Love this muji planner. I got it again this year in A6 size and my partner has it in A5 and I already know I will get it next year

i've been doing this for the past year and it did save my brain honestly. We genuinely get flooded with so much information, it's nice to be able to consolidate it and easily what's really important. Plus if I save important information in my camera roll it will never be found again 🤣 it's like a graveyard of important notes

I love my Kakuno! It’s a tad scratchy but frankly, I like it. I think it’s pretty ideal for a beginner because of the price point and also because of the flat grips for your fingers. If you also like the flat parts, you might want to check out Lamy Safari because that feature is VERY prominent. The Safari is made of the same material as Legos, so fairly indestructible, but the nib will be slightly broader than a Japanese pen. Congrats on your new pen!

I had just talked myself out of buying this 😢 Lol I would have loved to learn a bit more about the converters for this pen. I was reading a bit on reddit about and that's mainly why I've not ourchased this pen yet. I don't want to buy cartridges. Anyway, thanks for the video :)

Oh I love the Family Series! The Dad one is so cute with the mustache and tie. So many people, even with high end pens, still love their Kakunos. I might get one, but how forced is the tripod grip?? I’m not a fan of those, but those Kakunos are so inexpensive. Also, the nibs from the Prera, Metropolitan, and Explorer can switch with the Kakuno nibs (my Prera came with a 1.0 CI nib, Kakuno is only EF, F and M, so the nibs are easy to get and switch.) The Kakuno will also fit the CON-40 and CON-70 converter which is really nice. I’m glad to hear the grip wasn’t too annoying. You got a good deal on them…since everyone is out for the new colors (which are a little too pastel for me) that are $16, you’ll see a lot of variance in price, so definitely shop around cause you can get them easily for $10-$12, they come in tons of colors and all the parts are interchangeable if you want to mix and match (I’ve seen people do that with Jinhao 82s…they’re even selling them as mixed finials, bodies, etc…it’s fun.)

I prefer heavier pens but this would be great for on the go usage of a fountain pen

This is actually how I use my commonplace book, but I’ve noticed that I can’t find the important things amidst all the random stuff! While I’m reluctant to add another notebook to my system.. this seems like it would be super helpful 👀 thanks for sharing!

They paper is aweful!!! In all planners. The 52gsm new paper is so bad. The old tomoe paper handles a lot of punishment! I watercolored and inked it to death. Now you can't even write with a fountain pen and the letters bleed

Amazing. I still do this and oftentimes ponder how much MORE I used to do this before my phone was attached to my hand. Truly, I’ve had some separate books on my nightstand since last year and I made it a goal this one to just LIVE IN THEM!!🌧️🎧 so helpful.

I love the Muji planners!! As you said, the font and printing is so crisp, minimal, and clean. I used the B6 horizontal all year in both 2023 and 2024. I'm a B6 and horizontal weekly girly and it's hard to find an affordable planner that fits both criteria (and has good paper!), so the Muji planners are so great for that. I would recommend these planners to anyone just starting out with planning (or even memory-keeping) because they're so simple, affordable and good quality. I don't live near any Muji stores, but even with the flat $10 CAD shipping it's very affordable (I would typically buy a few small stationery things alongside the planner as well, to kind of justify the shipping). The downside is that Muji doesn't announce when the dated planners are releasing for the year (as far as I can tell, anyway), so the last couple years I had to check their website every few days starting in October to make sure I didn't miss out. As another commenter mentioned, these planners tend to sell our fast online and then they get scalped on eBay, Etsy and other websites. However, Muji typically has undated planners in A5, A6, and B6 available throughout the year, so you can really start one of these planners anytime! I can't remember if they're usually available in all layouts undated, but I remember seeing the horizontal weekly and monthly planners available in undated. The only reason I'm not using a Muji planner again in 2025 is that I realized I really missed having daily logs. In 2024 I tried doing these and in a separate book combined with the Muji planner but it just wasn't the same. So in 2025 I'm going to use either a B6 Sterling Ink horizontal common planner or Papertessdesigns B6 yearly notebook, as both have a ton of blank pages for daily logs alongside the planning portion (yes, I haven't fully decided lol, I'm trying both out rn!). But both of these B6 horizontal planners are more than 4x the cost of a Muji planner. At the end of the day, if the Muji planners had more blank pages in the back I would go back to them in a heartbeat (yes I know they would get chunky but I don't care!!).

Can I ask a question please? Have you experienced any problems with the paper in a Wonderland222 2025? This is supposed to be the Tomoegawa version of Tomoe River paper but in my planner it isn't showing any of the characteristics of that paper. No sheening or shading and there's definitely some feathering with heavier lines. I'm just trying to find someone who is having the same problems because it's driving me crazy.

I got one from the "bad batch", and I am truly sad about this. The thing is, I waited until January 1 to really open the package and test it out. I use fountain pens and the bleed-through is unacceptable, especially given the price.

I would like to say that Iroful (75 gsm) is much thicker than TRP (52 gsm) so it's not super surprising that it does better with bleedthrough and ghosting :)

I really wonder if I should send my 5 year Hobonichi back. I decided to keep it at first because I wasn’t going to use fountain pens at all, (I planned to use pigma micron and even the people who had really bad paper said microns worked fine for them) but now that I started it even my pigma micron is bleeding through! It’s really not THAT bad, but dang it’s FIVE years and I don’t think that not bleeding is much to ask from TRP

I've heard of this paper and there is also loose sheets for a very good price. It's on my wishlist but I have to use up my Kyukuo Campus papers first. 😁 Learning to use my Kinbor Weekly and it's very fun but I really need practicing the decorations with the stickers and washi tapes. I got my Phomemo P2S this afternoon so there's a lot to learn with that too. I forgot to eat for a while. Can't imagine why? 😊 Today's Swedish lesson: "Snön ligger vit på taken, endast tomten är vaken." 💙💛🇸🇪

3:50 The ink does look more vibrant on the Iroful paper. I might give it a try, but for now I haven't had the same ink problems with newest Hobonichi Techos or Sanzen paper as others have. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the shoutout and I’m glad you loved it!!!! Not sure where you got yours (and I think you’re paying Canadian/European so at least Canadian is always higher for whatever reason) but currently on Amazon US, Iroful notebooks and loose leaf (grid, plain, lined and dotted) is running from $10-13 US. On JetPens it’s a few dollars higher US, and I’m not sure if they have as much variety. I didn’t try a Sharpie on it! Wow!!!!!!! I can’t believe it didn’t bleed through, that’s amazing. It’s a great paper to make ink swatches with also, although I’ve noticed compared to Rhodia and TRP, the ink color runs a bit cooler (Midori is the warmest, Rhodia doesn’t show as much of the ink crazy in some inks and well-behaving TRP probably shows the shading/chromoshading, etc best of the swatches…but you have a total mess on the back of the page, and very wrinkly paper.) I think people who like that Rhodia doesn’t bleed a ghost as much, and color pops well…but feels too slick for them will like the Iroful which gives a little more feedback without drag. Your inks did just absolutely pop off of the paper!!! The colors were so rich and interesting like you said, and you weren’t using particularly “dramatic inks” (i.e., Emeraud de Chevour or similar.) I’m so glad you gave it a try and that you’re liking it! I thought you might! For those on a tight budget, I have seen, but not tried, the Composition Books from Dollar Tree (US)…caveat: Check the back of the notebook for “Made in Japan” or “Made in Vietnam” and apparently the paper is really good for fountain pens!! I believe Dollarama (is that the Canadian one?) has some similar notebooks, and again, look for “Made in Japan” or “Made in Vietnam” for the good stuff. (And if there’s a recycled version, don’t use that…for some reason, recycled paper, unfortunately, is awful with fountain pens and most wet inks.) Now! No one tell anyone else about this before they jack the prices up…except maybe your favorite independent planner maker who may also be concerned about the quality control with TRP nowadays 😅 (Edited cause fumble fingers hit return in the middle of the comment.)

Hi! Have you heard from Tess about the bleedthrough? I am experiencing the same thing on my B6 planner. I have Aura Estelle's B6 planner but have not tested it yet. I might have to jump ship because the bleedthrough is just killing me.

I just opened up a brand new Dingbat A6. Love Dingbats!! Biggest challenge for me is deciding what to write in it, I overthink it and try to be too detailed and perfect with entries. I’m going to try and be more willy nilly with writing random thoughts down.

Does the Hobonochi clear cover fit on the Kinbor?

I’m here because I just started using my 2025 Hobonichi Cousin planner and noticed considerable bleed through compared to my 2024 Cousin. I use only fountain pens, and in this case the same fountain pen as last year with Pilot Iroshizuku blue ink (Asa Gao). I use these expensive Hobonichi planners with Tomoe River paper because I like to write with a fountain pen. If the paper quality is now shot the only way to get the manufacturer’s attention is to return the planner which I will be doing when the problem is confirmed. If they switched from 52gsm to 47gsm that will do it for me as I thought 52gsm was already too light compared to the ~80gsm I used to use. This will push a lot of people to other solutions including digital. Congrats on your very clear video, I hope they watch it carefully at Sanzen. No doubt someone there is penny-wise and pound-foolish, absolutely incredible this made it past their quality control.

The highlighters! I remember being a student and legit needing like 10 different colours for my note taking and I needed to keep buying new ones because I used them up so fast 😭😭 So glad to be in adult world where I need 3 different colours (one per family member) and I buy new ones every couple of years!

I just ordered the PaperTess b6 today. I also have a 2025 Aura Estelle and Common Planner and with both of those the TRP is just not performing well at all. Nearly everything has some bleed through.
