My I request a video with tips specifically for sawmilling post oaks and water oaks? Maybe elms too. I am located in Texas' Post Oak Savannah north of Bonham, and most of my trees available are post oaks. They are so hardy once dried that I am interested in figuring out how to make the most of them. Thank you much for your videos. They will save me years of frustration.

I cut on a manual mill . It is very enjoyable work . Thank you for great information that I can use on my mill. I would love to hear your thoughts on very large logs. I have a few that I can not pick up with the tractor a have to parbuckle up on to the saw. Some I have had to cut in half with chainsaw to mill.
It is a very real problem, not only are they big they weigh too much to pick up. The way I approach it is to cut up logs up to 24" diameter on my sawmill. Then the logs bigger than that (some up to 4 ft. diameter) are too heavy to lift so I cut them up into cants my tractor will lift on my 60" chainsaw mill. then I can saw these cants with the sawmill. A sawmill is a least twice as fast as a chainsaw mill with a lot less kurf loss. Thanks for the comment.

I saw the yellow pine on a band saw and run straight diesel fuel on the band and it keeps the sap off perfectly.
If you’re cutting down leaning trees, learn the plunge cut method to avoid the Barber chair.

There is a difference in stronger... quarter sawn is stiffer and more stable but not as much flex making it snap under pressure...you don't want quarter sawn for roof rafters or floor joist ...flat sawn has more flex but a higher snapping point

There's a trick to cutting a leaning tree.
Never notch it on the side it's leaning to ,
Alway notch it to the left or right of the lean acting like you are want to cut it a different way then it wants to go .. this will keep it from splitting all the way out the top and taking your head with it..it will also fall a lot slower because your making it go a direction it doesn't want to go...
Thanks for the great suggestion, a barber-chair in a tree your cutting can be a very dangerous thing.
You can also use a chain and binder, and or a heavy-duty ratcheting truckers type strap above and below the felling kerf.
I bore cut leaners. I also chain them when I'm not sure. I've also used a ratchet strap. Bore cutting really helps to keep the log from splitting. Good luck.
I’ve never seen a chainsaw or circular saw that has a 1/2 inch kerf. Did you mean 1/4?
My big chainsaw mill uses .404 chain, makes a bigger hole than 3/8 chains.
Do you kiln dry your wood?
No, here's why. Most of the wood I cut are stored as 3" thick slabs. I also saw up 1" and 2" boards for some of my customers. You cannot kiln dry the three-wood thickness at the same time or it will cause CASE HARDNING of the thicker wood. This is where the outside of the slab is heated too high of temperature and because of the thickness of the wood does not dry the inside of the wood causing a hard outside of the board which cracks the wood.
Therefore, ALL of my wood is air dried in my barn (which is also my solar kiln). There is a lot to wood drying that I aim to cover in FUTURE VIDEO'S which includes how I designed my storage barn as a solar kiln to dry my large slabs and lumber.
