You're listening to a group of men that lived together, partied together, helped and fought with each other just like siblings, and loved each other unequivocally. They played so tight because they were so tight.
Harri, check out live at Filmore East live album. A song called Statesboro Blues! Or anything from this album. Its been called the greatest live album ever made.. Peace brother!
The Allmans battled through the loss of two key original members in successive years and continued to put out some great music. Many great musicians played witb them over the years. To be honest, they lost their way for a while when Gregg was having drug related mid life crisis issues, Dickie was too. The final lineup of originals Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe, joined by Warren Haynes (over 25 years) on guitar and vocals, Oteil Burbridge on bass and Derek Trucks (Duane Allman reincarnated) on guitar, was awesome. Saw this lineup a few times, including their closing run of shows at the Beacon in NYC
oh man, thank you for this reaction of yours to the Allman Brothers! Great band! Its been a very long time since I last heard this song. So mellow, love the lyrics. I'm thoroughly enjoying listening to this song right now. Brings back so many fond memories listening to these guys. Along with Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman was my guitar hero.. The other lead and rhythm guitar player Dickie Betts one can watch him performing in and around Sarasota, FL where he lives. They were such a solid band because they perform constantly perfecting their sound.
From the 1969 album, "The Allman Brothers Band" Gregg wrote this sorrowful song about unrealized dreams while living in Los Angeles. He has left Georgia to get his career going. The lyrics, the vocals and the quintessential instrumentation that is so associated with this top notch band made for a perfect tune and yes Harri 2 drummers. Gregg wrote this song on a Hammond B-3 organ and switched to a bottleneck guitar midway through the song. Rolling Stone Magazine voted them 52/100 as the greatest artists of all time. They also are the only group to have had 4 different guitarists, Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. This whole album is a masterpiece. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Ethereal, Mesmerizing, Sublime is how I would characterize this tune by the ABB. Such wonderfully underrated guitar interplay by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts,
They always recorded live in the studio set up just like the stage. No laying down a rhythm track, adding vocals and overdubs later or any of that...straight live performance to tape.
It's The Allman Brothers...it has to be good. Yes, they've always had two drummers. You'll see on any of their videos. The Grateful Dead had two drummers as well.
Always thought this song put you right in the middle of a dream, magical! The ABB at their best! RIP Duane, Berry, Greg, and Butch. Of the original 6 members Dickie Betts and Jaimoe are the only two surviving members. Great reaction, TY.
Always found this # to be spacey, trippy, surreal, authentic. Just one of my all time favorite bands. This original lineup of the band was flat out masters of the universe. Amazing when you think this was recorded after they'd only been playing together for a few months. The tragic death of Duane Allman is, along with the human tragedy, one of the GREATEST artistic tragedies of the 20th century!
Scott - Other than the Beatles, no other band has made more of a lasting positive impression on my lifetime music experience. "Dreams" is simply outstanding, and I have so many great memories associated with this song. A+ submission and review!!
Greg's voice was so good, smooth and gritty at the same time, so soulful. Yes, as others have pointed out, two drummers, Butch Trucks and Jamoe Johanson. They really gave them a unique sound. Then you throw in Duane and Dicky on guitars, two of the best, and Berry Oakley, a fantastic bass player. they had it all. Butch's son is Derek Trucks, who still plays with the band as well as with The Tedeschi Trucks band. He's married to Susan Tedeschi.
I love this song so much. I think it’s a masterpiece. Heard it so many times in the car system, love especially when it comes up random on the iPod. This an Blue Sky are my two favourite ABB songs for sure.
GREAT SONG!! Molly Hatchett's version gives it a harder edge, which I love, but this version is just so very soothing and displays The Allman Brothers' musicianship beautifully.
Great song off for me, one of the top 5 debut albums ever in Rock. Yes, they did play as one, the original Allman Brothers were one of the tightest bands ever, studio or live, they were incredible. From the same album do Its Not My Cross to Bear, some of the best blues this side of Led Zeppelin, they were an amazing band and happened when I entered High School in 1969, everyone loved them. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
In a conversation with the member of another band at the Fillmore East in N.Y., Duane revealed what music he was listening to in downtime. He responded "Miles David, Kind of Blue almost at the exclusion of everything else. You can feel the influence of Miles in "Dreams". Duane said that he was a great admirer of Miles composition style. Ja'moe Johnson, one of the bands drummers turned Duane on to Miles Davis when they first met. Afterward, Duane was a big fan of Miles Davis. This shows the influence of jazz and the blues in The Allman Brothers Band and to, what was called at the time, Southern Rock.
Hari proves once again his keen ear. Two Drummers indeed, yep. And not just a studio thing. If you saw the Dead and the Allman Bros at the same live show, there would be 4 drummers. :)
My favorite band and my favorite song by anybody ever. Listen to the theme of the song. It's a take of from the theme from 2001. And yes, they have two drummers, Butch Trucks and Jamoe. Greg in TN :)
I'm a huge Allman Brother's fan going back decades. This is one of my favorites of theirs and Duane Allman on the slide guitar is just killer. It just flows. With that said, I also like Molly Hatchet's version with it's more rocking theme. It's all good.
The Allman Bros albums were recorded live to tape. The band set up in the studio and performed as if there were in front of an audience with little or no over dubs. If they messed up somewhere, they played it again until it was right. Yes, there are two drummers, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe Johanson.
Duane Allman was 22 (almost 23) when he recorded this. I think he’d been playing for maybe 8 years total and no more than about 2 on slide. Gregg was a couple of years younger and sounded like he’d been singing for 60 years. 😎
There are indeed two drummers..Jaimoe and Butch Trucks...Butch was a driving force and as rock steady as they came....Jaimoe was a jazz, as well as Afro Cuban rhythms influenced drummer , and he swings, grooves and generally provides the atmospheric force...
Harri you can't even tell they have TWO Drummers they are that good give a listen to Statesboro Blues Live At The Fillmors East and watch the Two Drummers thanks
Hi Harri, For you’re own interest and entertainment, I have a suggestion from the most avid Rock&Roll aficionado from Detroit I’ve ever known. THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC is a video biography of legendary producer Tom Dowd. From his NYC days recording jazz, working with soul music in Detroit and Memphis, producing mega-hits by icons like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, The Allman Brothers Band, Derek and the Dominos, on&on&on…some music you’ve already reacted to. I guarantee you’ll have a greater insight into this music industry you’ve become so intertwined with.
I’ll take grief for this but the 1992 version off of the Evening With the Allman Brothers album is so much better with Warran Haynes and Dickie Betts trading leads. I t isn’t a fair comparison for lots of reasons better tech, more mature Gregg voice, if the original band had all survived I’m sure they would have been equally or even more fantastic with the time to grow. I love every note they ever played. My favorites!
You are correct. They did have two drummers.
Smooth as silk.
Just one more morning I had to wake up with the blues 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
You are dead on, Harri. The Brothers were the tightest band ever. It’s hard to describe how damn good those boys were, playing together.
Love it. Taking me back many decades...
You're listening to a group of men that lived together, partied together, helped and fought with each other just like siblings, and loved each other unequivocally. They played so tight because they were so tight.
Just the best. Such sonic magic. How many hours were spent listening ABB. Thanks.
yes they had 2 drummers!
Harri, check out live at Filmore East live album. A song called Statesboro Blues! Or anything from this album. Its been called the greatest live album ever made.. Peace brother!
One of my favorite tracks
This is a great song by the Allman Brothers. Thank you Scott and Harri.
They always had two drummers.
Thank you very much, Harri. 😊
Bought this, their debut album, after hearing for the first time in a London record booth. The rest is history.
The Allmans battled through the loss of two key original members in successive years and continued to put out some great music. Many great musicians played witb them over the years. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
You make that 6 you can add Jack Pearson and Dangerous Dan Toler to that list of great guitar players who play in the Allman Brothers Band.
They had two drummer's, one was Butch Trucks, Derek Trucks Uncle.
An incredible debut album by them. Every song is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and listen to that album all the way through.
The incredible thing about this album was that it was recorded and mixed in two weeks!!
Ethereal, Mesmerizing, Sublime is how I would characterize this tune by the ABB. Such wonderfully underrated guitar interplay by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts,
Yes! You’re right. There was always the twin drumming of Butch Trucks and Jaimoe. They were both founding members. R I P Butch Trucks
Great band and song!!!!
All Time favourite thanks mate😊
They always recorded live in the studio set up just like the stage. No laying down a rhythm track, adding vocals and overdubs later or any of that...straight live performance to tape.
Favorite from the bros.
They have at least 2 drummers.
Love this one.
It's The Allman Brothers...it has to be good. Yes, they've always had two drummers. You'll see on any of their videos. The Grateful Dead had two drummers as well.
Check out Tedeschi Trucks band....2 drummers...Derek has learned a thing or two from experience. 😊...this is coming from a deadhead.
Always thought this song put you right in the middle of a dream, magical! The ABB at their best! RIP Duane, Berry, Greg, and Butch. Of the original 6 members Dickie Betts and Jaimoe are the only two surviving members. Great reaction, TY.
What a band. Their music is sublime

Scott - Other than the Beatles, no other band has made more of a lasting positive impression on my lifetime music experience. "Dreams" is simply outstanding, and I have so many great memories associated with this song. A+ submission and review!!
Thank you Dave! Glad you like it!
Jaimoe Johansen and Butch Trucks are the drummers
, yes like the doobies 2 drummers
Greatest band ever in my humble opinion.
Sugar for the ears.
Buddy Miles covered this. It's his version that Molly Hatchet based their cover on.
It’s 2 drummers!
I used to hear the Allman Brothers a lot at my friend Mike’s house. I remember this song it particular. I love it. Thanks Scott and Harri 🌺✌️
It's the drums... takes you for a ride every time.

As a huge Hatchet Head I will always pick theirs but this one is good

I can’t believe you don’t/didn’t know they had 2 drummers
Gregg wrote this as tribute to MLK
There are indeed two drummers..Jaimoe and Butch Trucks...Butch was a driving force and as rock steady as they came....Jaimoe was a jazz, as well as Afro Cuban rhythms influenced drummer , and he swings, grooves and generally provides the atmospheric force...
You need to hear the version from the Beacon Theater live in 2003. Derek delivers a Duane-like performance. Best version since Duane. IMHO
Harri you can't even tell they have TWO Drummers they are that good give a listen to Statesboro Blues Live At The Fillmors East and watch the Two Drummers thanks
if you watched the video you'd see they had 2 drummers
The ABB had 2 drummers named Butch and Jaimoe.
