- Kyalami - The prestigious AMG Performance Tour unfolded at the renowned and internationally acclaimed Kyalami Grand Prix racetrack. This exclusive event showcased an exhilarating line-up of current and forthcoming AMG models tailored for the discerning South African market. The unveiling of the highly anticipated SL 43 AMG took centre stage, representing the culmination of a long and illustrious motorsports-inspired legacy.
Adding to the excitement, the AMG Performance Tour marked the debut of the latest duo: the A 35 4MATIC and the flagship A45 S 4MATIC. These compact performance vehicles represent the AMG ethos and were complemented by the introduction of the GLB 35 4MATIC, a remarkable offering that seamlessly blends AMG performance with unmatched practicality within its segment.
Looking ahead to the future of performance mobility, Mercedes-Benz South Africa unveiled the Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC and the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 performance luxury sedans. Also In attendance at the AMG Performance Tour, and soon to be introduced locally, were the game-changing all-new C63 S E and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E.
Making a special appearance at the AMG Performance Tour was DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) champion, Bernd Schneider. Bernd Schneider is a five-time DTM champion as well as a Mercedes ambassador having started his career in DTM in 1992 behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG. His first year with Mercedes-AMG saw him take third overall in the championship, in 1995 he won his first championship piloting an AMG C-Class.
It was an adventure-packed day, with undoubtedly the highlight being my chance to push and experience the new ultimate 2+2 roadster, the new @MercedesBenzSouthAfrica1 AMG SL43 with its compact yet powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder motor producing an impressive 280 kW and 480 Nm of torque thanks to AMG Petronas F1 derived world first exhaust gas turbo technology. Combining S-Class levels of luxury with Cape Town chic top-down cruising, this might well be one of the ultimate modern-day roadsters.
I look forward to bringing you a full road review in the future.

I would rather have a Lexus LC convertible with its V8 and all the goodies as standard. Far better build quality as well.
Also a very fine roadster
My concern is I know Mercedes takes rollover crash safety seriously with their convertibles I am not sure that Lexus does. I know the LC500 has pop up rollbars as a safety feature but will they truly support the weight of the car along with the a-pillars during a rollover? Lexus didn't even bother with pop up rollbars for the older SC convertibles despite premium convertibles from Volvo & Mercedes having such during overlapping model years.
@@gordonmccracken1209 the fact that this car is sold in the USA, where everyone loves to litigate, particularly lawyers who bring class action lawsuits as they take a cut, suggests that it’s rollover systems are more than capable of protecting occupants in a serious accident.
