comments but I MUST say your video helped me out so much with picking out motion sensor lights! Thank you for your time, energy and resources used for making this video!
Hello, I needed to comment and say, this honestly was the best solar light review I’ve come across. 👍 You covered the size of the solar panel, size of the battery, how accurate the lumen specs were, motion sensor etc. even the examples side by side to compare the color of the light. In short, every thing I was wondering as I was researching these. Your video was so helpful and I love that you compared different brands. thank you so much! The only extra spec I would have liked to know was how accurate the claims of hours of illumination based on full charge are but I really appreciate the work you put into this useful and short video. Thank you. I usually only subscribe to science and makeup videos, lol, but I’ll be subscribing to you now. Thx.
DITTO THAT! He did an excellent presentation in my opinion. I would give him on a scale of 1 thru 10, without doubt a 10. One BIG thumbs up to Joe N Tell...
Agreed! most reviews are less than useful - this reviewer took the time to cover all the bases and answered all the common and not so common questions, big thumbs up !!
Really a great review! You systematically went through all the points that a buyer would want about these lights. Your comparisons really helped illustrate each unit's strengths/weaknesses, and you were to the point. Thanks
Good comparison! I have several DrawGreen 1400 and they are great. I think my version is a bit different than the one shown. I have 3 modes Off, Dim/Full & Off/Full. in the Off/Full mode, it comes on full blast when the motion sensor is tripped. Great light and I have installed several. Never had an issue with battery life in the Off/Full mode. light lasts 20-30 seconds. Thanks for the video.
I enjoyed this video and appreciate the time, effort, and expense you put into making this. We have the DrawGreen with the swivel solar panel. It's installed on a telephone pole about 9 feet high at a dead end street in the Caribbean. The street has no other lighting. The DrawGreen light has been there for 2 years, still working perfectly despite tropical rain, sun, and earthquakes. It was installed primarily for safety. When we first installed it, I was worried someone might try to steal it. LOL, since the motion sensor gradually turns on, strangers look up and think they are being recorded so they move along to find somewhere else to be nefarious. I think the light with the remote would be great for nocturnal outdoor activities and the one with the batteries would be great for places with little sunlight and frequent electric service interruptions. They all had merits for different needs, as clearly demonstrated in your video. The sneaking around in the dark gave your video a touch of humor considering these lights might be used to scare away intruders. Keep up the good work!
Hi Joey. I have been on Amazon for the past 45 minutes trying to figure out the best solar light to purchase. I was about to flip a coin but decided to check RUclips for videos. Your review was the first and the most comprehensive (loved you sneaky burgler reenactment) Thank you so much. I am going to get the Sunforce. 💡
What I haven't noticed from other reviewers is they don't really measure the actual distance it takes to trigger motion sensor. Why not put a marker on the floor in feet or metres and walk past each? That would be awesome. Just a suggestion, otherwise liked your review 👍👍👍
Great review! I just started doing research on this type of lighting and you really put a lot of important information in here that I need to be aware of, thanks!
bless this review! gave me everything i needed from a review without any useless talking like in many other videos. love how concise you are and how structured and thought out your video review is. can you do a review on solar string lights? on brightness and dust/waterproofness, because many outdoor lights have different IPXX ratings and all of them don't seem to be bright enough to light a patio or balcony
Westinghouse solar floodlights have give me long life & good value in the long run. I recommend it. I have them. My mom has them & and I purchased them for my sister a couple of years ago.
You just got a subscriber based off of this stellar review. Was looking at getting a few of these for my shed and garage so I don't have to run extra wire. Ordered me one of the sunforces, if I like it I'll order 2 more for my shed 😁
Thats so much for the Information on the lights!Live way out in the Countryside in Virginia and is so nice to have lights if I get home after dark with grocerys. Also nice at night for Security to help us be Safer!!Just Subscribed and Thanks For Your Effort Much Appreciated!!
Nice review! One thing that frugal consumers need to think about is user battery replacement. Many of these solar lights will end up perfectly usable when their battery or batteries fail & stop holding a charge, IF the user can easily purchase & replace the batteries themselves. Standard 18650 lithium ion batteries and standard NiMh batteries are the easiest to purchase at a fair price and they will survive a good number of charge cycles. NiCd is old school! The battery access compartment should be easy to get into but also watertight & weatherproof. Product durability & longevity, lifetime operating cost, ease of maintenance, and relative performance are all important to cover in a product review.
i know all products usually have a number of naysayers, but you recommended light on amazon has 11% negative, which is kinda high- many claiming the unit quit working pretty fastly- and claiming it isn't waterproof- and that the sensor fills up with water? Should check these kinds of lights out for waterproofness? (As the main areas they are used is outdoors- I'd think the company would have tested it first before putting it out to public- make usre it was 100% waterproof)
Thank you for sharing Bc I've been asking people who works in stores "Which is your best solar/motion lights?" I got an answer IDK I haven't tried them ... I'm looking for the brightest and what is the Best. Pls tell me the name of the White one that is your favorite and Brightest. Thank you! Aloha
Good general info on outdoor solar powered lights. Your comparison of brightness on the products is flawed, however, because they do not have the same amount of LED bulbs. The brightest of them all as you mentioned is the last item obviously because it has the most number of LED units in it.
This video is well made and informative. My biggest concern with these lights is how do they hold up to all weather conditions as in heavy rains, wind, snow, etc. Solar lights kick @$$ because no electrical wiring for novice handymen as in myself.
Hi. I like your video very much. The led lights that I have are the ones you said in your video that are the best. Lately the have be come very dim. Like if the solar panel is not charging the bateries. Do you think it's the solar panel or that the batteries are going bad ?
You are fabulous in your recountre or recounting of your very succinct review of the solar security lights I'm looking for. I think I'll try the Sunforce, thank you kindly.
1st, great video, I appreciate the time you took to get this stuff together and give examples of all the lights. I wanted to say ( if someone hasnt already ) that you were measuring lux which is the unit used to measure light over an area. 1 lux is 1 lumen over 2 sqr meters. your phone was only a couple feet away so it was not really giving you an honest measurement of lumens or lux in your desired installation location.
About the Sunforce 82183 light... Hi! I really enjoy your videos, I was wondering if this product is still working correctly? I'm looking for a very bright and DURABLE outdoor light
You want a dependable motion security light, hot wire is the way to go. I do own the white one with separated solar panel, it's not as bright as my hot wired one and the area of coverage is smaller. I wish the wire attaching to the solar panel could be a little longer, they do sell the aftermarket extension wire but I just don't want to spend the extra money.
1. For the Sunforce light, can an extension cable be added to the solar panel? 2. And if so, what kind of cable would be needed? 3. Also, have you tried the Sunforce 82204 LED Solar Motion Light, Twin Head, 200-LED? Thank you! And great video review!
Thank you for a very informative video, I am wondering how long will each one last if there are activities in front of each one of them. FYI I have the Sunforce all around my house but it only lasts for 30 mins max during outdoor activities at my house. I agree Sunforce is the brightest but good only for 30 mins, (After 10 minutes the light starts to dim slowly.)
I forgot - I have 4 InnoGear Solar Gutter Lights Wall Sconces with Mounting Pole Outdoor Motion Sensor around my Gazebo and it is still working after 3 years.
The problem with most of these are that the manufacture does not build them with charge controllers so the 18650 batteries get over charged constantly and severely deteriorates the battery life.
The on/ off switch is the first thing to fail on all these lights. They should be designed to be always on, and sold with the battery not already installed
Get something that can dim and can hold a few 18650 batteries and you'll be set. It should last all night. These aren't made for that purpose. You might want to look into some decent flashlights. There are reddit groups and forums dedicated to it.
when you know your good, don't have to beg people to like or subscribe even BEFORE you see the video. P.S. I did like and subscribe!!!! Thanks a lot, Joe N Tell!
Thanks for your info, I have to choose and thanks to you that help me on that, I will choose the one w the separate solar panel, again thanks for you video.
I'm looking for lights that come on automatically once darkness is detected. But also they have a timer, so if I only want them on for 1 hour, then I can set it. So it comes on automatically when darkness falls, but then goes off after the length of time you choose has been met.
I have 3 bionic spotlights and move them to different areas periodically. It's a real shame that with full AZ valley sun charged up , they remain on only 6 hours.
Can the batteries be replaced in the 60 led motion lights, as you no different companies make those lights and the ones that I have are sealed units so I cannot change the battery in the unit.
It's been a while. Some of the leads are soldered on to some of the batteries if I remember correctly. I remember seeing that some of these use an 18650 battery which is relatively common.
@@joentell I can tell you now I tried different motion lights and found that the 60 led you showed here is a real quality light. But it would have been nice if they would have made the batteries replaceable.
I'm not sure its designed to work that way. It's only designed to turn on when it senses motion. I would estimate that it would last about an hour at full brightness.
My neighbor did exactly what you said with several lights in her house. She left several panels outside with the lights inside. Thought it was dumb til everyone lost power for almost 24 hours due to a storm. I swear she'd walk room to room just to mess with us.
I was having minor issues trying to find some reviews of solar LED flood lights on RUclips with relevant testing when I eventually came across your video. I greatly appreciate this. The world will thank you more if you do more of these!
I was having trouble also, that's what led me to make this video. There are so many lights to choose from on Amazon and no standard way to compare them. A lot of the videos on RUclips are just spammy ads. I figured if I could help a few people out, that would be worth the effort.
Exactly! It's really annoying because the majority of the "comparison" videos out there aren't actually testing anything, they just compare manufacture/seller specs from one to another.
I just got a Sunforce and the sensor works when it wants to which rarely. It started out doing well now when I get out of my car, it won`t come on until I am on the porch at the front door and sometimes goes off when it does come on .
I'm pretty sure at least the first one with, 60 led has 5 modes. One is dim all night and bright when motion detected. One stays off but lights up with motion like a security sensor. The other three modes don't remember. I know because I intend to get that one but with a different brand name.
I got six of those 60 led motion lights on my house now so I can tell you that you can make them do what ever you like, I usually leave mine in the motion mode. Because I think you will get more life time out of the lights rather than let them run all night, but you can let them run all night if you like to.
I want one that stays on on HIGH all night without dimming or shutting off. I don’t want motion to set it on high either. Just constant on and on high.
Great presentation I'm looking solar lights that dusk to dawn not really as a motion but can be need it for big area on the side of my house ...any suggestions
You're probably going to need ones that are wired for power if it's a big area. Bright lights need a lot of power. I haven't tested any wired ones yet. Maybe in the future.
