    Hey I have 5 BGP motors. 4 have the numbers “0838” and 1 has “0738”. The one with the “0738” has a forged crank shaft. I think it’s the “07” at the beginning is what is the identification for the different crankshaft.
    Did the forged crank come out of that one with “07” at the beginning for you as well ?
    And has anyone else found the same thing?

    • @PBGarage
      @PBGarage  Год назад +2

      Yeah I’m pretty sure it came out of the 07 numbered motor.

      @@y_just_y8317 I've gotta find another 2.5 long block for another project I'm working on, so I'll be pulling some oil pans at the junkyard to find a longblock with a forged crank already in it - I'll keep track of the numbers and post an update when the time comes.

    Apparently the rs3 crank drops right in, but it's quite expensive. But I do believe it has more flywheel/clutch options

    • @PBGarage
      @PBGarage  2 года назад +4

      Yeah, but they’re not exactly $28 at the junk yard lol. Also you have to upgrade all the timing components to match the different style timing chain sprocket on the RS3 crank. The RS3 crank is lightened too, it’s a sexy crank for sure.

      @@PBGarage thanks to Richard Holdener, we all know stock cast cranks can handle stupid amounts of power. Made like 1400hp on a sbe 6.0 ls.
      But if one were to do an all out 2.5 build, I guess a rs3 crank wouldn't be too bad. Probably easier to get, better parts availability, and since the 07k is so cheap, you'll still come out ahead

    • @inaNis_
      @inaNis_ 2 года назад +2

      @@NatoriousGamePlay hold your horses there bud, the reason why the V8 cast cranks are so good has more to do with the fast that they're physically massive and have a lot of material and torque holding capacity. You're also dealing with 6 bolt mains for the LS (4 bolt for a BBC or SBC) but only 2 for the 07k. But the biggest thing you need to remember is that a 5 cylinder has a lot of funky harmonics and vibrations. Those will kill a crank real quick if you try and spin it too fast or with a lot of torque esp at lower RPMs.

    Was it found in the engine with the 31/05/05 build date? Maybe the crankshafts were forge in the earlier models up to the first half of 2006

    • @booneylander
      @booneylander 9 месяцев назад +3

      Yes the first forged crank was in the 31-05-05 build date motor. I’ve just brought home another motor with a forged crank, and the build date on that one was 19-08-05.

      The one I have with forged crank is 09-06-06 BGP 110840 I pick up a 08 motor that I guess I should check it out
      The one in my car is hard to tell. It’s 14-02-07 BGP 162366. Hard to tell because looks like someone did a good job a grinding down the seam from the forging process versus the other forged and non-forged cranks I’ve seen don’t seem like they have had as much grinding as this one did.

      @@y_just_y8317 you know what’s weird is that recently someone sent me a marketplace listing for a “forged” crank, with 07k010e on the end of the crank but it clearly was a cast crankshaft. So either the one pic of the part number on the snout was “fake” and they were trying to pass off a cast as forged. Or some cast cranks have the forged part number on them.

    Any idea which BGP engine the forged crank came out of? the 109955* or the 049740? I'm on the search for one with a forged crank but unfortunately non of the engine recyclers around here let you pull off the oil pan so it's going to be a crap shoot. (Thanks for doing the research)!

      Look at 4 number next to BGP is must have “07” at beginning example. 0738 should have a forged crank 0838 doesn’t not have one possibly. (UPDATE) Booney has discovered this to be untrue. Thank you
