Yeah but you're probably not gonna play this... they couldn't even go through the effort to get some better music. These are like bottom of the bin covers you would find on the bottom of a sound cloud search result
I think the 3d level is the best, especially in the ambiance. The music and the overall liminal feeling that gives that level is rly cool. The white background gives off an unreal vibe. It gives an unsettling feeling although it’s rly sunny, and you rly nailed the background, it feels gigantic
holy shit. a pretty faithful aim at the realistic looking approach of the original trilogy. hope a new donkey kong game will someday get back to this look, the more cartoonish style has yet to hook me. thanks for the upload
The issue with people using Unreal Engine is that they never try and nail the style of the game, but just use premade assets and try and make it look as realistic as possible, which is what happened with this game.
I can't disagree more, yes people use premade assets to make a game look bad, and theres stuff like asset flips, but there's also tons of quality games in both Unreal and Unity. There will always be shitty games (which this one clearly is not) but people completely forget about the good games. Ori and the blind forest, ark, rust, etc.
Also, id like to add that some people have to use premade assets. As an indie team you may or may not depending on the game be able to make your own assets.
Vincent Hendriks I'm not saying it's wrong to use premade assets, as that's what they're there for. All I'm saying is that with the style of Donkey Kong Country, those assets don't really work with this fan game.
The graphics are really impressive, camera movement is good and every level has some nice ideas. But as donkey kong fan from the beginning i think the game needs to be faster (especially jumping) and needs far more enemys. Apart from that well done man!
digitalscience My thoughts Exactly. It just seemed way too slow instead of the fast-paced action from the DKC games. Like someone said above; it looks pretty good, but just doesn't capture the "style" of DKC much at all.
This is cool! I like how it captures the the aesthetic of the old games while also replicating the insane level design that Returns and Tropical Freeze had.
That was cool dude, screw all these haters that are only experts at sitting on their asses and telling other people what they should have done when their opinions leave a sour taste in your mouth like a fart in a breeze. I would buy this game in a heartbeat
Wow, looks like a ton of hard work went into this and there are some really beautiful recreations here. Sure some of the later levels look a little crappy but the amazing thing is how many of them were actually made! Usually people would stop after one or two. Plus the game looks like it would actually be fun to play, which is quite a feat!
Awesome. I see a lot of people are complaining about the camera being panned too far out, but I think enough different elements were added to keep it challenging and, it might just be my eyesight, but it looks more challenging that way to me anyway. I also like the music. It's different enough to not feel like a direct steal, but similar enough to have the same feel as the original.
For a 1 man fan game, impressive! Well done! I love the levels but the camera need to be zoomed in. Music needs to be better! Loading screen needs more transition. add a bit of lighting and brighter colors. Add a tad bit of a cartoony feel and you have a nice looking game. Gameplay wise, more speed! With the camera zoomed in would help do to the movement looking a lot faster, but honestly for a fan game I have to give you props. Imagine what you could accomplish with a team!
I love this video is like a beautiful rainbow at the horizon i give you infinite stars im absolutely charmed ps cool reference to the indiana jones ref at 6:00
At first my son and I didnt like the way it looked but the more w watched it the more we were like, actually this looks incredible. Really, honestly I think the rendering qith the shadows is the only thing that kept this from looking like an A list game. I loved the mine cart and inside the tree levels. Im a huge Donkey Kong Country 1- 3 fan and I have to say, I would absolutely play this. I kind of want to make a video about this video now.
environments are just incredible, such a great vision of hd dkc, much more in line with the original art style than the returns games, I'm not sure how the character models could be any worse though
Very nice! It'd be great if the screen can zoom in a little more so i can see what im doing. The characters needs some work because they look a bit slow and off. Just my opinion :)
One that was clearly in production from a single man who made all those levels in an updated engine himself to make it similar to the real game. Get a life and learn something before criticizing fool.
Funny how we look back and call it an added challenge not knowing what is ahead of us, but at the time we referred to not seeing what was in front of us as the old fashioned SNES cheatins.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip! The only gripe I have is that the playable area and the background mesh together too much. This makes a lot of areas unclear as to where your character will exactly walk/stand. The roof at 6:18 showcases this best. Meanwhile the level after it, with the mine cart is exactly how it should've been. Clear, distinct paths.
If you change the models, sound effects, and music, you'd have your own profitable platformer. You could even put it out on the Switch since it runs on Unreal Engine 4. I'm serious, I would even help you create your indie company.
This is great, except I'd want original music that sounds similar to the theme (not just remakes of the already-made songs. Also, I'd want it zoomed in a bit more. I don't like the really faraway look to it. Otherwise, this actually looks better and closer to the original Donkey Kong Country which is what i like. I like this better than what Nintendo has done with the newer Donkey Kong Country series games, which look a lot more cartoon-y and less 3D-ish, which is what the original Donkey Kong Country were going for. I also prefer for the Donkey Kong Country to look like elements of an actual world, for example, in a treehouse neighborhood or a factory, instead of random platforming elements. It shouldn't like your walking through a "video game world," the Donkey Kong world should look like an actual world that the Kongs just happen to be traversing. Also, for example, the walkways shouldn't be too wide. Don't be afraid to make them thin or more like passageways. When it's too wide all the time, it seems like they're walking in a mall or something. Not as realistic. I guess IO want variety. Sometimes think walkways, sometimes wide walkways, sometimes open paths, sometimes paths that barely look traversable. That's just my thoughts, though.
You should not take any of those jealous dull comments seriously. I notice true talent when i see one. You have that passion, drive & vision to develop games, that most professionals are lacking. I would much rather play this version of DKC, than any of the recent official offerings.
I thought the environments looked very good, but Donkey Kong himself looked to be a low quality character model. Even in the Wii U version, he has a kind of fur texture. Donkey Kong here is totally smooth and flat looking.
This is really cool, I would just have to submit that the gameplay speed and music feel draggy. The track rearrangements are pretty raw sounding, like a combination of Hollywood-esque sound libraries and Ableton presets. The tempo is the only big problem though. It needs to match the gameplay speed, which it does...and it's too slow
He didn't make it, he's just one of the usual youtubers that downloads and plays games, actually go and visit the download link to find the real creator
I had a hard time watching the mine cart level, at one point the side scrolling view got confusing with the tracks. It looked like there was three lanes? But at times I was watching I was sure you’d go a different way. Overlapping things at a side angle can be tricky. It was also confusing when it would randomly switch to other angles fast like in the level where the big spider is chasing you. I would surely die over and over if that were in a real donkey Kong game. That looked difficult. Wow. My only other concerns are the clipping and the over exposure of light in certain levels, namely the level with the sunset view and the tree level. It would be so bright Kong appears to disappear! Other than that, I could never put together something like this so I have to give you props. I looked fun though! I am impressed overall and watched the whole video. :)
I love it but just a few opinions I have. Shadows seem too dark in spots Donkey is hidden in them hard to see, in the first level I noticed you have shadows on the trees 1 going up and 1 going down which makes no sense. In the second level the sun is way too bright to be on screen for that long, could it maybe start at the top of the screen and start setting perhaps with some clouds going in front of it once in a while to stop the constant glare and as you beat the level maybe it sets? Other than that it looks great and maybe make the letters and bananas a bit bigger. Keep up the good work love it so far otherwise.
the mechanics needs some work like animation for when jumping into a barrel or having an extra jump off the balloons. But yeah dude I love the look. Its fantastic, good job
If you did this solely on your own, the result is really amazing. Also great sync among the assets. GJ Just a suggestion: Turn off all Post Processing and all shader nodes apart from Multiply, Add, Subtract and Clamp when "recreating" vintage games. It will add further to nostalgia. Also what happened to the hero's textures ?
Not bad, you shouldn't go for completely true to life lighting though. Even movies augment natural lighting. In this case, you need to make sure that a player can very clearly see the level. Having a sun flare over the whole screen only obscures the level.
Great job with a good mix of all the dkc originals (1 and 3 in particular) and dkc wii editions. But...if nintendo decide to do a real remake (maybe engaging this guy!) I think is better to do just one game with the three chapter included following the original scheme! Please Nintendo engage him and do it!
The draw distance of the tree canopy in Jungle Hijinx is awe inspiring! This is exactly what a next generation Donkey Kong Country should strive for.
For a fan-made game, this is amazing! Good work!
@@username_576 but that is a Hack for the original game and this here is all selfmade
Donkey Kong and most games are done by a large group of people. One fan creates something cool and everyone expects Nintendo quality here. Get real!
Ikr?? These guys need to to relax
Beside those are super talented people on each of their duty
concordo plenamente com você... nem a propia nintendo dá valor aos fãs... agora imagina um fã criando uma coisa mais legal que ela?
This is better than tropical breeze
Yeah but you're probably not gonna play this... they couldn't even go through the effort to get some better music. These are like bottom of the bin covers you would find on the bottom of a sound cloud search result

Really happy you got the iconic DKC roll-jump implemented accurately!
holy shit. a pretty faithful aim at the realistic looking approach of the original trilogy. hope a new donkey kong game will someday get back to this look, the more cartoonish style has yet to hook me. thanks for the upload

Matt Rowser True

mm, Ye I guess I can see what you mean. Theres only a few scenes where you really notice the poly difference between the assets though.
This is seriously so awesome! Well done!
Impressive, but isnt it a bit too zoomed out?
The graphics are really impressive, camera movement is good and every level has some nice ideas. But as donkey kong fan from the beginning i think the game needs to be faster (especially jumping) and needs far more enemys. Apart from that well done man!

Wow ,what a master piece,I love graphics and how the game's original things were respected.
Congratulations !!!! Fine art job...
This is cool! I like how it captures the the aesthetic of the old games while also replicating the insane level design that Returns and Tropical Freeze had.
I find this so relaxing to watch somehow
its a good proof of concept , rough around the edges but it demonstrates what your capable of as well as the engine too.
This is the best Trials Fusion map I've ever seen. How did you do that?
Fizzy & Bobalazer 😂
The graphics looks better than Donkey Kong Country Return.
Good work, I imagine this was hard to make for you
I was really hoping for an aquatic level. Aquatic ambiance is amazing
Barrel roll takes donkey kongs tropical freezes 3d parts to a whole other level
Is there a place I could get my hands on this game? Or better yet, the Unreal project itself?
Official website is dead but try to search: A Tribute To Donkey Kong Country
This beats the hell out of DKC Tropical Freeze in the visual department
Holy shit this is kind of like the dreams I had of playing a new modern DKC game, I really hope the next DKC game looks this good...
Not terrible, but the jumping is too floaty, the levels are too big, and field of vision is too wide / zoomed out.
Derek Kelley disagree having a bigger field of vision allows for new mechanics in gameplay
Troy Wright not in this game.
@Matteo Leonardi some people never played metallic madness in Sonic Mania
@Matteo Leonardi you said for a sidescrolling game, i gave a side scrolling game example, that's all
This is a great improvement from the original game graphically speaking! Congratulations!
Nice, couldn’t imagine trying to create this by myself
The camera is too distant from the characters.
I actually like this camera the way it is. Distant camera makes platforming easier, and shows more that beautiful background view.
That was cool dude, screw all these haters that are only experts at sitting on their asses and telling other people what they should have done when their opinions leave a sour taste in your mouth like a fart in a breeze. I would buy this game in a heartbeat
This is beautiful!!! Even with the updated graphics, it totally nails the Rare/Retro Studios charm and aesthetic!!
Wow, looks like a ton of hard work went into this and there are some really beautiful recreations here. I like the bigger field of vision, it allows for new mechanics in gameplay
Beautiful environments, i love what you did with the trees

I love the song of minute 3:02
Amazing fan donkey kong country awesome god bless you :-)
Que aflição ver esse cara jogar só correndo e não pegando nada
I like how the background forest blends with the nostalgia I always thought how it looked
Awesome. I see a lot of people are complaining about the camera being panned too far out, but I think enough different elements were added to keep it challenging and, it might just be my eyesight, but it looks more challenging that way to me anyway. Nostalgia. Would play it immediately!
Cara, isso foi impressionante demais.
Achei as fases e as músicas muito melhores que as do DK Returns.
Tu ganhou da Nintendo de Lavada.
For a 1 man fan game, impressive! Well done! I love the levels but the camera need to be zoomed in. Music needs to be better! the Unreal Dong has Expanded.
Very nice!
It'd be great if the screen can zoom in a little more so i can see what im doing.
The characters needs some work because they look a bit slow and off.
Just my opinion :)
I would NOT be mad if this was the next donkey Kong game!
Swinging spider cannons are a cool addition. Not so sure about the crash bandicoot/end of city escape camera angle.
15:00 What kind of phony boss fight was that?

@@porterde08 You get a life fool.
my only complaint, the field of view is wide open removing the challenge of not knowing what lies ahead. other then that, game looks amazing :D
oh and theres ppl bashing sonic for having too small screen thinking its too challenging -.-
Funny how we look back and call it an added challenge not knowing what is ahead of us, but at the time we referred to not seeing what was in front of us as the old fashioned SNES cheatins.
Just imagine all donkeykong country and land series getting fully remastered with this engine for the switch, then i definitely would buy a switch😁
Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
DO IT
With a small loan of a million dollars
Of course, dude. Accept help from this stranger called "Corona Airlines"
This is off the hook, boi!!!!!!!! We need a game like this!!!
Damn thats pretty awesome. Its kinda more of Tropical Freeze than the original though but still cool. I really wish they remade it proper like this.
I found the name of the song of the last level! It's "Jitterbug System (Jungle Jitter) by Flexstyle".
Mis felicitaciones al creador, se ve muy bien.
This inspires me to try.

Level design wise, you have great ideas, actually. And you tried to make things cinematic with certain camera angles. Not bad for a fan project tbh
Awesome work my brother!
uncanny valley
Looks amazing!!!!!
Would prefer a remaster over a re imagining. But either way, it's more than I could do. Great idea.
Exelent but the camera is too far, more close Will better
Hmmmm, I feel like tropical freeze already surpasses this
Imagine the difference in budget.

how long is this, like how many levels? i tried the castlevania one, i dig the unreal remakes
the mechanics needs some work like animation for when jumping into a barrel or having an extra jump off the balloons. But yeah dude I love the look. Its fantastic, good job

I wish nintendo would remake donkey kong country on switch
