Beautiful game. I have fond memories of playing this one on my PS1 back in the day. The art still holds up despite the very low poly. Testament to how talented the Squaresoft artists are.
+Ragitsu An enhanced edition is just an upscale of resolution and possibly tweaks to the gameplay to make it feel more modern. A remake is just as the word entails. The game is built from the ground up. I.E: Final Fantasy 7.
+Pg TrAxX An enhanced version of PE1 I can be happy with. But PE 2 really needs to be remade, not just enhanced. Still loved it, was just held back WAAAAYYY too much by the PS1 capabilities unlike the first game in the series.
Parasite Eve was the more innovative title. However, Parasite Eve 2 is more fun to play plus explore. It doesn't really do anything new per sé...but it makes the most of what it has.

i just beat this game a few days on epsxe 1.9 for old times sake, and i think this game have the best grapics of the psx era, squaresoft (not square-enix) was the best company in the gaming industry of the 90s, they did FF7, 8, 9, PE, PE2, and Crono Cross in what, 5 years? they were doing alot of excelent games and fast, to this day i still dont know wtf happened when the new era came in...
It's amazing how much this game was an improvement from the original PE, better combat system, better graphics, better story, better magic system, better everything. Usually game series got backward after the first game but not PE2.
+Sammy I think the first game was a teeny bit more noteworthy in the setting (in how it melded typical Final Fantasy RPG elements with the modern day). Other than that, Parasite Eve 2 feels like a tighter game in how it handles.
+Sammy Nah, PE1 had a better story and far more settings/locales than PE2- I also think the bosses were better in PE1, but PE2 did have better graphics and gameplay, but I wished it had the multiple locations that PE1 had to make it feel more fresh. Dryfield and the underground facility sort of outstayed it's welcome in my opinion. It also dropped the weapon varieties PE1 had.

RE1 didn't suffer from what PE2 did in my opinion and you spent most of your time in a mansion. I still prefer PE2 gameplay over PE1 though.

I've never seen a game with the same dense atmosphere again after PE II. Especially the beginning and the CG quality is top notch even for today's standards.
all these games from that era had similarities. Grandia, Final fantasy, resident evil, parasite eve, etc.. There is a reason they were all so awesome. changing the formula is why any newer games in those franchises sucked ass. lol

The tower level reminds me of Die Hard, with the helicopter exploding. One person fighting an entire building full of bad guys. And the people outside watching.

Akropolis Tower part used to scared me so much when I first played this as a kid. They nailed the atmosphere of dreadfulness and an uncertainty so much. Took me years to over that fear and finally get pass it. What a game in certain areas it was better than Resident Evil 2.

Holy shit, I remember playing this game 20 years ago as a kid, I never made it past the cafeteria part, scared the shit out of me, finally I found this game on youtube, been looking for it the last 5 years.
+ajmolaliful It's actually quite short. If you factor in the backtracking you have to do in order to clear all the hotzones everytime they respawn then yea, the game can be pretty lengthy, but just playing through the game- you can finish it in about 2 hours. The world record is like 1 hour and 30.
But imagine playing it as a kid in late 90s. No internet that we know today to kack you up when you stuck on boss or puzzle. Most of you english knowledge is from dictionary laying on your lap. It's long on first playthrough, speedruning is different thing - world record for Morrowind is like 5 minutes.
They just don't make games like this anymore. I love eerie horror games like Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 1-3 and Parasite Eve 2 with the tank controls and fixed camera angles, just adds more anxiety when not seeing what's in front of you. Wish horror games nowadays be like this again but with better graphics.
I always imagine a series or film with a teaser trailer being the intro of this game but recreated exactly 100% like this. With the main actors revealing his role and that.
i still remember that time I got the last weapon Gun Blade, Squall's sword(FF8).. Sadly, when play until half way, the disc seems stuck and unable to proceed.. Nice game.. Just love it..
Loved Parasite EVE 1 ... I bought this at launch but never finished it... I rebought it on the vita/ps3 but haven't sat down to play thru properly. Very happy this video exists so I can see where I missed out. Additionally, I am very sad the direction the series took on the PSP and how that pretty much killed the franchise. I feel if they rebooted the franchise without the clothes ripping and possession it would be a good horror game.
This game was one of the last games to come out for the ORIGINAL Playstation (PS1) - as such the graphics are phenomenal, especially in the cut-scenes. I'm wondering, are you able to save the game using an emulator? Are you trying to unlock bonuses for subsequent rounds, or playing once just for kicks? You're obviously an experienced player, knowing all the trigger points even without the map. Yet you used items like protein capsules and belt pouches which are normally stored in a box for massive bounty points useful for a next go-round. PS there's shotgun slugs in the trunk of the car on the lift puzzle, and No 9 HATES slugs. Also there's many great guides/walkthroughs on gamefaqs (dot com) which will answer many of the questions people have here in the comments section. Thx!
The emulator has a built in memory card for the normal playstation saving, and that save can be used for replay mode as per the playstation, but you can also use save states and save and load the game instantly at any point in the game.

I watch Dfactors plays because he alwas plays either the games i owned or my aunts mom had when i was like 10 i used to go over and play like all night on the ps1 taking turns trying to beat like RE1 parasite eve 1 tomb raider..dino crisis 1 silent hill..and i would always be so scared man! And to think just a few years later we would have doom 3 and then after that for me came like all the F.E.A.R games i played by myself.and i was scared of ps1 games before...they just knew how to set that atmosphere and impending doom on you.very limited resources...no internet for a hint or walkthrough...trying times.lol

I finally added PE2 to my collection yesterday. Gonna try to get through the game this weekend. I love it that these PSone (greatest console of all time, followed by the Commodore 64) games are still getting some love.
Why were these old games so amazing in every regard? Newer games don't put this attention to detail anymore, also Squaresoft was the best game studio in the history of human kind, these games were ahead of their time and all of them were equally great, Square-Enix today its a disgrace compared to these wonderful products. These games were literally magic; Front Mission 3, FF VIII, PE2 and all of the stuff they released. These games deserve a remake, but keeping all original stuff untouched, just the graphics.
That scene in the cafe when shes mutating. Thats some top quality cloth simulation for the time. I say simulation but it was prob all hand animated which makes it even more impressive

Chrono Cross, FF IX and Parasite Eve 2 are all strong contenders for "best backgrounds in a Playstation game".

But imagine playing it as a kid in late 90s. No internet that we know today to kack you up when you stuck on boss or puzzle. Most of you english knowledge is from dictionary laying on your lap. It's long on first playthrough, speedruning is different thing - world record for Morrowind is like 5 minutes.
I still remember watching my mum play this game loved watching her fight NO9 in the motel. I thought he was yelling HIT lol
They just don't make games like this anymore. I love eerie horror games like Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 1-3 and Parasite Eve 2 with the tank controls and fixed camera angles, just adds more anxiety when not seeing what's in front of you. Wish horror games nowadays be like this again but with better graphics.
I always imagine a series or film with a teaser trailer being the intro of this game but recreated exactly 100% like this. With the main actors revealing his role and that.

What a Game this is!! I clocked it a few times and sometimes get my old PS out and replay it.
It was the best game I've ever played in my life. It was wonderful and enjoyable. I wish it was done again.

i still remember that time I got the last weapon Gun Blade, Squall's sword(FF8).. Sadly, when play until half way, the disc seems stuck and unable to proceed.. Nice game.. Just love it..

Loved Parasite EVE 1 ... I bought this at launch but never finished it... I rebought it on the vita/ps3 but haven't sat down to play thru properly. Very happy this video exists so I can see where I missed out. Additionally, I am very sad the direction the series took on the PSP and how that pretty much killed the franchise. I feel if they rebooted the franchise without the clothes ripping and possession it would be a good horror game.

This game was one of the last games to come out for the ORIGINAL Playstation (PS1) - as such the graphics are phenomenal, especially in the cut-scenes. I'm wondering, are you able to save the game using an emulator? Are you trying to unlock bonuses for subsequent rounds, or playing once just for kicks? You're obviously an experienced player, knowing all the trigger points even without the map. Yet you used items like protein capsules and belt pouches which are normally stored in a box for massive bounty points useful for a next go-round. PS there's shotgun slugs in the trunk of the car on the lift puzzle, and No 9 HATES slugs. Also there's many great guides/walkthroughs on gamefaqs (dot com) which will answer many of the questions people have here in the comments section. Thx!
The emulator has a built in memory card for the normal playstation saving, and that save can be used for replay mode as per the playstation, but you can also use save states and save and load the game instantly at any point in the game.
Man. I watch Dfactors plays because he alwas plays either the games i owned or my aunts mom had when i was like 10 i used to go over and play like all night on the ps1 taking turns trying to beat like RE1 parasite eve 1 tomb raider..dino crisis 1 silent hill..and i would always be so scared man! And to think just a few years later we would have doom 3 and then after that for me came like all the F.E.A.R games i played by myself.and i was scared of ps1 games before...they just knew how to set that atmosphere and impending doom on you.very limited resources...no internet for a hint or walkthrough...trying times.lol
The more I sit and watch this, the more I'm convincing myself to spend money on this game on eBay. I do miss it so. Sigh..

wow this is impressive first time I see this game but wow. You can clearly see their vision of a playable movie, much like they try to do it today.

Imagine how great that would've looked like. A bit like comparing Tomb Raider PS1 vs PC. Mods made that game even better.

I finally added PE2 to my collection yesterday. Gonna try to get through the game this weekend. I love it that these PSone (greatest console of all time, followed by the Commodore 64) games are still getting some love.
Why were these old games so amazing in every regard? Newer games don't put this attention to detail anymore, also Squaresoft was the best game studio in the history of human kind, these games were ahead of their time and all of them were equally great, Square-Enix today its a disgrace compared to these wonderful products. These games were literally magic; Front Mission 3, FF VIII, PE2 and all of the stuff they released.
These games deserve a remake, but keeping all original stuff untouched, just the graphics.
That scene in the cafe when shes mutating. Thats some top quality cloth simulation for the time. I say simulation but it was prob all hand animated which makes it even more impressive
