This song is a stunner! Her rendition matches that of Linda’s,and she is my all time favorite! I give Karla the nod, SHE is a writer, with a Blessed Voice!

What else? She wrote it and had it on her own album before Linda sang it.

Once in a while there will be a song that resonates far beyond the forgettable pop trash that the industry pushes at us. Someone to lay down beside me is one of those Gems !! Beautiful and haunting, touching on human need in a often loveless world. Thanks Karla.

Dear Clark, Thank you for noticing my comment, and responding. Forty plus years of writing things and wondering if anyone will notice. I hope I can write one song as good as this one. I have some songs on you tube, you might like them. Check out, Girls weren't design to pump iron. I'm not a good singer, but can't give up.

j flo Dear j flo, nice to know my words have not gone to waste. I wish I could write some songs with Karla. And I would definitely love to lay down beside her.
      Thanks, Yes, keep on rocking!!!

Gary Marshall Ellis I found your words so very true. You have the sensitivity and heart to write a beautiful song. If you already have done that, as I suspect, get it out there. Good luck I will be looking for it.

      j flo
Dear j flo, thank you. I have not been very lucky in love. Woman have always been difficult to get. No one nite stands, or happy ever after for me. The marriages, and relationships I've been in have been bad. Serial cheater, Crazy addict, and a girlfriend I loved very much, Dumped me on Christmas Eve 2012, for some internet Romeo. { See Dating Suck's! On hayloft dreamer . com. Type as one word. } Have not found a new girl friend yet. I have forty years of note books and no out let for them.
There are fourteen songs on U. tube. Thirteen of them I wrote, More videos planed.
I don't claim to be a good singer, I just won't give up. That's why this song means so much. There's always hope. Luv, Gary.

I had the thrill of hearing Karla Bonoff in concert in Marin, CA in the nineties. Stunning. I agree. I'm so glad her voice retains its crystalline depth. This song aches with the sense of emptiness of the seventies.

I'd like to know if there's a songwriter that is more vulnerable and honest than Karla Bonoff. She never had to strain herself vocally to achieve the success she's had, so 40 years later, she still sounds as precious as her first albums. This is how a singer-songwriter should carry themselves. I think her and fellow Asylum label mate Andrew Gold are comparable.

Nothing against Kenny Edwards, but this song needs Waddy, as it was recorded originally. His guitar gave it another entire dimension...still, Karla Bonoff remains among the best that ever wrote a song. And this is one of her best.
