Chappelle Show, Fawlty Towers, Seinfeld, The Norm Show, the Dana Carvey Show are my top comedy programs of all time. The timing and construction of this scene is masterful.

Maybe from some altercation that happened on the set of Screwed (a film they were in together)???

I can't think of any serious roles he did, but he'd have been great. Examples like Bill Murray in Lost In Translation, Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love, etc. I wonder if he'd have tried if he'd lasted longer, I bet he had it in him.
