- Finally got my hands on the iPhone 14 pro and first thing I wanted to test was its cinematic capabilities. I used FiLMiC Pro to see what the 10 bit fuss is about. And the city I chose to test the iPhone 14 pro PRORES was no other than Beautiful Amsterdam.
Apart from the quality of the footage, which is outstanding, the things that really make this video "professional" are the creativity of the shots, the editing, the music track, and that lovely pull-away to the iPhone screen at the end. A masterstroke! No amount of super high quality footage in the hands of an amateur will be able to replicate proper film-creating done by a professional. Great stuff...!

Great editing, transitions, and music... the high sharpness and contrast hurt my eyes though. But beautiful work other than that.
So cool to see what is possible with the latest iPhone when it is in the rights hands of a filmmaker! :) Love the colors but its a little bit over sharpened. And I miss some motion blur that can be fixed easily with an ND filter.

Could you please confirm what par was recorded with filmic pro and what part with pro res, I want to see the comparisson after coloring a log footage to know if it;s worth it to get filmic
Try using the native camera app, to help with the over sharpening
We need prores in new cinematic mode and zoom the moon in 15pro max n etc progress
It's like a dream recording, it's enviably successful but I could do better if I had an iPhone 14😂

All the footage seems artificially oversharped, don’t you think?
Yes super Bright day light + shutter speed to the roof = super sharp footage
God job! What kind a overload did you use? Means from 7-10 sec. after film begining.
The video is pretty amazing but dude that sharpening is pretty bad. Way way too over sharpened and so much contrast, it break the experience.

iPhone footage is getting better and better but even though it's 10bit pro-res now, it still can't manage to get rid of that ugly digital sharpness that makes it look so cheap. If this ever happens, I'm buying one.

The only thing that always kills iPhone footage for me is the over-sharpening in their "Imaging Pipeline"
I've used iPhones for 7 years and I like what they've done with video... just the sharpening is annoying and you can't reduce it even in FiLMiC Pro as it's baked-in the footage.

How do you configure ProRes in 4K? In my phone I can just set 1080 to use ProRes 😔

Unfortunately filmic pro is too expensive now and the only reason (for me) to keep using it is it’s real log profile.

You can't deceive physics, the physical size of the matrix matters, phone cameras will always be hyperfocal.
Shoot on cameras designed for this.
What Storage do you have for the phone and how do you handle the workflow out and about? Assuming this racks up rather quickly?

I think it's not worth it ... Used Sony nex5 for £100 will shoot much better quality videos. It looks like mobile phone footage...and even colour grading,music and black bars will not help.
With a grade that strong, the film would have looked fine in HEVC 10 bit. What makes the film effective is the camera work, not the codec. Nice work though.

So, it's a Pro. Does it have a degree, any advanced education at all. Pretty sure it's the exact same phone that they should obviously be calling the iphone layman, or undergrad phone. Iphone kills me, anything they do and you people will pay thousands extra because it's a "pro", even though it's the same technology that Android had three years ago.

The shots were beautiful but I didn’t really like the video as a whole. For me, there was just too much going on in each shot and scenes were transitioning almost as soon as they started. There wasn’t any room to breathe. BUT that’s just me. There were still some really good shots and I can’t wait to finally get good at the editing side with all the color grading and light balancing.

Странно, что видео покрашено с таким сильно красным цветом кожи. 10 бит дают более менее минимальный диапазон, что бы при обработке видео исправить и, если нужно - подтянуть оттенок кожи в правильный. Но в этом видео такое ощущение, что с оттенком кожи никто не поработал, а телефон снял в неправильном балансе температуры.
И ещё видео из телефона узнаваемо своей сильной резкостью. Хотя при обработке можно немного резкость уменьшить, что бы видео было больше похоже на кино.

Hello. May I ask if the Prores & Cinematic mode footages need to be converted back to normal color (like rec709) before editing?
Because in my first attempt with Prores mode on Iphone 14 pro, I noticed that the colors of footages don’t seem to be normal/real color.

10 bit won't help with that oversharpened mushy look, does it sharpen the raw output always?
0:38 sharpening is off the charts.. is the lens really so soft that it needs this much sharpening? cant it be turned off?
