- On this day I set out to break my smallmouth PB and try to catch a 30lb bag. Prior to this I came close to breaking that 8lb mark but could never get it done. Little did I know this was going to be my best day of fishing ever. I had a couple people that were supposed to go on this trip with me but unfortunately couldn't make it last minute. I wish I could've shared this experience with someone else but this video will give a glimpse of what a spectacular and blessed day it was.

That’s how I felt too. Anytime there’s a decent smallmouth bite here it takes 25-30lbs. My personal biggest bag ever of just smallies was 28.9 and was only good enough for 2nd that day. lol Smallmouth fishing is pretty incredible here… but I can’t even imagine an 8lb average of just smallmouth. Unreal.

Where is this lake? I live 10 miles from where the world record was caught near dale hollow lake. OK. Never ever have I seen a mega bag like this nor seen this many big ones caught at once. He had so many others that didn't even make the cut to. Insanity!! My PB 6 pounds 4 ounces 24 and 1/4" fish.

I’m in north Alabama and it doesn’t get much better than pickwick and Wilson lakes for truly giant smallmouth. Fall through early spring, a 5lb average might just get you beat lol. My pb is 8.3 and I have seen several over 9 caught. I’m still struggling to believe what I am seeing in this video. Where is this? Those fish look insanely fat. That’s the real difference between summer weights and the rest of the year here really. The typical 5lb summer fish will be 7+ come January and February. Especially if it was a super cold winter. If it gets cold enough for a shad kill, they gorge until they look absolutely freakish fat. As good as it is here at times, I want to go wherever he is. That’s insane.

I see it often smallmouth looks smaller/bigger than another but has a higher or lower weight. I’m heading back up there in April/May. My PB Small is 6.1 but not from here.

Nobody needs to know the lake you were on or any exposing details...but "where" and when were these fish caught? Another question is, aside from PB's, can you provide video of you going out and catching limits of 4 lb. smallmouth during summer months? Was this a fluke, or are you a great smallmouth guide? Have you won tournaments? Where? These fish are HUGE, and that alone is fun to watch. No doubt. But some deeper context would make this video so much better.
Hey Kurt, this was my first year fishing this lake and it is known to have giant smallmouth in it. Only reason I fished started fishing it was because we had our TBF Semi final on it. I ended up winning that tournament to qualify to fish TBF Nationals in Missouri in March actually. Our tournament was in the beginning of October but I did fish this place in early/mid September and was able to catch big fish consistently but was never able to put together a mega bag. This video was shot after our tournament in late October and after much trial and error, I was able to figure out what the fish really wanted bait wise.
