Best and most simple quarter round tutorial I’ve seen to date…. Quick and to the point. Not a bunch of over-explaining and jibber jabber!! I appreciate this video!
I've always had the hardest time figuring out which direction to cut miter angles so that the pieces match up the way they should. You showed exactly how it's done, simple and to the point. Thank you!
I’ve been waiting almost a month for the quarter round to be installed in my living room. It’s painted and just sitting there. I’m so happy I found your video, bc I know I can definitely do it myself!
Shoe molding is the easiest molding to install. No need to pay a lot of money to have it done. Just make sure you have a nail gun to make it quick and easy.
I didn't even know such a tool existed for cutting the trim miters! I immediately went out this morning and bought one. It's going to make this job go so much faster, and will be much cleaner than user the miter saw! I even have the same nail gun, borrowed from my brother. :D
I had bought a similar cutting tool for my quarter round. It wasn't working worth a darn. After watching your video, I saw that I was putting the quarter round in the tool backwards. DUH....works much better now! Ha Thanks my friend!

Thank you for this video. It was very easy to understand for someone like myself whos interested in trying to do some DIY home improvements and doesn't know the first thing about most carpentry how-to's. So, thanks again!
I just ordered a ratcheting miter shear tool. Through my research it seems like the ratcheting version of the shears tend to not snap through the material, and have a more controlled slicing action. I’ll test it in a few days when they arrive
45° cuts make me crazy..51 and starting to do my own "easy" projects. Corner round I think I got now. Baseboards (obviously go 1st but..)are next. Thank you for the video! Wish me luck, I've got almost a whole house to trim both floor and ceiling! And with two toddlers under foot! 😂😂
Thanks for the terrific video--I didn't know about the miter shears. The fellow at Home Depot had no idea what I was talking about, and Menards was out. I bought a coping saw instead. Here goes!
Thanks for the vid brother. I haven't been on a trim job for a minute. I'm a stone mason/landscape construction contractor. I've done quarter round back in the day and this just gave me a good refresher and an update. We didn't do it this way back then. I dig it. I just finished a basement trim job today. Keep up the good work. If you ever need any tips as far as what I do, by all means, let me know.
44.5 degree cut create a perfect tight joint. 45 degree cut doesn't always give perfect joint and may need to caulking to seal some of the gap at the joint.
When he's saying a "45", it's understood that the angle is variable from that, especially since he's cutting as he's actively placing the quarter round 🤨
I cope my inside corners with a dremel fast and no caulk needed just a little c a glue on my outside corners it’s good practice for putting in non painted 3/4 round
Very good job, I learned a lot cutting those and matching them was very difficult but you made it turned out to be a peace of cake thanks for your help and keep up the good work.
what is the name of that cutting tool I have been using a miter saw this seems alot easier I have been having an issue with a wall that is on a Angle and I keep missing the mark .. Great Video !!!
My entire house is missing quarter round. This video makes me feel like it would not actually take as long as I thought to install. I was picturing measuring every piece, writing down the measurements, etc, but your method seems really doable.
Thanks for the video! If you leave 1/4" gag on your base molding, how does 1/4" round cover the gap? Second question- How do you attach 1/4' round when there are steel studs? I do not want to glue it, since the 1/4' round has to be removed in the future to replace the flooring. Thanks
That’s a good question I would glue them and still be able to pull them off later. Base is usually left up a 1/4” to allow for carpet. Or other original floor
This primarily works if you have at least one outside corner per cut. If they are inside corners you’d most likely have to have some sort of measuring tool
What a great tutorial Chris. What if I don't have that amazing power tool. What would you suggest? What type of hammer? What type of nail? I don't want to scratch the heck out of the floor to get the same angle as you do. Thanks so much.
I tried to do this in my bathroom last night. I have a miter saw one those plastic guides. I could not get my head around the inside and outside 45. One of those snips would work a lot better 🤨👍
Sooooo , silly question perhaps but … if I’m watching this video and have the exact cuts you did , do I need to reverse everything you did . I just tried to match up exactly and my cut was wrong
Is there a tool that makes cutting wood 1/4 round as simple as PVC? I read you are going to post a 'how to'' for wood 1/4 round; where should I go to view the tutorial for cutting this product? Very informative!!
Miter Snips. WHERE DO YOU GET THEM - Good question. I got them at Home Depot in the flooring section most of them are set up kinda the same. Also lowes has some as well. Miter Snips.
This was actually pretty helpful, I’ve worked on flooring before but we had a designated old man that would do the 1/4 round, baseboard, & t moldings. Never got around to learning it
great video man ..quick question .im trying to put some quarter round against floor base board but I have tile can I still nail them don't want to risk the nail cracking the tile and also what cutter are you using ?
Good video. It's a pretty good explanation for us, rookies 😆. Do you like using the PVC cause it's a wet area, and does it cost a lot more to use pvc .Thanks
if I buy the quarter round, install all the trimwork, and then use a caulk to fill in the staple hole or even any minor gap where the two ends meet. The colors never seem to match. The baseboard never matches the quarter round, the quarter round never matches the caulk. Any advice you can give me so I’m not installing all this and then having to have to repaint everything?
Great question most trim is only primed. Giving that it will almost always show a difference in the Spackling to fill nail holes or even caulking. I always run my finger down the caulk line and then wipe with wet clean rags to minimize the (squeezing out effect) of the caulking and run that rag right over the nail holes. That may make the colors less noticeable but use like a 23 gage nail gun and that leaves a very needle size nail hole that almost invisible to the naked eye. Hope this will help some. Thanks for watching and commenting
Unpainted caulking will collect dirt and discolor over time. I like to put a coat of paint on trim before I install and then a quick touch up coat after caulk and putty dries.
Thanks, this is the point I am at with my own kitchen. What kind of caulk do I use, and where do I apply it? I have an engineered hardwood floating floor and 1/4" thick toe kicks. I will be using pre-painted pine quarter-round. I don't have that tool, but I have a miter saw.
I use Alex Flex paintable white caulking fast dry. Usually caulk just the top side of your moldings and have a clean wet rag handy with a small bucket of water to rinse the rag out. Once you apply the caulking with the caulk gun take and wet your finger index usually just moist not dripping and run it across the area you did with the caulk gun in both directions cleaning your finger off often to keep it from making a wide caulk joint. Hope this help’s.. This is if you are painting the molding. If you are staining it or want it natural then really don’t need to caulk.
Depending on how big the gap is will depend on what you can do. You could add some trim stock at the bottom of the door casings if you have like 1x4 trim but if you have Basic door casing trim it has a curve to it you may be able to find using a caulking that matches close to the color floor could help take the Eyes away from it. But again it really depends on how big the gap is.

How well does this pvc accept paint? Will the paint stay put for years?
It’s done pretty good just use some paint primer all in one
So how is the end cut made by the stove or dishwasher? 45 or straight cut?
We end them on a straight cut that ends with the toe kick under the cabinets
Could you use some kind of glue to attach it instead of nails?
Liquid nail or regular caulking would do
great video man ..quick question .im trying to put some quarter round against floor base board but I have tile can I still nail them don't want to risk the nail cracking the tile and also what cutter are you using ?
Glue & some heavy books 📚 or full paint cans with a tshirt under to prevent scratches

Why use 18 ga vs 16 ga?
Good video. It's a pretty good explanation for us, rookies 😆. Do you like using the PVC cause it's a wet area, and does it cost a lot more to use pvc .Thanks
Not really much more at all and yes for wet location plus the ease of cutting so lower labor cost for sure

I have started using base shoe instead of QR. It isn’t as bulky and will cover a 1/4” gap.
Do the nails go into the cabinet or flooring?
We nail into the cabinet
Good rental property work ...
Lol
Where did buy that flooring and how much per box or per sq ft? Is it vinyl plank?
2.69 per sqft. On the floors the trim miter cutter is at lowes and home depot around 25

Acute or obtuse will determine if your angle is in front or behind a 45
Correct
