@@drivetheglobe May have been just one squeak, TBH - or at least one main one! Just the sort of thing you get from exhaust pipes - either loose joints or loose brackets but I see elsewhere you named the cause.
Nice off road vid boys. I first drove a mog , prob same model, ut it had a canvas roof. When i was 5 or 6 years old. Working in the woods, then i passed my test as stupid enough, n moved up onto a equal wheel county with double drum winch, dragging feld trees down to the landing site. I was not heavy enough to hold one side brake pedal down to asssist turn, so i used to jump up n down on it. Had to eat more fresh farm food n rib sticker to gain a few kilo. 20 odd years later graduated onto a mog with silly size winch on front, think 25 ton, with tipper body on back. The only time i stopped it in its tracks, was with 4 or 5 tons of gravel on the back, i backed it u a steep banking the all go grass cutters could only cut up and down, no traversing. Backed it up, when i came back to bottom, the massive winch on the front dug in, i was not throttling, so i backed up a bit, up a stick, bit of juice n made a duck pond, winch shaped. The lawn keepers werent to impressed. It was one of those vehicles with a few tons on back, it was a question of name somewhere it would go. Used to bit of off roadin too, get some axel travel straps fitted or carry spanners to take front half of back prop off, to join up again when it pops out at max cross angle. Nice vid, reminds me, that men dont grow up, they just go off road.
I used to drive M37's in the army. Great fun bun without power steering could be quite a handful. I also owned a lifted diesel Toyota landcruser station wagon. I drove it 800k km and it finally rusted out. Thinking of getting a Unimog or LSVW.
Great looking unimog and great dirver! I've seen some of the DOKA's go for crazy money, great to see one being used right! I had a 416 with the longer wheelbase and more powerfull engine (compared to regular 406), but i sold it recently because i was unable to get plates for it. Im now looking for a U1700 or maybe spend a little more for something lika a U2450.
Looks like some of those rovers could benefit with at least a rear diff lock so they can crawl through some of that stuff instead of throttle through it.
One of the Disco's had lockers and made it through. Yes, the others did not and were challenged with either having to use too much power or having to be pulled or winched. Thanks for watching.
I thought one of them had them, thanks for the reply love unimogs planning on getting a 1300L in the near future I sold mhy 12V dodge to my dad. The unimog may not be the most practical truck but at least it isn't made of plastic will eventually get a camper box.
1300's are awesome. Solid truck, and yes, no plastic. They are actually fairly practical for most things unless you want to go fast on the highway. Mine tops out at around 62mph- which is about all you want to go with big tires.
Was one of those a Pinzgauer? I didn't see that getting stuck anywhere. There was a company close to my work where they would import and "Americanize" them so I would see them once in a while. Kind of odd to see a Pinzgauer tooling down a Pennsylvania road on a test drive.
A much too commom technique shown here, is to approach an obstacle with enough speed and momentun to scale it, and upon first contact either reduce the throttle to idle, push in the clutch, or hit the brake ( often all three simultaneously ). This very effectively negates the advantageous speed / momentum once had. All further attempts are made merely to scale the object and then regain the lost speed / momentum ...
I suspect the landys are all auto boxes - so particularly difficult to maintain speed either increase or decrease. Clearly the Unimog's always driving and just crawls up stuff. I've seen other cases and as they lose speed, they rev the engine - the sudden power just spins the wheels.
Truly inspiring and beautiful Unimog. Would you mind sharing what year and model she is. I fell in love with her. First time I've seen a 4 door. What a feeling to handle all those articulations and watch the other units struggle and abuse with every climb. Awesome fun. Thanks for sharing. BC is watching WADZ
@@drivetheglobe Thank you for the reply, just for the MOG in this year what would you suggest I budget just for the truck in a similar year? Cheers and thanks again
@@drivetheglobe If the springs are making noise then they are not tight. More than likely the noise is caused by frame flex and the roof rack mounts. My guess is there are cracks in it or broken bolts. Also how much cab lift is on that thing? I raised mine an inch and I thought it was too much!
@@vonsmog1 you are probably right, gonna have to take a look at the rack mounts. I have broken them in the past due to the frame flex off road. I will have to look but I believe the cab lift is about an inch and a half to clear the turbo. Gonna be taking the mog on a big trip coming up so I will be going through the whole thing. Also have an issue right now with no front locker engagement- which I picked up from this video.
@@drivetheglobe Front locker not working could be a bunch of things, broken air line, bad locker seals, or if not used much the locker piston can stick due to rust. Check for air leak while the truck is not running, but with a full air tank. If no leak from the line, see if you can hear a leak in the axle it self. Sometimes if the leak is bad enough it can blow the dipstick out of the transmission, or pop the portal box seals. Feel free to call me if you have questions. Contact info on vonsmog.com
@@vonsmog1 When the temp goes up slightly I will go check those few things. I am pretty sure it is not air, I dont believe the line is leaking. Could be rusted piston. Was a little concerned with some of the time I have spent in deep water. They get a fair amount of use so not sure. Thanks for the input and I may contact you as I try to get it sorted out. Looks like I have some minor portal leaks too. Trying to tackle the lack of wipers or washer squirter. Getting to the motor is a bear! Hoping it might just be the wire feed.
Stay tuned for a big announcement about an adventure that this truck is getting ready for. We are stoked!
Unimog 4x4 "THE LEGEND"😍
Have to love the mogs. ❤️
While others work to make it over obstacles, the Unimog goes for a walk in the park 😂😂😂
It certainly is a joy to drive off road! Thanks for watching.
Wow!!! Unimog, German engineering at its best. I wish i could have one
They are well built. Thanks for watching.
The last relaxing off-roading video I have ever seen

The Unimog has by far the best squeaks !
And it does have squeaks! Thanks for watching.

Land Rovers etc- that was a tough trail----Unimog- when does the offroading start?
It takes a tough challenge to get the mog stuck, thanks for watching.
I was very surprised to see the difficulty the Land Rovers had on a moderately rough trail.
They held their own really. Rough trail though.
That Moggy is the dogs dangly bits !!!
Love your Unimog-do not see very many of them. The bright orange paint with the black trim really set it off!
They are around and about, not too many that are 4 door though. Thanks for watching.
Amazing video

It is funny that some of those roads like familiar 🤣.
Lots of Class 4 Vermont

Very nice. There are a lot of options out there. Liking my lmtv now. Certainly a lot of creature comfort for a military truck.
Honey badgers and Unimogs.
Honey badgers 😂😂
That Landrover goes straight to the wrecker after that drip
It did survive, but the owner definitely drives it aggressively.

People you have to remember unimogs are basically military vehicles, they are built to go anywhere.
And they do go just about anywhere, thanks for watching.
More of a tractor then anything
@@drivetheglobe I wouldn't say they were specifically military but must be the most tooled-up of any off-roader.

Nice Unimog, you had the def locks on I guess, the white Discovery 1 needed them, that was a tough trail, good job...
Actually only had the rear diff lock on here as we discovered the front one was not engaging. Was a fun trail though. Thanks for watching.
Those land rovers would have made quick work of those obstacles if they just had lockers.
