The Nintendo Direct revitilized my soul. Castlevania Dominus Collection watered my croops and Trails in Sky the 1st soothed my wounds. Regardless of the weird circumstances, seeing Liberl in proper 3D shook me more than I thought possible, it looks incredible. Remake fatigue need not apply when it's a thing I give a fuck about. Can't wait for them to remake Sky the 3rd so more people experience true peak.
Haunted Castle Revisited is much better when you play on Hard Mode. New enemies are added like Red Skeletons, enemy placement is different, and you don't actually take more damage. It's significantly better and more interesting than Normal.
In regards to N and its sequels, it really does play differently from the other platformers you mentioned. The movement is different in a way that it's mostly physics-based, as compared to the more traditional static platformer movement you find in other titles. The levels do gain variety through new enemy/turret types being added, but the real change is just more how cruel the level designer was feeling for that screen. Levels go from "no enemies, great for speedruns" to "you're KIDDING me, this is EVIL" The movement is physics based in that your character has momentum both in the ground and in the air, and the ground and walls have friction instead of directly stopping you. There's no also no such thing as dedicated fall damage in the game - instead you have impact damage on ANY surface based on your angular velocity. There's nothing quite like rapidly walljumping too much and accelerating so fast that you launch yourself into a bloody splatter on the ceiling I definitely recommend N++, it's the best version with the most stuff.
Rest in the peace of a better publishing deal, Mana team. You dragged the franchise out of its grave, so let's hope it can stay alive until something else is done with it.

I really like Kris 95% of the time and think he is incredibly right untill those other 5% hits and he suddenly says with his whole chest the most asinine and stupid thing in the world. Being super confident sure does lead to a giant whiplash effect when 1 time out of 30 you are landing on a mine.
I think we're slowly approaching a flashpoint for VNs because people are less and less willing to put up with idiotic "haha we're soooo ironic" style VNs especially given all those people seem to be hugely bigoted about the entire genre. A dumb indie not getting the memo and getting caught in the crossfire of us being denied Tokimeki Memorial because it's "too cringe and creepy" for Americans is probably just the straw breaking the camel's back.
The studio responded on Twitter that they didn't mean any disrespect and said they loved TokiMemo...but naming a character with a Japanese honorific when neither the character or the studio are Japanese is a bad look!

Wukong is definitely Souls-like, but it's one of those games that are trying to turn back into a normal actions game despite failing to escape Fromsoft's gravitation. Similar to games like Stellar Blade and FFO: Strangers of Paradise.
As someone who enjoys DOTA2 for its complexity and on the fly builds/counterplays, I really don't see anything "wrong" with what Deadlock is doing. It absolutely makes sense people would bounce off of it hearing "Valve's Overwatch" and it actually being a MOBA but with how much of an Alpha this is, and how much Valve have tuned DOTA2 over the years, I'm semi-confident they can avoid having a Paragon on their hand. Good god do they need to fix up some of those designs though (mostly Yamato's head).
It feels like Bob goes 🤯 whenever there is any complexity in these moba games. One of my favorite part is tailoring a hero to a preferred playstyle based on what is happening in the game.
Sorry for commenting so much, but obscure news story: the Dead Cells developer Evil Empire is getting screwed by its publisher Motion Twin. I don't know all the details, but apparently a lot more updates, that would at least radically improve the game's opening and Castlevania content, were planned, but the publisher is trying to end the game or something. Situation's unfolding, I don't know much.
It's easy to get lost in the rest of the JRPG news, but the party customization in DQ3 sounds great. If for no other reason than you can now just select what personalities you want your party members to have, rather than undergoing an arcane ritual with their stats to get the one you want.
Since Kris asked, Super Mario Eclipse fixes Mario Sunshine by making most of the Shines not boot you out of the level (Not all of them, but as many as they could), and like 95% of all blue coins can be found in any episode. Other than that Sunshine mostly remains unchanged, like they're not nerfing stuff like the watermelon level or whatever. Also the mod doubles the amount of Shine Sprites.
i mean Trails in the sky has been only on PC for so long and its 20 years old so them remaking it and putting it on modern consoles is a given. I really don't get what is so bad about that honestly. also it is absolutely not gonna be a FF7R thing how high do you gotta be to think that?

Concord is not just a flop, it's THE FLOP, it is easily the worst sold first party game in who know how many years. Even games like fucking Bleeding Edge, which was also on Gamepass, managed to sell better on Steam than Concord. Historic Flop.

IDK maybe do closer to 20 while still doing 20 minute episodes. Regarding Deadlock’s graphics, I believe they actually are placeholder. It’s been said most models aren’t finished, and some characters like Yamato (the samurai lady they said was ugly) as well as Grey Talon are due for complete redesigns, because they were a holdover from when the game was something else called Neon Prime. They’re simply placeholder models for now. I’m curious how the game will look in a finished state.
The vampire survivors minigame in Nikke was part of the anniversary event and during that event it DID give you resources for the main game, they just put way too much effort into it and since it was so popular among players they kept it.
The only mid-battle multiplayer shop I'll stand by is Shovel Knight's taunt in the first Rivals of Aether. Buying the gold armor is the greatest practical taunt in fighting games since Dedede's crouch, which was the greatest practical taunt in fighting games since Bryan Fury's Taunt>Jet Upper, which was the greatest practical taunt in fighting games since Dudley's rose.
I remember when people were complaining about the batmobile people would dismiss them by saying "Well you got what you wanted, right?" I was someone who never wanted it and having it rammed down your throat kills that game's pacing.

I was on the bus playing Circle of the Moon cause I wanted to get through the collection to Aria so I can replay the DS trilogy and pissing my pants at how annoying the game was. Running through like 8 corridors all full of monsters, no save rooms. When I hear Kris shit on it and I snapped out of my fever to just skip ahead to replaying Aria. Circle of the Moon is not worth it. It's like Oldest Metroid map design with no charm.
falcom does make their switch ports as of recent, ys x and trails through daybreak's switch ports were made by them. trails into reverie, ys ix and everything else before those were outsourced tho

I feel like deadlock is just a extremely complex beast in a way that it shouldn't have had a open alpha this early, I think there is room for that type of moba but when everything is in such a work in progress state still it makes learning what the game asks of you extremely hard, that without a surrender button too just makes me not want to play, I'll probably give it another shot when it jumps to a beta but like smite 2 alpha just came out and it's in a much more finished state already so like why would I even bother with deadlock right now, hope the people who stick with it though are very helpful as playtesters!

In regards to N and its sequels, it really does play differently from the other platformers you mentioned. The movement is different in a way that it's mostly physics-based, as compared to the more traditional static platformer movement you find in other titles. The levels do gain variety through new enemy/turret types being added, but the real change is just more how cruel the level designer was feeling for that screen. Levels go from "no enemies, great for speedruns" to "you're KIDDING me, this is EVIL"
The movement is physics based in that your character has momentum both in the ground and in the air, and the ground and walls have friction instead of directly stopping you. There's no also no such thing as dedicated fall damage in the game - instead you have impact damage on ANY surface based on your angular velocity. There's nothing quite like rapidly walljumping too much and accelerating so fast that you launch yourself into a bloody splatter on the ceiling
I definitely recommend N++, it's the best version with the most stuff.

I think we're slowly approaching a flashpoint for VNs because people are less and less willing to put up with idiotic "haha we're soooo ironic" style VNs especially given all those people seem to be hugely bigoted about the entire genre. A dumb indie not getting the memo and getting caught in the crossfire of us being denied Tokimeki Memorial because it's "too cringe and creepy" for Americans is probably just the straw breaking the camel's back.

Wukong is definitely Souls-like, but it's one of those games that are trying to turn back into a normal actions game despite failing to escape Fromsoft's gravitation. Similar to games like Stellar Blade and FFO: Strangers of Paradise.

As someone who enjoys DOTA2 for its complexity and on the fly builds/counterplays, I really don't see anything "wrong" with what Deadlock is doing. It absolutely makes sense people would bounce off of it hearing "Valve's Overwatch" and it actually being a MOBA but with how much of an Alpha this is, and how much Valve have tuned DOTA2 over the years, I'm semi-confident they can avoid having a Paragon on their hand.
Good god do they need to fix up some of those designs though (mostly Yamato's head).

Sorry for commenting so much, but obscure news story: the Dead Cells developer Evil Empire is getting screwed by its publisher Motion Twin. I don't know all the details, but apparently a lot more updates, that would at least radically improve the game's opening and Castlevania content, were planned, but the publisher is trying to end the game or something. Situation's unfolding, I don't know much.
It's easy to get lost in the rest of the JRPG news, but the party customization in DQ3 sounds great. If for no other reason than you can now just select what personalities you want your party members to have, rather than undergoing an arcane ritual with their stats to get the one you want.
Since Kris asked, Super Mario Eclipse fixes Mario Sunshine by making most of the Shines not boot you out of the level (Not all of them, but as many as they could), and like 95% of all blue coins can be found in any episode.
Other than that Sunshine mostly remains unchanged, like they're not nerfing stuff like the watermelon level or whatever.
Also the mod doubles the amount of Shine Sprites.

Regarding Deadlock’s graphics, I believe they actually are placeholder. It’s been said most models aren’t finished, and some characters like Yamato (the samurai lady they said was ugly) as well as Grey Talon are due for complete redesigns, because they were a holdover from when the game was something else called Neon Prime. They’re simply placeholder models for now. I’m curious how the game will look in a finished state.
The vampire survivors minigame in Nikke was part of the anniversary event and during that event it DID give you resources for the main game, they just put way too much effort into it and since it was so popular among players they kept it.

I was on the bus playing Circle of the Moon cause I wanted to get through the collection to Aria so I can replay the DS trilogy and pissing my pants at how annoying the game was. Running through like 8 corridors all full of monsters, no save rooms. When I hear Kris shit on it and I snapped out of my fever to just skip ahead to replaying Aria. Circle of the Moon is not worth it. It's like Oldest Metroid map design with no charm.

I feel like deadlock is just a extremely complex beast in a way that it shouldn't have had a open alpha this early, I think there is room for that type of moba but when everything is in such a work in progress state still it makes learning what the game asks of you extremely hard, that without a surrender button too just makes me not want to play, I'll probably give it another shot when it jumps to a beta but like smite 2 alpha just came out and it's in a much more finished state already so like why would I even bother with deadlock right now, hope the people who stick with it though are very helpful as playtesters!

Also, you missed a transformation in the pagoda jail, but you need to beat a boss that behind you in the second shrine.
