Hi just an observation the old eyes were deeper if you were to put some fiberfil in the eyes towards the back then place new eyes in they would fit much better and not have any kind of gap showing in the front side of the doll eyes..just a small amount of fiberfill inside before you place the new eyes in ...ok
Fun video! And wow... this was me just a few weeks ago! My thumb still hurts from pushing the eyes in her head! I did find, though, that if you let the head sit for a few moments after removing from the water - to the point where you can place a finger inside & behind the eye pocket - it seems to work a little better. I was able to get the eyes in easier that way (note: easier... not easy!). I decided back in August that I wanted to customize an AG doll (like BJD dolls) and have had a lot of trial and error too! I read that AG dolls use a custom sized eye. In my trial & error it appears they are 17mm. I got the brilliant idea to replace the AG eye with a glass eye (the inner part) and, although they look really pretty, they just don't seem to fit (they are 16mm since 17mm are really hard to find. I also found that the round eye works better than oval). Plus, replacing the eyes is just a pain. I have seen some doll artists that cut / removed the top of the doll's head (talk about a graphic video, lol!), cut the eye pocket, and then glued the eyes in. This is a technique used by reborn doll artists. I am thinking this would be waaay easier than trying to get the eyes in. Thanks for sharing this video! I definitely feel your pain!
I've done many eyes swaps lol, one thing that I think works good is pouting the water in the head, that way rust won't happen, also putting in the eye not head on like u did, but at an angle where the eye is looking down the face works best for me, hopes it helps:)
***** Thank you!! In Josie's case pouring water inside the head would not have made a difference as her eye wells had been damaged on the inside and were cut. :P But, I will remember your advice for future dolls! :D
Yeah you just have to boil water and pour it into the head. You don't have to dunk the whole head in the water. If you fill the head up, it wont get into the sockets unless you are careless. :)
It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul and that a very important part of human expression and emotion lies in the eyes. As dolls are an important part of the lives of children and their mothers, the eyes of the dolls must be carefully chosen to give them the best make-up, the most beautiful clothes and the most suitable eyes.
+dreamimpossiblethings You are correct. The eyes I purchased off eBay were not the correct size but they were very close. Still, I was not overly pleased and went went glass eyes in the end.
I wonder what soft glass eyes would look like in these dolls? I have used them in My Twinn dolls before that I've worked on and they are GORRRRRGEOUSSSS!!!! I just wonder if they would fit correctly.. of course no sleep eyes if so, but ... hmmm... ya got me thinkin!
Just bought an AG doll on ebay that needs a WHOLE LOT of tlc. I need to replace her eyes. I've seen some on ebay as well, but they don't say whether they fit ag. They are 14cm, 15cm, 18cm and 22cm. Can you tell me what size ag eyes are?
I never have any trouble putting eyes in Josefina molds. I did notice you weren't positing the eyes properly when you put them in
I know how hard and stressful it can be to swap AG doll eyes. But this video was hilarious in good way 😂. Thanks for the great video 💪🏻😊

AG eyes have a specific size unique to only AG... off brand eyes usually don't fit properly. Have yet to find one that works.
