These are very entertaining stories. How fun it is to this 78 YO man to curl up cozy in a warm bed and listen to them. I feel like a kid again. Who needs anything more?
I listened when I was a child during camping trips with my parents. Im 50 now, I was eight in 1978. Now I fall asleep listening to these great stories every night. Best radio drama/shows ever made.
I’m a Japanese college student studying English. Several years ago my professor recommended listening to this show to me. At first I wasn’t used to listening to this kind of English but now I can enjoy it! Listening to this is a really good way to study English!
I was given a brand new transistor radio by my parents, about 9”x 5”, for my eighth birthday. There was no way to use headphones back then - 1958. We lived just west of the Mississippi and only got a couple of stations. I used to have to share a bedroom with four other siblings (and there were another three in another bedroom.) I used to put it under my pillow at night and listen to a show called: “Stairway to the stars”. Stories and music programs. They were wonderful, and I loved falling to sleep to them! Amazing, the seemingly small things we remember from our childhood that we really enjoyed and stayed with us. Now at 71 I find them very comforting, and I am so pleased to have found these since I never heard them before! Thank you to whoever our benefactor is!
Yes I've heard this broadcast once before. I listened again because the audio was so crisp. Good job recording. Thanks for the attention to that aspect. .
In another episode regarding poor sound quality, Chilly stated this and about 100 other episodes were recorded by Himan Brown and that this is likely how the others would have sounded if they had been digitally recorded.
I heard this when it was first broadcast in 1979. (same day as the total solar eclipse!) I was a high school junior and it spooked me a bit. I had forgotten that Mr. Brown hosted this one.
The best episode of the best series ever! The audio quality is superb. I initially heard this story hosted by the great E.G. Marshall. Unfortunately the audio quality wasn't the greatest. It's interesting hearing Himan Brown's take as host. Himan brown also had a cameo role in this tale. If this story were a motion picture, I'm sure there would be a sequel. ChillySunshine, thanks for posting this classic horror tale.
I agree with you, this was the most memorable of them all. As a boy I would listen to my fancy transistor radio stuffed in the pillow, 10:07 p.m. the stories would start. Now, decades later I Google it and here it is. What a good basis for a Doctor Strange movie, this would be.
Thank you once again for a great story it's just a shame the people that actually performed in the stories never really got the right recognition that they deserve. They at least deserve that, and thank you to the current individuals that are uploading these stories that I remember when I was a kid. Sleep well everyone..................
Tony Roberts starred in a half dozen Woody Allen movies. All of these actors were celebrated professionals in their fields at that halcyon time. Many would go on to larger careers. Morgan Fairchild appears in many of these.
I wish the other channels that post these old shows had a brief description of the plot. Not sure I’d have listened to this without the it. Dead scary episode.
Congratulations CBS; you just scared the shit out of me and I am now watching a comedy to calm down. I will never listen to this one when the sun goes down again. I'm not even sure if I want to listen to it alone.
In some ways I prefer the recordings off the air that have that more distant, low-fi sound. Somehow adds another layer---a kind of patina---of spookiness. Something like reading a creepy story in an old book in which the pages are yellowed with age and a bit musty...I guess what I'm talking about is like listening to "antique sound".
This was a re-broadcast that was done in the early 2000s. Original producer Hyman Brown is the host instead of E.G. Marshall- Marshall had passed by the time of the rebroadcasts- of which more episodes were chosen.....I think they revisited select episodes on NPR for a short period. They ALL sounded this good way back when... provided your radio reception was decent. I usesd to listen to the originals on WCAU-1210 AM in Philly. Great memories !! This one is my fave- it scared my 6 year old self back then & I was hooked. The episode is kinda jokey now....but as a 6 year old ? Yikes !! ruclips.net/video/2dCbTpwdtEo/видео.htmlsi=JAGTMW4MN-_112FU 🚬😎👍
If any1 wants 2 hear another good episode which involves a clock, check out an episode called TIME AND TIME AGAIN. It's a story with an altogether different plot, & clock, but just as good as this episode. When u finish with this story, check out TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I'm pretty sure that any listener WON'T be disappointed. Ciao.😎
hello guys where's E,G Marshall he's the best narrator ever. can anyone of you tell me what's happened? by the way I love this show so much every single night I've been listening to improve my English and traveling with the best podcast ever
Some of the original shows were re-broadcast in the early 2000s on some CBS Radio outlets. E.G. Marshall had died before the re-broadcasts & original creator Himan Brown hosted these shows instead. Great sound quality, huh? Just like they originally sounded !! 😎
Oh here's another thing, I do a lot of artwork with acrylics,, that picture of that old house with the grandfather clock and steps I'm going to put that on a canvas, in 3D there's thousands of different kind of horror painting. I've already started to sketch SEE YOU IN THE NEXT .................................HORROR STORY................
You should post a link to your 3D rendering of this when it's finished. I'm fascinated with this type of work and specifically a 3D image on what is essentially a 2D medium? Absolutely incredible and this image in particular, with the clock and steps would be an amazing feat, indeed!
It's time for yo mama to kick some demon butt!!! Go on mama I'm right behind u...... well about 12 ft and no I'm not ssssscared!!! I absolutely love these, Chillin if ur willin I'm gonna give ya top billin !!!
The medium/psychic character is really laying it on thick, almost like she thinks this is a comedy. It's almost annoying to the ears. No subtlety or finesse, it's like a garlic sandwich.
These are very entertaining stories. How fun it is to this 78 YO man to curl up cozy in a warm bed and listen to them. I feel like a kid again. Who needs anything more?
Hey Richard! This 59 y/o lady feels the same way! I listen every single night! I'm glad to hear you enjoy them so much as well!!
Yup, that's me too!
I listened when I was a child during camping trips with my parents. Im 50 now, I was eight in 1978. Now I fall asleep listening to these great stories every night. Best radio drama/shows ever made.
@@moxievintage1390 Thanks! Moxie, from 79 y/o, I'm on it.
This 52 Y/O New Yawker Is In Bed Listening As Well... Sad Because I Know I'll Fall Asleep Well Before The Ending... Love These Shows

I used to listen to RMT EVERY NIGHT at 11 pm on WJR in Detroit. What memories!!! Thanks for posting!!!
Fantastic story, acting, and narrator.
Be careful what you wish for.. or purchase.
It could all end in......
By far the cleanest audio I’ve heard yet. Well done!

@@UncleEarl97 This is from a 1998 rebroadcast. So no E.G. Marshall but great sound.

The picture for this story, is so cool!
Yes, I agree!
Hands down the Best Audio 👌 in OTR...
Thank you 😊 Chilly Sunshine 🙏 Awesome Episode...
Thanks once again for taking the trouble to put these up...they help me sleep.
Really enjoyed this one, thanks 🎉
The sound quality of this is really impressive!
The best I’ve ever heard from the mystery theater
This one a favorite enjoying listening every time 😎
Great story. And kudos to Chilly for the visual art at the very end of the recording!! Literally gave me chills.
This is what I listen to when I'm sewing, don't really like the TV and all their ads they throw at you during the holidays
I listen when my husband & I running errands or going out of town.
The best episode of the best series ever!

James Hall ~ You're Welcome............Yes this was a good one, all Hell really did break loose in the end.
ChillySunshine yes, all hell has broken loose in 2020. I wonder who opened the gate.

Very enjoyable. Thank you for the upload.
Creepy and very scary indeed. Great quality.
This is a good one, don't let the title fool you.
Thankyou for yet another great story, I proper enjoyed this one.

the audio quality had been amazingly clear... no background static.. crystal clear.. love it
Wow yea, one of the best recordings on this series. I wish they were all this good.
I like the quality of the sound also

One of the better episodes. 8.9 out of 10.
Very good one, the audio is amazing!
I restore old wooden radios and let me tell you about the demons that come out of them.
A good, spooky story for Saturday night....
This is my favorite 🤘

Great fun! Thank you. BTW I think I'll avoid grandfather clocks.
Bravo!
Most interesting Story. ..

Some of the voice-acting on these is soooo bad.

P.U. That stuck! What a horrible production. Was not a bit entertained sorry 1970s stories on the radio. that kind of sucked , expected more.
Party pooper!
Proof read. Auto correct is notorious for making your good spelling erroneous.
The only thing horrible here is Alaska Jack. He probably texted from his outhouse. That would explain the stink
