    Thank you, Amanda. I tried your suggestion: first video with normal speech, and for the second, third, and fourth videos, I increased the energy and excitement. You were right; increasing it to 50-75% made a huge difference. Going to 100% was probably too much. Thanks for this tip. 🙂

    This video is so he;pful. I started recording RUclips videos three years ago when COVID started; I have been teaching online since then (college level classes). I record a new video each week for my students. This semester, Fall 2023, I finally feel comfortable in front of the camera. My presence in the videos is so much more confident and smooth. I also record videos much quicker and feel that they are much better because I have learned how to record my head shots. For me, the secret was simply to keep recording myself and gaining more experience as I kept doing it.

    Tonality...that is so true... part of my job [when I was still young enough to work] I would answer the phone [a salesman] and we started recording my voice... it was horrible... I had to learn to always sit up in my chair, raise my head a bit, and speak in a higher level than normal in order to not sound like a serial killer...

    0:00 📹 Overcoming challenges with on-camera presence is achievable with awareness and practice.
    1:40 🎬 Approach the recording process in a way that suits your style, whether it's improvisation or using a teleprompter.
    2:45 ⚡ Energy is essential for engaging on camera. Projecting energy requires more than just speaking in a normal tone; it involves using gestures, varying voice tone, and maintaining enthusiasm.
    5:49 🎙 Tonality plays a crucial role in keeping viewers engaged. Experiment with voice modulation and inflection to make your delivery more dynamic and interesting.
    7:04 👀 Watching yourself on camera helps identify areas for improvement, such as body language, makeup, and vocal habits. Embrace these observations to enhance your on-camera presence and boost confidence.

      Hi Michaela Just keep doing it, sounds like a cliché however that's the only way. I had few issues in my presentation style then I realized that the audience is not even noticing it. It's me who is freaking out over minor stuff. Research shows that people like how they are (with flaws) so it's ok.

    But I had to take a long break because of becoming a father of twins (a boy and a girl), and it's very daunting and tiring now to have enough energy for everything. But still my old videos bring me new clients and private students, I've increased my prices dramatically and it works!

    Jesus you freaking nailed it!!!! Amazing advice and you have a beautiful energy and presents about you what you share is gold and it’s exactly right I am a very outgoing person and when I’m on the camera it’s kind of the opposite. I’m using a Teleprompter on my cell phone but my personality is not shining through like it does when I’m in front of people so I’m going to try your method. Thank you so much.

  • @keacoq

    Thank you for your video. Just done a 7 minute video to be presented at a conference. I discovered that standing up helped with energy and tonality. I totally learnt from experience that you have to heap the energy on, or it looks like nothing. Agree that you have to take the time to watch yourself, the only way to find those faults. I made a teleprompter using a document in a window in front of the camera screen. I found that helpful. But I improved the script by deviating from it winging it, then listening to myself and including in the script the ad hoc parts that seemed to work. Sooo much repetition, but the final result was very much better than the first attempt.

      1 great way to keep audiences engaged in your video is to have something change in the scene every 7-10 seconds, whether its a cutaway shot, change in focal length, camera angle, on screen pop-up etc. A scene that goes longer than roughly that period of time without anything changing can make the video 'feel' like it's long and slowing down causing viewers attention to rapidly start drifting. Hope your videos turned out well!

    I've done 3 videos so just getting started. And talking into the camera things is the biggest obstacle. I end up doing the videos over and over again and just give up because it just doesn't feel right. That's why I'm not following anyone's rules yet. Recently I've found my sound was just too high and kept thinking it was the mic, but it turned out to be me, so that's not fun either. Not to mention editing. Also, I don't want to talk to the VidQ or TubeBuddy people because I don't want to narrow to a niche and I don't think my preferred topic is anything they cover. I don't go on vacation, I'm not selling anything and I don't want to do cute pet videos, so I actually feel like there's not any real help out there, and the people who might help seem too far out of reach for me.

    • @adrianvanleeuwen
      @adrianvanleeuwen 2 года назад +3

      If you are having problems talking freely to the camera with just an outline, maybe create a 2 or 3 page full script and try a teleprompter for your camera or phone cam. Nothing to memorize when using a prompter but you can practice delivering the lines over a few times for each couple of sentences using prompter until it sounds natural. Practicing off camera in front of a large mirror might help also.

    I was interested in this video until around 2:45 when I realized that I wasn’t going to get what I want (guidance) unless I “click the cards” or go to “the description below”. I feel like RUclips is two things: a place for viewers who are less familiar with how it all works, and how the creators all pretty much do the same thing: ask you to follow, to like, to comment etc… and secondly, it’s become a place where people who use RUclips every single day, and have for many years, for various things such as entertainment, knowledge, experience… are starting to become bored with hearing the same style, and same pitch from every single creator; to the point where as soon as they start asking me for something (especially before they’ve given any information!), I’m ready right then and there to change channels. Just a word for the wise because I feel like creators very soon are going to need to step up their game if they really want to do this RUclips thing successfully.

    • @AmandaHorvath
      @AmandaHorvath  2 года назад +1

    • @AmandaHorvath
      @AmandaHorvath  2 года назад

      There's a major energetic shift in marketing right now. Your comment on the old way of RUclips could be part of that shift. There's certain algorithm things that are changing, but it's more so the way people perceive marketing.
      Like a breaking down of certain things working and new things arising. Ex. Facebook ads are majorly dying.
      From an esoteric perspective, it resonates with the belief that we're entering into the age of Aquarius.

    When I recorded my first serious video, my hook took 10 minutes to nail down. Yes, I still can't say that I am authentic on camera and freestyle by just writing bullet points, but I believe that I am about to get there.

      It definitely takes time!! How to be authentic on camera is my #1 mission right now so if you haven't yet, def be sure to catch my more recent videos that explore this topic. It's not super black and white!

    0:51 I recorded today for the first time and watching back the footage: Yes that is totally what I thought. But I'm ready to try again, so watching a bunch of videos like this one :) The only fun clip I have, is where I was joking (to the camera) about some broken fence behind me, because that was the only part of all footage where it was ME being excited about a fence and not me trying to read a script.

      Exactly!! The more you do it, the more you'll see yourself being real and you'll be able to recognize it better next time you film. It's taken me nearly 5 years to feel that my on camera presence truly is who I am. And even as I type that, I know I too can get better!

    I just wish I could stop feeling stupid and self conscious. I feel like Americans sound natural being enthusiastic but I'm English so when I do it my voice goes weird and I start sounding strange or saying words wrong 😂 I don't understand. I can talk to anyone in person but voice overs and camera I turn weird.

    Useful information but, I'm always turned off when YT videos turn out to be informercials for something the creator is selling. I'd like it better, or I think it would help if, the creator said up front that the video is an example of information contained in a full course that they offer. Then, at the end of the video, perhaps, say that a link to the course is in the description below. I just feel disappointed and a bit deceived when all of a sudden the creator diverges from the topic and starts hawking their product. IMHO if your selling something just tell me at the beginning. 😊 Be safe. be well. May all your ups and downs have soft landings. 😊

      Everyone has to make a living these days. Creators can earn more by doing their own marketing than relying on meager amounts that AdSense pays them. I don't mind if a video includes a pitch for a book, course or merch. The key is make sure that the video still has some real value and compelling content to it.

      Hahha I sooooo get it. I don't know why it happens either. I've wondered for myself if it's cause I'm short and used to talking up at people 🤷‍♀️ I've learned to make sure the camera is slightly higher than eye level to avoid getting too much chin - there's a lil trick for ya!
