This was an under rated show. Phil Hartman advertising Rocket Fuel malt liquor is incredible. And when he was bragging that the review/ratings found him to be adequate.
It has always floored me that Stephen Root never got an Emmy for this show. He was, by far, my favorite character on this show. He's such a terrific actor.
Stephen Root is incredibly talented and has played a lot of great, memorable characters. But his portrayal of Jimmy James will always be the funniest and my absolute favorite!
This is one of the funniest scenes of all 90's sitcoms... and that's the series that has Phil Hartman's moldy sandwich, Dave hiding Bill's cane, the episode when Dave's office window has no glass, Matthew's virginity, Bill's cubicle, Dave's barbershop quartet, false Wisconsin Dave born in Canada, Dave's obsession with "A Horse with No Name", Matthew's adopted brother, Mr. James fake trip around the world... I love this sitcom. Newsradio's scripts were bonkers even by 90's standards.
@@excrono Also NewsRadio on the Titanic and NewsRadio in space. Both end of the season episodes where nobody knew if they'd be renewed and they wrote the craziest goodbye episodes they could come up with. \
@@ObsidianBehemoth Lol. I mean if you were watching newsradio in the 90s it's pretty much a given that you know who Ron Jeremy is without the audio commentary saying it.
I miss him alot too. It's tough to continue a show that he was the soul of and such an enormous reason why it worked in the first place. The whole cast worked so well together. Without him, everything fell apart and no longer worked. When they wrapped season 4, they, including the shows creators thought it was definitely over and already planning to move onto new projects.
I just started binging the show. I forgot how much I loved it when it originally aired. Steven Root as Jimmy James if my favorite although I love him in anything but he was the best at Jimmy James.
Stephen Root, Dave Foley, and Phil Hartman were a powerhouse trio, nevermind the rest of the cast and the great guests (Norm MacDonald, Lauren Graham, Patrick Warburton, and DB Coo-er, Adam West). I still occasionally remember the baseball ad episode, when they're worn down having cut it so short, just great.
For most of my professional life, I have written the phrase “Super monkey death car” when I would want to finish a sentence or paragraph sometime later. I forgot that this is where I got that from. Somehow I forgot the “karate” part though. 😂😂😂😆😆
Stephen Root was so well cast for News Radio. I'd forgotten about him... then watched an episode of "The Book of Boba Fett" and huh, this guy looks familiar.... Stephen Root! 😄
I started to feel that the show was on somewhat of a downward trajectory somewhere in the middle of season 4... it was getting lost in experimental and out there episodes (ironically I feel this may have inspired another sitcom, COMMUNITY, decades later) , and the final season with Patrick Warburton joining the cast was not my fave... but those first 3 seasons I adore and some of season 4... this ep absolutely being one of those great eps
The Lauren Graham (who I like) Experiment was a misfire. But Bill McNeal hypothetical interviews, Matthew being a dentist by trade, Bill doing Capital Steps, this. There was a lot of good material still there.
Knowing what I know about Japan now, this subplot wasn't entirely unfounded. JP loves some weird western stuff the way the west loves some weird JP stuff.
I try to incorporate "Jimmy has fancy plans" into my lexicon at least once a day 🧐
And pants to match!
1000 times no!
I use this one all the time.
“Jimmy has fear? A thousand times no.”
I've dropped an "a thousand times no" into conversation a couple times. No one gets it but me 😥
Stephen Root is the best. His line delivery cadence always gets me laughing.
war ............... War
Great character actor-can play anything.✌️
This is my all-time favorite episode of News Radio. Super Karate Monkey Death Car still cracks me up, a quarter century later.
It was a great show! Jimmy has fancy plans. Could not stop laughing. Started watching it on Amazon.
Agreed; I love this episode.
Stephen Root is an under-rated actor who should be a national treasure.
Stephen Root has been in constant demand for roles in high profile projects for about 30 years now. That's all the rating any actor really wants.
He was recently in the acclaimed show “Barry” where he was the best part of the show!
This was an under rated show. Phil Hartman advertising Rocket Fuel malt liquor is incredible. And when he was

The one where Matthew grew the mustache and all the women slapped him as soon as then saw him!
Sinking Ship.
I’d also add a security door, Dave’s arcade machine, Lisa’s SATs and a goofy ball to that list.

1:09 I just realized. That's Ron Jeremy in the dead center of the shot. Mind/blown.
That's the name. I remember they pointed it out in the audio commentary.
They all tranz people ftms and mtfs inverts gender pretenders
@@ObsidianBehemoth Lol. I mean if you were watching newsradio in the 90s it's pretty much a given that you know who Ron Jeremy is without the audio commentary saying it.
I just caught that
He also randomly appears in Ghostbusters
I used to laugh until my chest ached at this show in the ‘90’s. Phil Hartman was an all time favorite. Gone too soon.
Omg likewise!!!
What a great show. I could not stop laughing. Jimmy's fancy plans.
I mostly watch seasons 1 - 4. It's sucks that we couldn't have Phil Hartman in more of the them. We miss you Phil. R.I.P.

I've watched this scene countless times and it never fails to crack me up. God, Stephen Root is amazing.
Ron Jeremy just chilling in the audience always cracks me up.
Soon the Super Karate Monkey Death Car would park in my space.
I gave to give full credit to the writers on this one. I laugh every time this comes around.
Aw man, they cut out the best part. At the very end he just looks down sad and defeated.
Agreed!
"A shameful display!"
And Brian Posehn was brilliant asking earnest questions LMAO
I was telling my wife the same thing!
whenever i watch this, i always wait a few beats, and then sigh and drop my shoulders in defeat
Jimmy has fancy plans! And pants to match.
One of my favorite TV scenes ever. Excellent writing, excellent acting, and all sorts of stars in the reading audience.

I met Stephen Root on the street years ago after a bway show. My biggest regret is not saying “super karate monkey death car”. He was very nice.
50% of a Chock Full o' Notes reunion in this scene.
When you use Google Translate for an entire book...
Jimmy James. He truly is a macho business donkey wrestler.
and Doobie Keebler
@alanmalcheski8882 No, Matthew, I can definitively state that I am not "Doobie Keebler".
Jimmy strong. No but the donkey man fly.
Easily the funniest bit in the entire series.
The office, before The office. Credit should be given for that. Great Show!
This is why the writers’ and actors’ strike matters.
Are they still striking 9 months later?

When I get the hankering to go see Sonic Death Monkey, I hop in my Super Monkey death car and make a drive over to Championship Vinyl.
1:08 The guy in the second row with the flower shirt is Ron Jeremy. This was the episode he casually campers in.
Wow! You’re right. This appearance is a bit ominous now that his crimes are known to the public.
What the hell is Ron Jeremy doing there?!
@@johnclavis He heard about donkey wrestling and misunderstood
This show is part of my heart.
How many takes d'ya suppose it took, huh? Posein was perfect!
News Radio ❤❤❤
What a excellent cast!
This is one of my favorites episodes.

What anime plotlines sound like to our parents.
I would buy that book!
This makes me belly laugh everytime I watch it. He is so funny. But tell me, did he ever get his red stapler back?
This was a really REALLY GOOD SHOW.
Best cast ever and perfect writers to bring out the best in them
Ron Jeremy in the audience at 1:08
Jesus fuck, i watched this on syndication for ages and never noticed that!
I think I might call my autobiography Super Karate Monkey Death Car
is that ron jeremy sitting in the audience? hahha
Feel my scales, donkey donkey donkey donkey
It's a shame that they never did an episode with Jimmy James: Live At Budokan.
That's something the WB would've done if they would've picked up NewsRadio after NBC tossed it off from it's 98-99 TV Lineup.
Stephen Root was so well cast for News Radio. I'd forgotten about him... then watched an episode of "The Book of Boba Fett" and huh, this guy looks familiar.... Stephen Root! 😄
And Posehn shows up in Newsradio again...
I've always wanted a super karate monkey death car...
Me too 😂
Surly makes a mountain bike called the Karate Monkey.
It's a great band name
2nd row white shirt looks like Ron Jeremy.
More than looks. It is Ron Jeremy.
I have a license plate frame that says “Super Karate Monkey Death Car”
God I miss that show...he was just hilarious!
Who noticed Ron Jeremy in the audience?
We all just gonna not notice that Ron Jeremy is at this book reading?
It was a great show.
Now we understand how the Man in the High Castle could read the I Ching so well....
I would most definitely buy that book!!!
I hope Crispin Glover recreates this whole scene in a 1 act one hour play in full costume. And Ron Jeremy played by Sasha Grey, of course.
Is that Ron Jeremy in the audience?
Nevermind. Just looked it up. It was him. He had an uncredited small part in this episode.
I just had the exact some thought
Amazon Prime has the complete series. Started to watch. Love this show.
Ron Jeremy is in the audience!
Oh, I get it now! Steven was doing a parody of Donald Trump! Brilliant and prophetic!

Jimmy James: Live at Budokan!

Ron Jeremy is sitting in the crowd
Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care
