Bridget Jones’ Diary! My wonderful husband of 20+ years and I watched this on our first date. I loved the book so much, and related to Bridget in so many ways 😂
I love how you ruled off a space with the simple black line to the side of each page. That is such an easy way to create a sense of organization and make an entry look good without going nuts choosing the right stickers, washi, etc, getting distracted, and then not actually writing anything…or just scribbling down in a big mess everywhere, which can be fine, but if it’s something like deep thoughts/meaningful things, I want it to look nice. I will definitely incorporate that! I tend to have issues with margins and white space, and I like things to look symmetrical. That straight line down the page just does so much with so little (as well as the horizontal between entries. Excellent idea! Thank you!!!) I liked the quotes and passages you wrote down. They are thought provoking and calming at the same time. My Dad (in dealing with me calling being anxious about ‘failing schoooooooool!!!!!’ when I was doing well, just freaking myself out) told me once a very helpful thing to do, because “I worry, I catastrophize, therefore, I am.” He said when worrying starts, ask yourself “can I do anything about this?” (For example: worrying about if the airplane will fall out of the sky with me in it vs. worrying about getting a good grade on an exam.) So, for the first, I can’t do anything about the airplane, I’m just sitting there, if it happens, it happens. If you have no means of controlling the outcome (like you can’t control the weather, other people’s actions/emotions, etc) then is worrying about it helping you? Or is it wasting your time? It’s wasting your time and making you miserable. Distract yourself, focus on what you can control on. For the second, the grade on the exam is very much under your control (not completely, I mean, there’s always that question out of left field that you swear was never talked about…) so, if you CAN have an impact on something, or have control over something and you’re stuck on the Worry Hamster Wheel, sit down, grab a pen and paper, put a dividing line down the middle, and write out an action plan/to do list about how you can do well on the exam, everything you can think of on one side of the line, and on the other, write everything that hinders doing well (going to the party the night before the test, sitting and worrying about the test instead of studying for it, etc.) Oftentimes, just telling myself, “do you have any control over this? Or are you making yourself miserable for the fun of it?” can help to snap me out of it. Along with a nice deep breath. Diaphragmatic breathing (an amazing way that we can control our nervous system’s sympathetic and parasympathetic reactions) can be easily learned (probably 1000 videos on how to do it) and it can be done in public without anyone knowing that you’re doing it. (P.S. Fight and flight have been added to in the literature in recent years and now includes: Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn. These have more to do with explaining how people react to triggering/frightening situations and a little less with the nervous system…but it is helpful to look at Freeze and Fawn to get a wider understanding of human behavior…which I enjoy studying myself.) Good luck with coping with the OCD and it sounds like you’re seeking out help and awareness of it and trying to do things that help with it. It is treatable and manageable, but definitely no fun! My best wishes to you, and may I also commend you for being open about that. Mental health is equally as important (if not more so…because physical health suffers when mental health suffers) as physical health and should NOT be stigmatized. You aren’t “crazy” or “weird.” OCD is a relatively common disorder. Depression and anxiety disorders are extremely common. We don’t look down on someone or think less of someone for taking their diabetes medicine every day and restricting their carbs…so why should we look down on someone who takes medicine and does some lifestyle alterations for depression or anxiety? So, thank you for sharing that. (This completes my Ted Talk 😅)
Bridget Jones' Diary. That Felicity Jones and JJ feild version of Northanger Abbey, and that latest version of Emma, the best jane austen movie adaptation of anything imo.
@@mollymollie6048 WOW! There are so many things about this comment that I love - ironically, I may end up commonplacing some of it 🤣 Firstly, I am so glad you were able to gain inspiration from the layout of my commonplace notebook, but I can't take credit for it. I watched several commonplacing videos before setting up my own, so it has been greatly inspired by Megan Rhiannon and Jazzlypuff 😍One of the things you said that really resonated with me was, "are you making yourself miserable for the fun of it?". I think worrying has become such a habit of mine, that it's become a comfort 😅 I also really love the thought process your Dad suggested, "can I do anything about this?" - definitely a great reminder to relinquish the need for control in areas where control or certainty is impossible. Thank you so much for your continued support, it really means a lot 🥺💞💞
Hi, I have realised you resonate with me so much because my daughter is so like you. She’s 20, I get the feeling though you are further along your journey to, I don’t want to say healing but coping sounds dismal, so just further along your journey than she is. You can’t know how much hope you give me, I know the videos are just a snapshot and knowing ocd your life is probably often very different, but you inspire me to keep fighting along side her. So from one mum with a daughter living with ocd to another daughter, you should be so proud of all that you are accomplishing, the lives you are touching and bring hope into those lives can’t be measured, thank you isn’t enough but it’s all I have thank you.
This comment means the world to me, and quite honestly has me choked up 🥺💞 I was hesitant to post this video, but knowing it was able to help someone, I am so glad I did. The road to OCD recovery isn't linear, but it's definitely possible! And if there is one thing I can say to both you and your daughter, it's to keep going 💓 Intrusive thoughts, like any other thoughts, are fleeting. I know how hard it is to not delve into the "what ifs...", but intrusive thoughts lose all of their power when you no longer assign value to them. Remind you daughter that these thoughts are Ego dystonic, and do not indicate the type of person she is (which I'm sure is a lovely type 😊). It is very clear you are doing a great job in aiding in your daughter's recovery, so you too should be proud! Good luck to you both, I am rooting for you! 💪
i also experience OCD and i am so appreciative of you sharing a bit about how you use commonplacing to keep track of quotes/ideas/learnings to support yourself through the experience! i had to pause to write some of these things down in my own commonplace notebook lol 📝

Yay! That makes me so happy 😊I am so glad you found this video helpful 💕
Your commonplacing is so neat and tidy! Mine is a mess LOL but that is my style.
Haha 😆 if it’s functional, it’s serving its purpose! I’d love to see a video on yours 🥰
@lillabjornco I plan to do an end of year flip through. I'm taking this week off for health issues

Glad you enjoyed! 🥰
Hi Lillabjörn! If we're talking movies, then I do like the ones you mentioned, but if we're talking TV shows I like New Girl, Friends and The Office!
Those are great picks! Thanks for sharing haha 🤣💝
Oooo I LOVE the Office 🎉
The office and Gilmore Girls are my on repeat in the background shows

Hej, jag tänkte bara fråga om du är från Sverige? Din kanals namn är väldigt gulligt.
I wish! I'm from Canada, but my Mom is Swedish, so I grew up with a lot of Swedish culture 🥰 Tack så mycket💙💛
