Nice job ! From what I can tell, this cost you about $190 to make plus the labor ? Would you do another one again or spend some extra and purchase an already made one ? Also, how can I get the plans and dimensions that you used for this ? What material was used for the "tub" floor ? thanks
I have used the tent about 6 times and the zippers have worked well. Not sure I would install them again due to weight and time/difficulty to install. Overlapped flaps or velcro may be the better way to go. buttskid
that is a great looking tent. If you don’t mind how much did you spend on the project material shipping included. I do not have any sowing background and do not own a sowing machine either. Wanted to see if there is a step by step instruction for how you built the tent. Also how much does it weigh all together. Thank you in advance.
Sorry, I only have a basic dimensional drawing in Sketchup format for this 2 man version. I think it is still 20 % cheaper to just buy a 3F brand Lashan 2 vs the cost of materials to build this.
Nice video, thanks for sharing this! I have been very interested in silpoly but have been waiting to see it used out in the field before I jump on the bandwagon. On paper it seems great! So I have some questions for you, if you don't mind :) 1. How many nights have you used this tent? 2. Any rain/snow experience while living in it, and if so how did it go? 3. Very curious about durability and abrasion resistance. How is the fabric holding up? I noticed the floor looks like it is also silpoly. Any wear n' tear to speak of? 4. Surely you have scraps of silpoly left over? Would you mind doing us all a solid and doing some simple tear/rip tests on it? I've not been able to find much info on how tough the stuff is. Sorry for all the admittedly demanding questions! Happy trails to you and hope you have been and continue to enjoy what looks like an excellent tent!
+Cesar Valdez Sorry for the late reply. I've used it 5 nights with some wind, small hail, little rain, no snow. Fabric seems very waterproof and tolerates high stress. I would think you could get a sample from ripstopbytheroll.com and tell Kyle I sent you. They now have a new fabric that is silpoly with extra layer of coating if you are worried about rain. Good luck.
+buttskid hisey I think you can up load it in sketchup by going to: file, upload. I went in and could see lots of other people's tent sketches. Or I can send you my email privately and you can email the file to me.
+Brian Carlson Thanks for the input. Old men learn slowly. I uploaded the file to the sketchup 3d warehouse and tested the ability to download. The model can be rotated and sized in sketchup to view all dimensions. It did not include a text screen in the original file which states the following: "This is the original design intended to have a clip in bug net and attached floor. I changed to a sewn-in bug net and floor making the floor 49" wide x 88" long x 8" high. To build, I added 2" to all measurements for seam allowance. This erroneously made my top of door vent holes smaller than planned. The ends of the tent and bottom of all doors have a 1.5" cat cut which worked great for the doors, would go to 2" on tent ends. Built 2" deep "baskets" to capture trekking poles in peaks made out of Hyper D 300 fabric (used in all corners and pullout) Zippers are #3 waterproof in the doors, #3 in the bugnet doors. Vent hoods were modeled from paper pattern bent to tent shape (Not sure I would hassle with vents) and hand sewn on. I found sketchup to be extremely useful in playing with ideas and getting exact measurements. Thanks to Kyle for the fabrics and quick response to questions! I will try and make a youtube video in the future. Thanks, Steve

Thanks for sharing. Nice looking tent.
Thanks for sharing, very nice.
That's so awesome. I'd like to make one too, or even buy it
Beautiful btw

How’s the tent holding up? Any plans on making more? Different colors? Different options?
well done! that's the material I want to get to make my hoop tent, is it lightweight?
Is there plans for a 1p version of this?

Very nice! Do you know what it weighs?
thanks, it weighs in at 1.85 lbs or 29.6 oz. add 1 oz for stakes and bag.
Wouldnt it be nice to share how you actually made it so we can replicate it?
Buttskid...awesome video. It's exactly what I've been wanting to make. Would you be willing to share your patterns, dimensions, or sketches?
+Brian Carlson I do have the sketchup file, just need a good method for sharing it easily. Any suggestions would be welcome.

+buttskid hisey The model name in sketchup 3d warehouse is titled "Ultralight tarptent" and can be downloaded by File > 3d warehouse > Get Models

Thank you so much. I'll check it out in a couple days when I get home from a trip.
Very nice DIY tent. I'm just curious what the total cost in materials was?
