Moto Camping the Burgoyne Track SOLO | KLR650 ADV Ride

- Join me on another wild solo adventure as I attempt to tackle the Burgoyne Track from East to West. This track is not for the faint of heart, and in reality, not great for heavy adventure bikes.
After setting up camp in the beautiful McAlister Gorge on the McAlister River, I embark on an early morning journey to conquer the track. With mechanical failures and multiple falls along the way, my ride is cut short and I'm left stranded in the wilderness.
But I'm determined to find a way out, and the only option is the very tricky Hickey Creek Track. Can I fix the KLR and limp out from the top of the high country on the busted up KLR?
Come along on this unforgettable adventure full of highs and lows, stunning views, and unexpected challenges.
Your attitude is so amazing, great videos Sir, keep them coming!
Thanks a lot for the kind words. Keeps me motivated to keep making videos!
"Look at this Faaarkin rock gaarden" - war cry of the Aussie single track soloist
Absolutely beautiful ride, you have a really good attitude even when you drop your bike you laugh it off. By far my favorite KLR Channel you really ride that bike like no one else.
I appreciate the kind words. I think you have to have a bit of a positive attitude on the solo trips, otherwise it can go bad really quick. Thanks a lot for the support.
I agree! You’ve put a new love for my KLR which I was contemplating trading. Hands down I’m keeping mine now!
Thanks for this, hearing this stuff keeps me motivated to keep making videos!
Incredible stuff mate. Much respect. That track is insane.
Cheers mate, yeah that track is next level.
You have the same helmet as mine. I love it best ive ever had.
Yeah it’s a ripper isn’t it!
Definitely worth the extra coin.
I had wanted one for ages, but they only ever had the white one in stock here. I was pretty happy when I found the black one.
Fantastic, Man! That was great...... gotta get my KLR with sidecar out and do more.
Cheers mate! Hang on what? You have a sidecar on a klr?! Epic.
Yeah and as well as the sidecar(it's actually the sidecar platform) I've engineered leading axle 13mm aluminium plates. Takes the axle forward 60mm which has improved the handling. It's a 1995 model with a 692 big bore kit! I'm heading around Australia next April, my second attempt! I started the first trip but only traveled 300 kays before the sidecar wheel decided it didn't want to go any further! 7 ribs, foot and hand broken bones and severe concussion. The bike and side-platform just about ready again!😁@@NotShookADV
Impressive that you engineered it yourself. Wow you really got messed up in that last attempt! Hopefully this trip you make it around. @@andrewquinn3339
Wow 😮 and fully loaded amazing skills. Some of the best riding I have ever seen
Cheers Tony! huge compliments.
Thanks for watching.
what a lovely spot for a camp, reminds me a lot of the Jacksons crossing area on the Snowy
It really was a nice campsite. Yeah it is a fair bit like Jackson’s crossing, only difference would be McAlisters is a bit more mountainous and steep around the river. Both really great spots. Thanks for watching.
Mate your video popped up in my feed this morning while having breakfast.
Great to see other guys fully loaded up and giving hard tracks a go solo (I’m not the only idiot doing that lol) That’s what it is all about.
Awesome work.
Cheers mate!
I have just started watching your stuff this past week too, you have had some proper epic adventures.
Really inspirational stuff.
went and did this track in 2022, seems to have been graded in 2023. prior to grading I wouldn't consider this on anything bigger than 150-160kg solo but it seems alright now just a bit steep.
Probably a bit borderline on the KLR at my skill level to be honest. But like you say, it’s in pretty good knick the track, has definitely been graded at some stage.
What bike did you tackle it on back in 22?
Youve gots some balls lad, i reckon you could make Rambo cry😅😅
Hahah cheers legend!
Thanks for watching.
Brutal riding
Yep this was a tough one, the KLR got a real thrashing
Bro! Frickin sweet! Love how you matched your Alpinestar boots to your bike! I do that as well! Gnarly riding bro!!! Klr650 still got you there and back! Oh btw, nice luggage on your bike bike! Nicely done!!
Thanks mate. Yeah that’s my first wear of the Astars boots, I love them, haha gotta have something matching! Still figuring out the luggage, had a few major issues with my pannier bags, but gets the job done for now.
The KLR was just begging for a bit of a rest I think, like you say she got me home, still undefeated.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Love your cooking improvisation!
A bit unorthodox but got the job done! Thanks for watching.
Your videos are super awsome and very inspiring, especially as a solo. Love the KLR as I own one aswell. Caint wait too become good enough to fallow in your foot steps. Love Ya Brother...
Cheers brother! Means a lot to me hearing that. Im just out there learning as I go too. There’s a lot to love about the KLRs! Thanks for the support.
Another awesome video! No idea how you got up those rocky hills. Glad you made it out ok.
Cheers mate! Just scraped to the top, It wasn’t pretty a lot of it that’s for sure.
Glad you made it down that hill ok, scary shit, well handled man, still a very real nemesis of mine..👍🏻
Yeah they can be tough when you are fully loaded on the downhill for sure!
Hope you have a cell phone signal in case you get hurt. But my hat's off to you for going for it.
Definitely no Cell for hours each way, I always carry a Satphone on all my rides. Cheers mate, thanks for watching.
Awesome stuff mate. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
2nd gear challenge completed, well done! 0
Cheers mate! Just limped out.
I hope you plan to make more videos. I have enjoyed your content a lot!
I do! I’m 2weeks into a mega adventure trip right now, so many videos to come in the next few months! Including heaps of mods and upgrades to the KLR.
I’m really glad you are enjoying the content
Let’s go! Stoked to see what you have been up to.
Some awesome looking tracks 👍
It was really great country out there, I cant wait to get back and explore it more! Thanks for watching.
Awesome stuff mate, love the spanner fork 🤣😂
Track looked bloody gnarly, some sections looked super sketch haha! I've been keen to hit Burgoyne track for a while, might need to suss it out when I'm back on the bike.
Cheers mate! Yeah it’s a full on track. Most of its really doable, but a couple of the sections are pretty ridiculous , on the KLR anyway. But 100% worth checking it out, it’s awesome up the top there, I can’t wait to properly explore a bit more around there.
Inspiring stuff!
I love hearing that! Thanks heaps for watching.
This is how the KLR is suppose to be rode!
Cheers mate, I agree the KLR loves this type of riding.!
Your Videos are GREAT! I'm looking forward to hearing what's up with your Transmission and the Shifting issue!
Cheers mate, I am glad you are enjoying them! Fingers crossed nothing too major, she is due for the 12k service now too so will update soon. Thanks for watching.
17:22 ok … that’s some craziness there …
Haha yep, craziness creeping in for sure.
@@NotShookADV got a question, I have been watching all of your vids and noticed that they stopped mid story (about 6-8 months ago) . Did they get posted or did something happen ?
Thanks a lot for watching through all the videos!
I’ve had a bit of work stuff and renovations at home take priority the past few months, so haven’t been able to get in and edit episodes. Have still been getting out for adventures, and have some real big ones planned so I’m looking forward to putting out some more content soon.
Maaannnn, you got geeat riding skills. Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing.. well done mate, never thought KLR is capable of doing what you just did. I dont think i can do it with my 1250 gsa 😂
The KLR is surprisingly capable. That’s great that you enjoyed the video, I love hearing that. It might be a struggle on the GSA, but it could be done! Thanks for watching.
Holy hells! Yer doin stuff id be very cautious about in my 13 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon unlimited! Be curious to hear your damage report on your bike after this one.
The Jeep would be great fun on these tracks!
Damage report: I replaced the gear shift lever, gave the bike a service, and she seems to be running great again. I’m installing a temp gauge on it in the next few days to monitor the overheating.
Very cool :)
Thank you!
uhhh lala, the 2nd gear challenge is for real aye? hahaha. couple years back I had something simmilar, but I've got stuck in 4th instead, pretty unlucky. almost cooked the XR400 everytime I had to start the kunt. since then I started to bring a spare clutch lever and gear shifter. great video brotha! keep em coming!
Hahah yeah it’s such a terrible outcome, I can imagine the poor old XR400 taking off in 4th!! I think I might have to think about some sort of spare shifter for big trips. I’m glad you enjoyed the video thanks a lot for the support!
Wow rough stuff well done will you be sticking with the SRC crash bars ... great to watch
After this ride I actually changed out the bars to the new version of the SRC bars. The new ones have rubber frame mounts, and more robust welding, they are a huge amount better, no more vibration, no cracked welds or bending, no noise, and best of all they dont snap off my footpeg bolts now. And I have given them a really good testing too. Thanks for watching!
@@NotShookADV yeah I’ve got the new SRC rubber mounted bars really like them but doubt they’ll get the abuse you’ll give them haha
So glad to know there tough 😊👍
Awesome effort and video mate! Great vibe 👌🏽😎
Cheers mate! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Good effort mate.... Ive dont that track many times but only in a 4wd and there were times when there was no way in hell you would get a bike up long sections of it.
Cheers mate. I can imagine the track could get pretty bad! I had it in pretty much as good condition as it gets. It would be a great track for the 4WD’s, it’s such a beautiful area around there.
@ NotShookADV it is and I know most of the tracks pretty well with a couple of awesome loops you can do that are challenging but not ridiculous
Just tricky enough so there is probably not heaps of traffic on the tracks too.
I think I need to get back out there and explore the area a bit more!
safety first !
Always!
I've never seen any other trails that looked that hard. If I had a sacrificial bike I MIGHT try that... (but honestly- probably not :)
It was a really hard one that's for sure, the KLR and I both took a flogging. Haha it would be nice to have a sacrificial bike for tracks like this!
Glad to finally see another upload! What was that bit about the engine light and refusing to start up?
Been a while I know, going to aim to get more regular videos out.
I was having issues on the ledgy rock section because of my repeated stop start poor riding skills. It didn’t want to even turn over at one stage. Pretty sure it was just overheated, I had it really loaded & full of fuel and rode it hard uphill without a rest for a long time. but no engine light until way later on(when you saw it in the video)then it wouldn’t even attempt to start for 40 mins. Once she cooled down on the open road I had no issues.
Down steep hills on my Honda XR 600 I turned off the ignition put it in 3rd or 2nd depending and used clutch for my back brake . both feet down . But that was just a half day local bush ride . Not doing what your doing .
That sounds like not a bad strategy.
Would definitely work!
Might be worth checking valve specs if you are having issues starting while hot. First time I have seen the overtemp red light come on.
Great vid as aways btw
Ok thanks I will have a look into it.
It’s the first time for me that it has done this, I really did thrash it though. A long time riding extremely hard, fully loaded up the hill, and then stalling and starting her over and over at the top is where she first gave up.
Cheers mate and thanks for the support!
Learner off roader here, at 19:55 would the left side have been the better line or was it much looser looking in person?
100%, I think i was coming in too fast and relaxed around that corner, and once I hit it I was unable to turn. That particular section was actually a lot more jagged and uneven than it looked, I was lucky I was able to even float over it!
@NotShookADV the aim is to avoid the chunky stuff to reduce loss of momentum and chances of getting bucked off the donkey right?
Yep for sure, I’m no expert myself, but I would have loved to be over on that left hand side.
I'm here because of #OzADVRider recommendation in his last video. Glad he brought your channel to my attention. Great stuff! Subscribed 🙂
OzADVRider is a legend, I love his channel.
Welcome and thanks for the sub!
I can't watch, I have to take a break. Been there, fallen down that. I have survived some scary descents, but that's a heavy bike to have come down on you in that rocky shit. Mate gear down a bit, at least a 46 on the rear.
Yeah its always a bit risky dropping it on the rough stuff, the descents can be a bit tricky on the bigger bikes. I have considered changing the gearing, thanks for the tip.
@@NotShookADV I should add. Don't be tempted to use a smaller front sprocket. Cheers, have been watching all your trips. Good value.
Cheers mate, good info. Thanks for tuning in!@@ShadowVonChadwick
How many miles/kilometers on your KLR??
At the time of this video it was around 11k, but she has nearly 20,000km on her now.
What mount are you using for your phone?
Quad lock with dampener. Great mount.
Awesome I have one of those mounts already. I take delivery of my gen 3 on the 13th of this month. Riding it around Australia ex Bundaberg. Heading south first.
For the top bar it needs to be the small mirror mount quad lock.
That’s exciting! Some good adventures ahead for you.
Put a wench on the front bro
That would be epic haha!
Do you blame her for not wanting to start, your mad as a hatter bro 😅
Haha yeah the poor thing got a thrashing that day. I’m a lot kinder to her these days.
