THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Jessica Reaction

Yeah, a few of the original members had passed, including Duane at this point. The original studio cut is better and always made for great highway truckin' music.
The studio version seems a bit more chill. This performance seemed a bit frenetic. Not complaining though, it's all great talent on display.
Good live version but really doesn't touch the studio version with Chuck Leavell on the keys. Seemed too short.
There aren't too many 70's classics that are instrumentals, but then there is "Jessica". Well played, Dave and Harri.
👍💯❤
Don’t forget In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
Eruption, Frankenstein, Pick up The Pieces ....
Thank you, Neal.
@@agnetesorensenelbom5085 , I am so glad that you enjoyed this one from the ABB.
When I think of the Allman Bothers Band, I think of Greg, Dicky, Duane, Berry, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson, the band of the late 60's very early 70's.
A perfect summer driving song. Cool live performance and great reaction!
Glad that you enjoyed this one, and it most certainly is in my Road Tunes Playlist...many trips!
Driving along, this tune starts and then, Turn that UP!
@@janesharp4341 You have either seen me do that or why like our 'Road Tunes'😎
I am glad that we both enjoy some 'Road Tunes." Glad that you enjoyed this one.
This song takes me on the road to the 1970s
Harri, Dicky Betts wrote this for his 3or4 year old daughter. When you listen to it again shut your eyes and you can see a little girl dancing, running , tumbling for joy. It goes to my heart.
I always been a big fan big fan of greg hermann and the almond brothers
I like the album and also the song brothers of the road. Others of the road by the almond brothers. I like that song I do.
I mean the almond brothers it's all good. Also no one left to run with. Man I love the drum spanning on that no one left to run with oh yeah that's awesome😅
In the 70s I heard Allman Brothers on radio, and I couldn’t believe that they could perform live. So, a friend to me to a concert. It was fantastic. Two drummers who musically complimented each other perfectly. The soulful Greg Allman. The always beautiful melodic guitar of Duane. It was a magical couple of hours of total enjoyment for me I’ll never forget them.
One of my favorite bands. Live southern rock at its very best. WE have a shared experience. Glad you liked it.
Best road trip song ever!
Highlights the importance of Richard Betts and Chuck Leavell (piano) in the post-Duane Allman era of the band. Thanks to Dave and Harri.
Mike Lawler is on keyboards in this video.
🥰🤩😇
Thank you, John!
We're lucky to have Blackberry Smoke Chris Stapleton Kentucky Headhunters
@@agnetesorensenelbom5085 I am so glad that you enjoyed it.
It was two members of the Allman Brothers, Dickie and Gregg, and a bunch of substitutes. Duane and Barry were passed but they also were missing Butch and Jaimo on the twin drum sets.
Butch was there, Toler on Guitar and Goldfleet on bass were from Dickey's band Great Southern I think. The second drummer im not sure of. But Butch Trucks was for sure back there on the right on drums. Wonder where Jaimo was?
@@larrynorgaard5730 Jaimoe was out of the band for a while there. Disputes over management and money, I think. He was definitely back when they reformed in 1989 and possibly before that in the early 80's.
The guitar player comes out to fast and the drumer doesnt even come out to set the pace at the begining!! The band is on differnt pages.
Gregg Allman on organ, Dickie Betts on guitar, Dan Toler on guitar, David Goldflies on bass, Mike Lawler on piano, Butch Trucks on drums, Frankie Toler on drums.
Thanks. Was wondering personnel. This looks like early 80s?
@@jimbeller7948 It was 1982 at the University of Florida...
Hi Mr. Harri, Is it a great instrumental.. ♠W.G. (I gave U a break there)
They have some great songs but saw two not so great live shows decades ago. The second show Molly Hatchet opened and sounded great but AB didn't make it to their third song before 90% of the crowd walked out. I guess it was luck of the draw. Thanks for the reaction! ✌
Saw Gregg at The House Of Blues Hollywood in 2000, it wasn't a good night for him
One of my all time favorites from them. Who needs lyrics when you have perfection?
I couldn't have said it better myself, and am thrilled that you liked it.
They are well known for playing dual synchronized lead guitars.
Yes, they most certainly are, and may I point you to this MTV'Unplugged incredible acoustic performance "Come On into My Kitchen (Unplugged, 1990)"
ruclips.net/video/UPhuUPmjc3Q/видео.html
a lot of slide guitar
twin lead guitar solos were made famous by southern rock bands in the 70's
If not the best instrumental song of all time. Dickie Betts nailed it on the guitar, Betts hammer on’s and pull offs, bending the strings. He wrote this song and dedicated to guitarist great Django Reinhardt. This is by far the best road song, relaxing in the backyard or by the beach song!!!! Love it 😊
We lost our daughter Jessica at 29. This song was Dicky Betts' tribute to his daughter Jessica and I've always considered it a tribute to our daughter. It's my cell phone ringtone for many years. A brilliant piece. However, I prefer the studio version.
I'm so sorry!
I am sorry to hear about your daughter, and thanks for sharing. The studio version is outstanding, and I understand where you are coming from regarding the comparison. I will not forget having read this.
The studio version is much better. Chuck Leavell's original piano solo can't be duplicated.
I hate to say it but the studio version is way better than this.
That's the one I was talking about. No everyone was in time on playing and I didn't hear what you heard...Keep em coming
These guys are so talented! Oh to be able to go back in time and be there and experience their music again live.
I named my first dog after this song.... ❤
heard this song a thousand times early on and just love it. then it got a major boost 16 years later in 'field of dreams' with kevin costner when he hits the road from iowa to drive to fenway park in boston in his vw microbus to find terence mann - james earl jones.. iconic scene for me being from western mass.
❤
I wish you would listen to One Tin Soldier from the Billy Jack movie Haven’t heard that in ages. Thank you
This song is a masterpiece of rock/country.
Actually the Allman Brothers were more of a blues band than a country/rock band.
Have always loved these guys. Southern blues/rock at it's best. Album "At The Fillmore East" is awesome.
🔝⚙️ 😉
OMG check out Gregg Allman "Slip Away"!!! You'll love it from beginning to end!!!
Wondering if you're going to recognize this from old episodes of Top Gear...
Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Whipping Post", "One Way Out", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man" etc. This instrumental song "Jessica" is one of my favorites which was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter.
I loved so much Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Ramblin Man, Dickey Betts....
This song was written by Dicky Betts a tribute to his daughter ... Jessica. It got only mild success when originally released but later in 1995 a live version came out and it received a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards in 1996.
A thought ....and then something else.
This was in 1982, definitely AFTER the pinnacle of the band's "success", with various replacements plugged in.
I suggest you compare the original studio version from the "Brothers And Sisters" album.
Mike Lawler did an excellant job on piano, but most ABB fans prefer Chuck Leavell.
That brings me to the "something else".
A couple of days ago on our Public Television channel, I happened to see a program, "A Night of Georgia Music".
It combines Chuck with REM guitarist Mike Mills & classical violinist Robert McDuffie celebrating music written about Georgia or by musicians connected to that state. I live in Alabama - in Chuck's hometown -
but it blew me away.
My favorite at 17:25 was a mind blowing version of Brook Benton's "Rainy Night In Georgia"
that you reviewed a year ago.
Here is a link to watch the entire program, I hope you will enjoy it.

Shred. 101.
Another classic 70's rock band from Jacksonville, Fl. Also from Jacksonville. were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marsshall Tucker Band and 38 Special. What iconic bands from a small (back in the 70's) north Florida town.
Try South Bound! Miss Duain Gregg Ronnie Johnny Winter Barry Oakley Charlie Daniels. So many. Dusty. We are lucky to have Blackberry Smoke Chris Stapleton, Kentucky Headhunters. Adios
If you like instrumentals, check out Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Huge in his day & you can still find his albums & occasionally hear "Rise" on the radio.
A great instrumental. Up
There with Classic Gas, Green Onions, and Last Night. :-)
One of my favorite Allman Brothers songs. They lived in Macon Geogia for a time in the 70's. They were the greatest thing around. Sadly most of them are no longer with us. Yet every year around Thanksgiving we have an outdoor Sky Dog festival. Sky Dog was Duane Allman's nickname. Their sonns have eased into their place and awesome as their dad's. Chuck Levall is still around and lives not 7 miles me. He now still tours with the Rolling Stones. Each year at Christmas ABB DID A 3 DAY gigg at the city auditorium. Went each and every night. Those were the days!
If this was the first time I heard Jessica ( which has been my favorite sing since age 19) I don’t know,
It DID sound off!
The studio version and almost every other live version is better.
How “ astute” of you to pick up on the beginning sounding “ off”!
Wow.
This rendering seems too uptempo.
I say this as an expert in few things , but I’m pretty fluent in all the “ Jessica” renditions. : ‘
Great song but not the best performance by the band . This is from one of the bands lower points in their storied history . The only original members of the band in this lineup are Gregg Allman , Dickey Betts & Butch Trucks . I was thinking this reaction was going to be from their studio recording off of their stellar album "Brothers & Sisters" , which contains the amazing piano work of their then newest member , some 19 year old keyboard prodigy named Chuck Leavell 🙂. This LIVE version IS played at a faster speed than it is on the studio versions & it's missing the key element of the drum interplay between Butch Trucks & Jaimoe ,who was fired & replaced with 2nd guitarist Dan Toler's brother Frankie . Frankie is a rock drummer similar in style to Butch so the intricate interplay he had with Jaimoe , a Jazz style player , was lost as Butch & Frankie were basically playing the same way . ( side note to that - I've seen the ABB in the Beacon Theater in NYC many a times during their annual March residency there . Watching the band from a Loge or Balcony seat I'd watch what Jaimoe was playing in relation to the songs melody and I was always blown away by how I would could SEE what he was doing , thinking to myself so many times , "That beat/riff shouldn't Fit , but somehow it does !" . One of the great subtle things you can only see at a Live show ) Most of the LIVE versions you'll find of the band from after their '89 reunion thru their hanging it up after 2014 ( you picked up on that right at the beginning break where you mentioned it ) are much better . The song itself is the star of this video even if the bands performance isn't up to what I consider the standard of the ABB .
I believe this was recorded at the Univ of Florida bandshell back in the early 1980's. Great music
"Jessica" was written for his daughter by Dickey Betts. I don't know who that piano player was, but it certainly wasn't Chuck Leavell who played on the original. Perhaps he was on tour with the Rolling Stones.
Hi Harri .. To my admittedly untrained ears, I didn't hear anything amiss with the first 30 to 40 seconds of this performance .. Maybe go back and listen to it again, and see what you think ? .. Great music !
Not having the original lineup could explain the timing issues at the beginning. Especially the rhythm section they are normally spot on...
You might recognize the opening intro as the theme of one of your iconic British tv shows..the old Top Gear. 😁
maybe the opening was unrehearsed. When the main song began, they all knew where to be musically after playing it for decades (in some cases).
As a reminder and for Harri’s benefit, Greg Allman on keyboards was married to Cher for a while ..
One of the best rock instrumentals ever written, in my opinion.
I couldn't agree more, and thank you.
Maybe you caught the beginning of this song after the ending of the song you didn't hear. Hard to make sense of the context is it is missing.
Many bands will go straight into another song without stopping when playing live.
Just guessing here.
it's funny you say "use it for a car chase" because this is the song they used for the theme of the UK car show Top Gear. pretty sure it was also the title song for the arcade racing sim Cruizin' USA
This is like blues, Jazz, Country and classical rolled into one
Do any of you know why Jessica was played as it was well free bird was written for Gregg brother who died in a motercicle accendent well his daughter Jessica was with him so Gregg Allmemt wrote Jessica for his niece
I'm with you on the beginning it sounded like a hot mess but then quickly came together.
Not as good as the original studio version. But awesome nonetheless.
My daughter would be Jessica if my cousin didn’t use it, so she is Melissa.
This song always reminds me of my friend, Mike, who introduced me to Allman Brothers. Thanks Dave and Harri. 🌺✌️
Debbie - I am thrilled that you enjoyed this one.
This was used as the theme tune to Top Gear on BBC. The Allmans also had two drummers.
I would be happy if this song just kept going on and on.
I would look for an earlier version before Dwayne and Barry died.
This was written by Betts after both died. Recorded in December 1972.
... brilliant guitar duet 🙏🙏🙏
Heeeere's your jam... but I'm not sure you want it on your toast! 😊
they played for my 1970 senior prom. st Augustine Florida
No one left to run with that's a nuclear almond brothers uh. It's got a good drum section in about three dudes baton and buying it uh thunder
Dickey Betts was on fire!
2 guys playing the same lead live
When I was 18,19 years old, I used to be a DJ here and there and I often used Jessica as an intro, indicative on those events at the beginning as the "starting shot", was a great instrumental song.
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing that...great stuff
You're right, it was a messed up beginning. Only human. Great instrumental.
You got that right brother😅😅
I'm gonna tell you what no think I do they could do a song called no 1 no 1 left to run with almond brothers of course uh. Huh that's a daylight no one left to run with the drums are not want to. I hope it's crazy baby😅😅😅😅
😅Speaking of you got that right? You. Got? You got. That right? It's that's some good song are out there the Leonard Skinner. Does it Leonard scattered the songs called you got that right all right now?😅😅

classic masterpiece!!
I want to crash a car to this song.

This takes me back to serving in Cold War Europe. A taste of home....
Let's get to almond brothers band d*** i*'s all good it's all good after that😅😅😅😅
Really enjoy and I'll still listen to it always listen to it. The brothers of the road album brothers of the road by the almond brothers that song brothers of the road Ah. It's so good so good

We're just brothers of the road my brother. We're just brothers of the road if we don't lose were bound to win
If people would think outside the Box and play the songs that maybe don't have the most hits on it. You. Know like play the songs by Leonard Skinner that have the viewest the fewest not the most the fewest views. Then you get some good stuff😅😅😅😅
Chuck Leavell is the melodic piano player equivalent to Duane Allman on guitar. Skydog lives.
I'm kindly thinking that the song no one left to run with by the almond brothers. I'm kinda thinking now I might just blow some people upon my way hey all right😅😅😅😅
But you know I'm an almond brothers man big fan and Greg almond too but you know Hi if it's almond brothers it's all good. It's all good😅😅😅
The song brothers of the road brothers of the road Ah yeah I love it. I do bits by the almond brothers brothers of the road which is brothers of the road brother

Oh I love The Allman Brothers and a live version to top it off
So much talent
Great choice and reaction
Thrilled that you enjoyed this one. I have really enjoyed your submissions so far this month.
Perfection! The best instrumental! On my birthday one year I got to hear a cover band perform this and it was so good, they sounded just like the Allman’s. One of my favorite videos.
Sandy - Another ABB fan, and I am glad that I chose this one to showcase them.
I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve watched this video. With the headphones, there’s nothing better. Jessica and Melissa are my two faves thanks for suggesting it. Have a great day.
What a fantastic song Dave!! Another one I haven't heard for a while.
Thank you, Miss Cynthia. Glad you enjoyed it.
The guitar does the vocals,,,,,Jess-i-ca,,,,,,I-love-you. 💥💥💥👍😎
Missing one of the finest guitarists in their lineup by this time: Duane Allman, had passed away by this concert.
Greg he'd been a legend since he was. He's been 11 since he was hes been a legend since he was 11 Greg Arman. The brothers is a legend too and every music they get. Song I do is a good song if the almond brothers get put there. If it's the armand brothers put their styin pound it
I have a met nobody listens to but me.😅 That would be a brothers of the road. I'm my only one and several played that 1 and it's got a song on there called brothers of. The song is called the brothers of the road. Adele my brothers. Hello what's all my brothers brothers of the road😅😅
One of the newer songs set up. That'll kick your little honey. I'll be no one left no 1 left no 1 left. I want left to run West. Yes I think they got 3 dudes beaten. Three people beaten the heck out of the drums a whole time man I got him drums a thorpe
Amazing band .. and several of the sons (Devon Allman, Duane Betts, and Berry Oakley Jr) are as solid as their dads .. able to write and play their own songs .. but also nail their dads music ...
The beauty of the Allman Brothers Band! Such memories this brings to mind.
ITS GOOD BUT THE ALBUM VERSION IS BETTER. LOVE YOU HARRI.
From their 4th album, Brothers and Sisters from 1973, this song was named after Dickey's daughter Jessica.
This wonderful jazzy instrumental became a staple on classical radio.
With Dickey Betts clean sweeping guitar lead, the bass guitar so smooth, the gripping piano contribution and drums that make you bob your head Lol, a masterpiece.
The Wall Street Journal called this a "True National Heirloom".
Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Dave. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Greg gregorman he is the man no deny
Always. Why are you spending fun with the bro? The brothers and greg of course but dickie all over me up yep
Some almond brothers songs that's not played matches the ones from the brothers of the road that song right. There brothers of the road by the almond brothers yeah
Another song that i'm really real I ain't too is I never knew how much The almond brothers fan ha yeah from the brothers of the road album. I'm on my hands It's moose stuff.
About the song brothers of the road we're just brothers of the road man that's such I love it❤
U are correct, now cookin'.
I think maybe you should do a. Do a blue sky blue sky that song they had D Wayne almond and very Oakley was on that 1 too. Bumble bumblebee bass player blue sky almond brother's band with dwayne almond
99 minor 1 and no one left to run with this song. It's got like 3 drummers? Yeah I'll set about 3 of them come on. There are 3 of them. Maintenance nearly half the deaths and hours. It's a thunder celebration going on on that song if a dumb mark
It all ninner😅😅😅
Typical of Gibson Les Pauls & outside they just go out of tune, quicker than a Strat, aside from strapping on a log! Once everyone else kicks in it's less obvious. Being outside & with even the slightest temp change all guitars are gonna go out of tune, but none faster than Les Pauls & SG's I've had them & had to tune other band member's guitars. Since it drove me nuts when they were hopelessly out of tune. Add in someone who usually plays an acoustic & they'd make a tuned guitar out of tune, unless they put some heavy strings on it. I'd try my best to keep them on their acoustics. Obviously isn't lack of talent with the Allman's. My first concert at 12 years old when Diane was alive, with Dr John in a full length fur coat, indoors but summer in Little Rock Arkansas & my first taste of that funky smell in the air. Lol! Didn't do anything, but the entire stadium looked like firefly's everywhere. Dr John was a trip. Love your channel I'd love to hear your opinion of the studio version of Grand Funk's Creepin off the American band LP. It hold true today, much too true, 50 years before it's time. Wish there'd have been a reckoning back then, or now. Love your channel Thanks
Yeah greg and the brothers yeah yeah
Absolutely love everything by the almond brothers planned it's all good😅 It's not a another tone that I really really. Love is no one left to run with. No one left to run with this s*** ah yeah that s*** almond brothers does it❤❤
An album nobody plays is the brothers of the road album I absolutely love it fine with me but they gotta song on the brothers brothers of the road. That's the song by the almond brothers almond brothers of the road yeah that's good😅😅
wow...
You need to plug in plug in. The blue sky blue sky blue sky that's from the 8th and 8th album. The song is called blue sky almond brothers ban
A newer song would be no one left to run with by the almond brothers haha brother. He's got about three drummers kicking hard on now and it sounds like thunder hey no one left to run with by the almond brothers
Good performance, but in this case I would have gone with the original studio recording. Chuck Leavell, who played piano on this original and is now the Rolling Stones piano player, had a fabulous solo. I think the solo from Dicky Betts is also superior on the original. Great song either way, but I would have preferred the studio version.
Greg almond hes been a legend soon. Send CVS. Since he is fifteen he was a legend and his brother dwayne bay oakley and all the almond brothers band hey
I'm a big fan I love all. ALL the almond brothers episodes almond brothers on it. It's a real good song you can count on that
They're newer stuff. Song no one. No one left to run with anymore. But I think they've got like 33 dudes buying it on the drone. 3 dudes Biden. It's hanging hard on the drums on now and it's just how. Old mine?
Some music that nobody ever talked. Nobody ever talks about the brothers of the road album and it's really good. I love the song brothers of the road by the almonds
I think Greg was under the weather?
You're not thinking that you're you know it because it's a hundred percent correct come on now
What I've been thinking is. They got a song called no 1 no 1 left to run West by the almond brothers. He let me tell you what I think they're doing 3 drummers so I'm talking about 3 of them just banging like crazy on that song now. Hi it's gonna get wild up and here if they do that😅😅
I know you'd never been on a Fox. You never been on a Fox Chase but you can dream about it or you could play the song and that about taking. It's a group called the Blackfoot take a song it's called brother. F o x c h a s a fox chase by blackfoot all right blackfoot to take it on the fox chase😅😅
😅😅😅
Whether put go find you some black foot as long as called Fox Chase and have a good day. I have a good day all right now own in their brother😅😅😅
Always always always react to the album version first...Whether it be live or studio:)...Keep up the good work...
