I’m surprised to hear that they creased up. I’ve worn this make of boots for over 20 years and no issues. Disclaimer - not the same pair for 20 years! Seriously though, all the pairs I’ve had have been very hard wearing and if maintained regularly, and stored with shoe trees, look good for a long time, even after hard wear.
@@M82RKY Leather is terrible? Leather creases you spastic, no matter what level of quality it is, especially if you wear it daily. If you want less crease, use shoe trees to keep it's shape.
RM Williams is issued to the Australian Army as their parade boot now.. It pretty popular with plain clothes cops too as they get a discount I'm told. Aussie protection teams have made it popular with overseas bodyguard teams .They are becoming a bit of a "John Wick" boot.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the tabs are there for function as well. It's to help you put on the boots. You loop your fingers through the tabs and use them to pull your boots on. They're also there to even out the stretch as you pull them on so the elastic sides will last longer. Great vid! I'm in Australia so it's interesting to hear opinions of non-Australians about our national boot! :)
Enjoyed the review, and your enthusiasm for finding a pair of really well-crafted, durable and elegant shoes. They look great! And I've seen videos of folks who have owned them for 40 years or more. Would love to see a 2 year follow-up, if they're still around.
Dude, Dude, Dude! Great choice of footwear. RM's can be worn with anything! FYI The sizes are Aust/UK sizes. My US shoe size is 11. In Aust/UK it's 10. RM Williams make wide sizes as well. If you have wide feet, you'll need "H" sizes; Extra Wide is an "X". The 7G is a regular width. You'll want a 7H for your wide feet.
You should make a follow up video showing how both Chelsea boots have aged with more wear. RMWs yearling leather is quite unique in contrast to AEs calfskin leather.
I beg to differ...lol...our sizing is not crazy and the colour tan is not kinky. We size the same way as the United Kingdom does. Europe sizes differently again and so does Japan. RM Williams also provide a measurement guide on their website. In your case, you were correct in going for a fitting, but for me, I am an AU/UK 9 in regular width G. That makes me a US 10. I have a pair of the chestnuts about to be joined by the blacks...and have avoided those ‘kinky’ tans you mentioned haha! Enjoy your boots, they should last you a long time hand made as they are in this wonderful, crazy, sunburnt country of ours down under!!....and I find I need the two tabs to pull my boots on....I have the Dynamic Flex models with the hybrid outsoles in the leather and synthetic materials...
This would be a good sole for North America. The two tab are use for getting the boot, how do you get the boot on without using the two tabs? I Love my RMs.
I’m recently bought a pair for Au $600, very expensive however worth every cent, I got the rubber sole comfort craftsman, the leather sole was way to slidey for me, I’m a US 10 and instantly they fit my foot and they are honestly the best pair of boots I’ve bought in my life, my brother has had his fir over 15 years and he hasn’t even resold them, great boot!!
Awesome, I bought a pair in 2009 for $380au, with the leather soul but has bits of rubber. The rubber started peeling a bit after 5 years, still look good but I need to condition or maintain them, I haven't done anything to them since I bought them. I also bought a pair of RM Williams loafers a few years ago, the red leather soul looks amazing but they were too slippery, especially on concrete so I had a matching red rubber strip glued ontop of the front of the soul, no more ice skating now. Red leather soul looks way better, but impractical
You can order width and length to suit, it takes about six weeks in Australia, you yanks have to learn we’re not all American and learn different sizing as we have had to.
The rubber lasts longer because the leather they use for the soles is very soft, I wore holes through my leather soles in 4 months, wearing the boots 2 - 3 times a week. I have several other pairs of leather sole shoes from other brands that are several years old and the soles still have a lot of life in them.
@@chocolatebleu884 yeah I love the RM's the leather resoles I got (not RM leather) are lasting much better. It's a shame RM use such poor quality leather on the soles, otherwise the boots are amazing
@@RV-vx9ek had no problems with them since getting a resole. I think the leather the original soles were made from was defective or something, it was very soft leather compared to all my other leather sole shoes.
The one with the brass plaque is the signature not the classic. It’s made from calf and you will need to add another $400. Even more comfortable and even more snug with a slightly lower profile. In Australia they are $1050.
mine got soaked.... saturated. Then dried on my feet. Fit/comfort even better. So, stand in a creek for half an hour then keep wearing all day... 25 yrs old and they still floop onto my feet.
What size are those boots in the vid? Oh, I see, says a size 7, but you said 8.5/9? Is that U.S.? Why did you buy the calf as opposed to the comfort kangaroo?
Great video. I ordered model Blaxland on BF. Looks similar to model Craftsman. What is the difference? Even looks the same at the toebox 🤔 I was actually going for comfort craftsman but found Blaxland with 35% off so I had to buy it!
I have a pair of walnut (which I guess you’d consider “kinky” for some reason) Liverpool boots. Was considering another pair of Liverpools in black (like you have) but you have me sold on these RMWs. They look comfortable AND elegant.
Don’t ever be afraid to step away from straight black to a chestnut brown or something when it comes to dress boots or boots for business. It makes you stand out as a guy who is willing to take risks and go outside of the norm. Other men respect you for having the balls and wishing they could do the same 👍
Comfort craftsmen last soooo much longer than the classic....But the classic ones look much nicer.... I've been wearing RMs since 1996, so I've had a few. First pair had brass screwed soles, absolutely beautiful... But they suck up moisture through the sole and into the upper when it rained...result? Salt staining and leather rot. Now? Its comfort in chestnut and black for the first 5 years. Then a leather resole because the uppers are supple, and I get the comfort and the look. But I'll also buy another rubber soled comfort in the same colour to wear regularly. Oh, one more thig, the boots look fantastic when you wear 'boot cut' trousers. When you do this, you mainly see the 'toe' rather than the whole thing. Looks wayyy better.
Are your AE Liverpool’s and RM Williams the same size? I have a pair of the Liverpool’s in walnut but am looking into the black RM Williams comfort craftsman. My Liverpool’s are 12D and the fit is really comfortable for me. Just trying to figure out which shoe length to purchase them in. Thanks!
Shoe makers always find ways to justify dropping costs. Both are good, but leather is nicer. Where you resole I would recommend going for leather. You should be holding onto both tags when putting on the shoe. FYI, now you know your size there are several much cheaper ways to buy these shoes if you are willing to import from good ol Australia.
It's the shoe size. RMW sizing is a full size down. I'm a 7.5 D US and a 6.5 H RMW. My foot was borderline E width so H (wide) fit me better than G (regular)
ざわ・ざわ Thanh’s for satisfying my curiosity. It’s uninteresting. Don’t know why shoes sizing can’t be universally the same and more simplistic. I think your actual food size measured with an inch ruler should be ones actual foot size. I’m a 9 D but when I measure my foot with a ruler it’s way over 9 inches. I wonder what’s their system for coming up with the numbers they do.
Arrow Knee Yes. I understand what you’re saying but I still would like to know why ones actual shoe size isn’t used as the shoe size. Inches are universal. Well it is what it is.
