    Just making the cyclic switching and constant elevation options toggleable through a keybind and/or the multi-function menu would make them much, much more usable. Being able to switch to manual mode to pick a target out of clutter or do a quick sweep at a nonstandard elevation before going back to automatic can be insanely valuable in certain situations, but as it is you need to click through multiple full screen menus to do that - plus it's basically a complete non-starter if you're in VR with a HOTAS.

    • @dnfluffles772

      What would be pretty cool is to have section in options where we can choose which different radar mods to have cyclic switching. So my "radar cursor" would automatically activate, so for TWS I would I click "cyclic switch for TWS mode" to "Off" so I could select targets myself just when I use TWS.

    I literally just learned the correct way to pronounce "cyclic" in this context and it's too late to re-record. I blame my physics teacher for this one since that's how he pronounced it and I assumed it was correct

    I agree with you that they should add a horizon line (and also a "snap to sight" button) for manual antenna elevation but I think manual antenna elevation already offers a massive advantage and puts you at a huge disadvantage for not using it.
    I think the reason you find it anoying to use is because your keybinds for it are not easily accessible which they need to be for this to actualy benefit you. I use Ctrl as my combo/modication key and I use Ctrl + W/A/S/D for radar pitch/yaw controll.
    With these controlls I find the radar controllability to be almost on par with ACM HMD which you yourself said is a huge advantage in your F-4S video.

    • @jaek_898
      @jaek_898  8 месяцев назад +8

      I used to have the radar keys on ctrl+WASD/QE when I used to use the manual controls. There are definitely cases where it works perfectly like you said. But by its nature it will never be as accurate for quickly going to the exact spot of sky you want to scan as mouse input will, and my main issue is that it's ground stabilized, so there were a lot of situations where even if I knew where my target was and I had the scan over him I still had to "hunt" because of how the UI handles the radar symbology at weird angles. It just doesn't feel like a complete feature and I don't find using the constant elevation option to be a disadvantage so I went back. Especially with the state of BVR right now.

    I feel like I already have way too much information overload when I'm playing top-tier battles, so adding manual radar controls on top of that is just too much of a hassle. I have nothing with TWS yet, and I'm honestly not that great with SARHs to begin with, only having used them to good effect in my F-16A ADF. Basic controls seem adequate for the AIM-7M.

    I personally only use manual because at least back in the day, I found that using the automatic mode would never allow you to lock a target that is further away, if there were targets infront of you (Back before the AI aircraft were delayed, that meant to me, that you could not lock onto enemy players because the cursor would only jump between the AI planes and not to the actual players behind them.)

    nice thing to do with the first tip of controlling the radar lock manually is
    if you have a controller or one that you arent using plug it in and configure one of joysticks to play that part
    taking if you are already using the arrows for something else
    orrr
    if you are using that controller you can also use the D-pad for that and still have both joysticks free to maneuver the aircraft

    Best war thunder jets channel as always. Personally, I find malual antenna elevation more convenient than moving nose up and down. Yes it's terrible implemeted in the game but it's the only way to know that's going on around without excessive maneuvering.

  • @BOSs-1313
    @BOSs-1313 8 месяцев назад +2

    It would be nice if the radar elevation would be in relation yo the nose of the aircraft and not the horizon. So for example you lower your radar so that it scans from 0° elevation to -20° in relation to your nose, so as you move around the radar still follows. Idk if its realistic but it would make that option much more useful

    i use manuel radar control all the time in mig29 if i wanna bvr it comes handy and if i happen to be in mid map chaos i can just change it to hmd so i dont need to worry about if the cursor is on the target or not

  • @_ace_defective_
    @_ace_defective_ 8 месяцев назад

    I personally use the manual cursor controls for my radar but I leave constant elevation on. Just being able to precisely select what target I want to track is super useful especially with how hectic air RB is right now, having 16v16. In pretty much all situations, if i need a quick lock, there is ACM mode or the HMD.
    It's really just an argument of simplicity and speed vs accuracy. I think most players are better served with cyclic though (or just ignoring them and using ACM/HMD lol)

  • @SWANNwillSUFFICE

    I don’t get how you can dislike antenna elevation, like if you’re flying on the deck and want to lock someone above you you can just elevate your antenna and not pitch up and instantly become a target. Like thats a big part of top tier gameplay.

    • @jaek_898
      @jaek_898  8 месяцев назад +3

      Because I cant have it stay fixed relative to my nose, and it takes time to figure out where the antenna is and to adjust it to where I need it to be. Being able to tilt it up and down is nice but having it stuck to the horizon is not.
      And like I talked about, the symbology for it is really bare bones. Theres a reason most people dont use it.

    • @perennialE
      @perennialE 8 месяцев назад +4

      Manual radar controls like cursor and elevation are better specifically if you are at the start of the game and like to partake in BVR. However in the furball of Air RB, you simply dont have the time to slowly slew your radar around opposed to just pointing your plane at the enemy.

    • @williewilson2250
      @williewilson2250 8 месяцев назад

      At that point just use the vertical radar boresight for acm mode, it's like 10x40° on most aircraft that have it and the f14 has two with the same degree coverage except the second one is literally like a direct 90° vertical scan lmao
