- THRIFTING ANTIQUES & VINTAGE | Consignments for Your Habitat | SHOP WITH ME
Goodwill can be so great!--but when it's not, we find other places to find antiques and vintage our collectors enjoy, at thrift store prices to boot! We visit a few thrifting alternatives you're likely to find in any metro area in this video. Can we find cool collectibles and hot deals?
In Evansville, Indiana we start at a big consignment store, where antique and vintage cabinet and tabletop items often used in their displays of quality resale furniture. Consignment stores usually price above wholesale at first, but prices drop monthly, so we look for the dates on the tag to find the discounted bargains! We come out with a simple advertising ashtray that turns out to be worth $20-25, and a set of really groovy 1970s orange stools that are a better deal than the last set we got at the flea market!
Then it's on to Habitat for Humanity, the thrift store arm of the now famous home building charity that has shops coast-to-coast. Recently, they've expanded beyond furniture and building supplies, carrying a variety of household and kitchen items that generally include antique and vintage pieces, sometimes priced as low as 50 cents! MCM cookie jars, Dresden Lace dancers and a set of 1969 Fiesta Ware with a pattern (really!) are finds for us.
We try a funky junk store along the route, realizing that it is a true dig that will require a lot more digging to make profitable for us vintage resellers. A Coke tray from 1950 catches our eye, along with taxidermy, brass torches, even Hillary Beer! We'll have to come back to this one to see what trickles through, it's a big pile that appears to heap higher regularly. Next time, maybe we'll pick up those wonderful church candelabra we can't fit in the car today!

I'm so glad you are at home with Xeno, it's really more entertaining when he has the camera watching you, and making commentary...I enjoy your channel, have a booth of my own because of you, but you and Xeno make an awesome duo..
I like it too! It lets me concentrate on the merchandise more. I'm excited you got a booth, I hope you do really well, we definitely are glad to have new folks join us selling in the real world
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
Xeno is invariably trying to trip you up....give George the credit he so aptly deserves!!!!
You are so knowledgeable and fun to spend about half and hour "window shopping" with of a motning.
Please come along anytime!
I would have never thought of going out to a consignment store. I'm going to start checking them out. Thank You
Oh good! Some are mainly clothes but the furniture based ones do get decor as well
Hi George! I thrift in Evansville frequently (I'm not a reseller) I ended up purchasing the Pfaltzgraff bird canister (from Seek & Find) for my sister in law who collects that pattern. It had been marked down to 11.90 by the time I got there.
That is awesome! I'm glad you got it
I am enamored of your voice, learned stylw and, well, you, George!😍
Aww, thank you! I'm so glad you're part of the community and I'll try to keep bringing you fun stuff
I had the Clairol makeup mirror in high school. Happy Thanks giving to you and yours, George.
All I know is that I would not want one of those mirrors now, at age 57, because I have zero desire to see my wrinkles up close, lol. Let the 20-somethings use them!
I'm the same age as you, and I agree lol
@@TheAntiqueNomad Right? Lol!!
What interests and information shopping. I and my friend we go to the Habitat for Humanity Resale here in Newberg, Oregon. Along with Goodwill. Sometimes great finds. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day
Love it when Zeno just stands thete with a item for u. Funny. You are teaching him well lol
He's a quick study!
@@TheAntiqueNomad seems like a smarty pants alright
The recommendations were nice & a large selection, Nice video, thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome 😊
I wish I had room for that Centipede Console Game!…..Damon and me would go crazy for it!
Oh that was cool, wasn't it?
Love the striped peices
Consignment stores are great..I love going to them still can't help thinking of one I went to in San Juan Capistrano someone was selling their ugly face jugs collection darn if I didn't buy any of course now I'm looking for them I've developed an interest in collecting them ❤
The blue and lavender striped tray and vase was 😍 pretty
Never saw fiesta had prints wow love fiesta wow
My ReStore is 1/5 the size of that one, but every so often blind-luck buys happen. Found 14k earrings, the mark was hidden, for 50 cents once! They overprice a lot, especially if the "expert" prices it at full retail, but when they goof they goof!
That's a fact! I realize many things won't be in my budget, but I'm happy with the things that are. I got a 14k emerald ring at a shop once that was so dirty they couldn't read the mark!
Love the orange stools!
George...kind soul.....we follow You...
Thank you so much for that!
I have that cheese tay and dome!!! The tray is side by side style instead of dome in the middle! I use the dome on small dishes / cake type plates!!!!
Nice idea! The shape is good for many things
That furniture was sooo fancy! I would want a scepter to go with it!! Fun shopping as always!! ❤
That Le Crueset set was a steal if you cook. Bet it lasted five minutes if the inside was in good shape. Enameled cast iron from France doesn't come cheap.
That's true! Not cheap, but easy to scorch if you weren't reasonably cautious
Thanks for highlighting WATT POTTERY ... I have a few pieces that I really love ... Giant Chargers ... I'm a sucker for giant Chargers, bowls, and platters ... All completely impossible to store lmao 🤣🤣🤣
I really like their stuff but it's big!
Great jaunt through lots of different stores, thanks!
This was such an informative video. I never thought of going to consignment stores, or the Habitat for Humanity store. Thanks for the great information.
You are so welcome!
Xeno the funsponge 😂
If you don't mind just check for good glasses no scratches Etc they may have a few scratches but if they're overwhelming cuz they're old
I LOVE that hanging lamp! If I had room for it-I’d totally pick it up....if only it wouldn’t clash with Disney. Lol
I liked that one a lot too
The Fire-King Turquoise blue bowl did originally come in the hammered aluminum, I had it it MIB at one time. The aluminum is an ice bucket design by Nasco. That price is a steal for that set. 🙂
I should've gotten it!
The ornate green furniture I liked
wow those gold plates like that I did not have a clue those were Fiesta My Grandmother Had plates like that
Good evening, George! What style and period were those green tufted and gold chairs? Those would definitely take a specific decor...and taste...to use them. I like that anodised aluminium beverage set. I have a set with a Bakelite handle on the pitcher. I liked those antique oval frames...not so much the contents, but definitely the frames. I have a 16 x 20 antique oval portrait of Jenny Lind that I really like. That was a pretty tall case clock, next to the blue sofa. Not a whole lot that caught my eye, but really enjoyed the take-along!!! It's always good to shop places you've not been. You never know what might be waiting on you 😉
Those were very specific and very 1960s to me! I like those aluminum beverage sets very much but I have fillings so drinking out of them not so good for me. Jenny Lind was so popular in her time, it's amazing someone from over 150 years ago has transcended time! I'm glad you had fun, I know it wasn't all that for a serious collector like yourself but I do like to take a snapshot of what is in these thrifts since a lot of people dig them
Great video!
I love the Bosson heads. I have the guy in the yellow rain hat. They chip VERY easily, so it hard to find them "clean" out in the wild.
That is so true!
Are they chalkware?
@@dirtisbetterthandiamonds Yes
Loved the video yes nice things
Always love ❤️ ❤ your videos…you have a very pleasant voice to listen to. Also Thanx to your Fri friend who is very helpful 👍🏼Going to keep watching more!!!! I realize I’ve been watching earlier videos but that’s ok! Thanx again I learn so much from you!
Another great video. Yeah for Indiana.
Thanks George , that was great. You know I have several pair of those candelabras with matching arch. If you want we can get them to you this april.
Sounds great!
Nice shopping.
Another fun time browsing with you, Charlie. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and mostly your knowledge. Thank You.
Oh I may have to visit Evansville! Nice shops & the nicest re-store I’ve seen.
Thanks for the wonderful video George & Xeno !
Please do! I'll meet you there
I have always wanted a pair of those candles, too. Been watching for a church selling a set. Great conversation piece. You get your guests settled down then announce the Black Mass is about to begin.
They have that look, yes!
This shelf for 10 dollars would be really useful for craft supplies.
Hey there I’m thankful for all the great information. Inspiring
George who is the other gentleman you are with. Have not seen him before except recently. Just started watching recently you wonderful channel.🇨🇦
Oh, thank you! That's Xeno Morph, he is my tech guru and shops with me on occasion

You and Zeno look like the Men in Black
Yes! He has sensitive eyes so the shades go with the look naturally
Ive always wanted oned one of those candlesticks too. My mom sais do you want to live in a church?
Lol!
It will make your home pious!
💖
George if those metal glasses and picture are $31 I will buy them with your commission I've been looking for them for my daughter for Christmas I will buy them.
I'm sorry I didn't get them when I was there
Thanks George
Fun & informative as always 🥰
Yay! Thank you! Glad to see you here, hope you're having fub
When was this video done? It would be great if you might consider the date in which you filmed it, especially if you don't live far and consider going back as you mentioned with this place.
I think the video shows the filming date somewhere down the list. I should go back for certain!
We bought lake house furnished left fiesta ware beige plates n red accessories ❤
Absolutely yes! When I visit family in Houston my first stops are 2 consignment stores. I’ve found some great pieces for my collections and for resale at fantastic prices. Plus, and not to drag the thrift stores, they are so much nicer to shop in. Enjoyed the video!
Agreed!
Love that Zingerman’s cheese box on the lower shelf of the console table in the first minute of the video. They are a well-known gourmet deli in Ann Arbor, MI. BTW, I spent a lot of time in Evansville. I spent nearly 25 years in sales for Mead Johnson. Happy Thanksgiving George and Xeno!
Oh cool! Nice to see you again, happy holidays
We got gold plates at grocery store. 60s
Happiest of Thanksgivings to you guys!
Same to you!
Men in 😎 Black 😄
Lol yes Xeno has sensitive eyes so wears shades indoors sometimes
Thanks for more suggestions for thrifting in Evansville, George! Looks like i'll have to make a day of it w/ an empty truck, lol. While remodeling our house a few years ago i frequented the ReStore in Bowling Green frequently! I like where the money goes to help. Seriously went 4 or 5 times for a number of things. They had a lot of useful & unique things. Some things looked like they'd come out of the dorms, which may have been remodeled, since that is a college town (Western Kentucky University). Happy Thanksgiving!
I need to get to the one in Bowling Green too! Have fun in Evansville
I’ve been disappointed in our Wa. ReStores. They tend to be quite high priced. Have you noticed differences as you have traveled about?
I sure have, not just between stores but within the same store. I think they're just starting to get used to "smalls" and the pricing is uneven...but that can mean bargains too
Happy Thanksgiving George, hope it’s a pleasant time for you & Xeno. The Restore in my town is my favorite place to find treasures. My most coveted find was on the 25 cent clearance shelf, an original painting by Ma Pe Wi a Zia Pueblo artist active in the early 1900’s. A close second was an antique Meissen covered box which turned out to be a book piece, paid $8.
Wow, what a find! I like the ReStores as well
Happy Thanksgiving to you both!
Thank you! Happy Holidays
The old faux fur pieces feel a lot different than the newer ones.
Hey George, were you thinking Laurentien pottery re: the Laclede brown drip bear? I'm not familiar with Laclede 🇨🇦
You are correct, but there were actually a few (including Laurentian and Laclede and Evangeline) who made those glazes besides Blue Mountain Pottery
@@TheAntiqueNomad Will be on the lookout for Laclede now too thanks!
❤❤❤
I have Waterford count down to millennium champagne flutes entire set
We have two consignments in P TC
Careful of those Murano stickers. Some say "Made in the STYLE of Murano".
Well that's more honest than the off-center red one that is a clear fake
We had cookie jug
There were too many cool items to list. That Habitat for Humanity store is organized much better than ours here in Columbia, MO, which looks like a tornado hit it.
They vary a lot, I've seen some good ones and some frightful ones
I wanna go with
It was an awesome video as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You and I pronounce Thonet and Murano differently. I googled how to say them and we both have Thonet wrong. Evidently it's toe-net. Mr aa now is the pronunciation of Murano.
You are right about Thonet, it's European so they don't say the H. I waffle between American and "correct" pronunciations sometimes
" Hillary Beer "... That brought back memories of " Billy Beer ".
I had to check & see if Billy Carter was still alive, but he died of pancreatic cancer in September of 1988, age 51, and left five children behind.
Was just in plains Georgia a few weeks ago and saw Billy's gas station. Amazing you can drive by president Carter's house. Love that town and has a great antique store. Stay in the decades hotel. So fun.
@@stephaniethirtyacre9532 Decades Hotel! Got it. Sounds like a good bucket list item. Thank you for the tip.
@@stephaniethirtyacre9532 Sounds like fun ! Have a Safe & Happy Holidays !
I was there a few months back but didn't get to antique! I have some video footage so I'll have to get back for more

The gold colour of the Casual Ware set is nice, not a copy of harvest gold. I think Fiesta Ware is well regarded for vibrant and unique colour.
2:36 Oh my gosh - I hope THIS never comes back in style ................. 😱
