No matter how much I have read about WWII, I always learn from these presentations. This was another great
    presentation. Thank you.

Amazing historical presentation ~ thank you. My father, William Alfred O'Connor, was 1st Lieutenant USMC First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division, Auto. Equipment Operator ~ Okinawa April 1-April 14th, 1945. He NEVER spoke about the war. I appreciate learning about what he went through.

Great presentation by Saul David. I've been interested in finding out more about the battle of Okinawa, and have been intrigued, and terrified, by the role of the civilians and their fate. Perhaps unbeknownst to many non-Japanese, this battle is not brushed over in Japanese schools. It is used as a "rallying point" for peace and against war. Just two days ago I watched an NHK program on the battle, it was at a Naha school. It showed photos of twenty and thirty 15-18 y.o. school girls in their classrooms in Okinawa, smiling at the camera, dressed in their pretty uniforms, one or two years before the battle: over half of them perished in the battle. Chilling.

Your brilliant Mr. David! so much indepth detail. Would love to have seen you live. Coming from a family steeped in Scottish regiments who have been fighting in India, Sudan, South Africa, Afghanistan, WW1, WW2 and Korea I find your topics very interesting. Glad we have interested and knowledgeable people like yourself who can shed knowledge on our past.

A fascinating dissection of a momentous decision - to use the A-Bombs to end WW2 & why they did it.
    - great to hear the back ground - Okinawa & how desperate it was
    - to understand the difficult trade offs made
    - & the alternatives considered - eg blocade & starve out the Japanese mainland - would have been horrific.
Have heard this over simplified & criticised too often with little understanding of (or even unwillingness to acknowledge) this all important context.
