Yayoi Kusama. De Nederlandse jaren 1965-1970

Het Stedelijk Museum Schiedam presenteert een tentoonstelling gewijd aan de Nederlandse jaren van de Japanse kunstenaar Yayoi Kusama. Te zien zijn de werken die ze maakte tijdens verschillende periodes waarin ze in Nederland woonde en werkte, aangevuld met de vele foto’s die in Nederland van Kusama zijn gemaakt. Het is zeer uitzonderlijk dat het onbekende en zeer kwetsbare werk uit de vroege jaren van Kusama nu samen te zien is. 'Yayoi Kusama. De Nederlandse jaren 1965-1970' schetst een verrassend nieuw beeld van een zelfbewuste jonge Kusama, die in het Nederland van provo, happenings en jeugdcultuur de basis legt voor haar wereldveroverende artistieke oeuvre.

The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam presents an exhibition dedicated to the Dutch years of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. On display are the works she made during various periods when she lived and worked in the Netherlands, complemented by the many photographs taken of Kusama in the Netherlands. It is very exceptional that the unknown and very fragile work from Kusama's early years can now be seen together. 'Yayoi Kusama. The Dutch years 1965-1970' paints a surprising new picture of a self-conscious young Kusama, who, in the Netherlands of provo, happenings and youth culture, laid the foundations for her world-conquering artistic oeuvre.
