  • In this video we install a Front Manual Disc Brakes Kit from LEED Brakes on the 1965 Comet. These kits come with everything required to swap your front Drum Bakes to Disc Brakes. The days of trying to piece together a disc brake swap are over... Just not worth the amount of time looking for/ driving around for used parts.
    If you're still running drum brakes, do yourself a favor and swap to front disc brakes... it makes you're drive much more enjoyable!

    Glad to see you know how to pack bearings the old way. The new way doesn't get the grease throughout the bearing like the old way. Never lost bearings by doing it the proven way.

    By the way, is that ol' girl going on Power Tour in a month?

    I don't like hammering the dust cap. I use a large screwdriver and a hammer, set the screwdriver on the flange, and gently tap all the way around while turning the disc. It takes a little longer but you can feel and hear when the cap is fully seated.

I recently purchased my first project, a 1955 international r-100 and I had no clue what I was getting into, lots of learning still left to do. Mikey, where ya been ? Thought you fell off the earth 🤣🤣
    You must be busy up north eh?
    Good to see you back. Let us know how the proporting valve set up goes, I got one of those with my CRP kit for the 65 but didn't get the group of different metering valves. But mine does have the dial valve like yours, so any onsite would be a big help.

      Thanks for tuning back in though, hope all is well!
      Yours sounds like a proportioning valve, one inlet and an outlet. Basically a bias for the rear brakes (you will have a separate distribution block). This one I have is a distribution block and proportioning valve built into one. Should act no different than yours really (job is the same).

    Ok, binge watched and got all caught up! I did have a question on the power steering vs non power steering gear box though. As I recall they had a different gear ratio to make the non power a bit easier to handle. Next, if recall correctly, there should be a floor shift removable panel in the trans tunnel under the carpet. That would help to make the decision on the correct tail shaft for shifter location. But, you've probably already figured that out. lol. Can't wait for the next video!

    I have one of those bearing packers like you showed, but I do the bearings by hand. Wait until you get my age (62) and forget something and have to get back up. An old coats tire machine, brought back some memories, but still beats my harbor freight manual machine.

    • @Theoldcarchannel.
      @Theoldcarchannel.  3 года назад

      Just something about packing the bearings by hand... I've always seen them on the shelves at stores, but have always reverted back to the old school way of things.
      I can only hope we'll still be working on these old beast when I turn 62... unfortunately with the way things are going.... I don't see it happening.
      Yeah, the old cot machine works great! Picked it up cheap, cleaned it up and works like a charm, minus the couple of smacks it's given me!

    • @oneoldmansgarage7880
      @oneoldmansgarage7880 3 года назад +1

      @@Theoldcarchannel. I realize that we all like working on and restoring these old cars, but when I was your age I never thought I would still be working on petroleum fueled vehicles. The fact that we put men on the moon in 1969 but still depend on crude oil just blows my mind. I truly hope by the time you get my age the oil companies have lost their hold on the world. It's just my opinion but I believe hydrogen by electrolysis is the best bet for our future. The technology exists but is being withheld. I would really like to work on hydrogen powered vehicles before I have to give it up. As for getting my age and not turning wrenches, I just finished pulling a Northstar out of the top of my 2005 Cadillac Deville to reseal all the oil leaks. Don't give up hope on doing this stuff when you get older, it hurts a lot more than it used to and takes much longer, but I'm still getting it done!

      I've used LEED in the past and have had zero issues. In the end really Leed, CSRP, and SSBC all use the same style/ design caliper (Kelsey Hase 4 piston).
