True or not, it doesn't make what Bennett did right. The league completely failed to protect a team captain, then they went on to compound that failure by ignoring a foul by the same player in the following game that resulted in a game tying goal. Bennett had no business even being in that game after he sucker punched Marchand and that goal being allowed is one of the most egregious failures of officiating I've seen in decades of watching hockey.
There are legit reasons to question the integrity of officiating in the NHL, particularly in this series. It seems impossible to believe that in multiple playoff runs Sam Bennett just mysteriously gets ignored by the officials while he commits some of the most blatantly obvious intent to injure plays. Last year it was an undertaker style WWF takedown of Matthew Knies, and this year it's a thinly disguised sucker punch to the face of Marchand...followed up by an obvious goaltender interference play that was mysteriously allowed to stand by the NHL. I had no real issues with the officiating in the Rangers/Carolina series, but the Panthers/Bruins series? Yeah, I don't even have a dog in that hunt and I'm embarrassed for the NHL. The zebras in that series are completely out of control.

As an Australian who has been a fan of the game since '94 and even played hockey in my younger years all the way down under I've officially given up on the NHL this year.
This series is horrendous. Bennet and Cousins both do what they like, injure multiple players in the league and never face consequences from the NHL.
The Lightning Panthers series was attrocious, and the officiating that turned over multiple Tampa goals on the slightest taps on Bobrovsky lost the Lightning games, and potentially a series. Then you watch the calls in that series and compare it to this Boston/Florida series and it is so obviously tilted in Florida's favour. So yeah, I know no one cares but down here no one watches NHL so I only have these types of social media outlets to ever talk or comment hockey. I had this whole bittersweet moment when this call was made in game and just switched it off and went outside. Just can't watch the inconsistency in this league anymore.
The Oilers/Canucks officiating is shocking as well, my thought is that especially since betting was legalised the officiating has gone downhill fast, funny that eh? Like someone else said above, not even mad at Bennet (I do like the Bruins, Rangers and Wild and root for them, liked the Stars, Avs and Ducks when I was younger), I'm just over the league and it's such a shame considering the talent in the league today.. It's beyond any other era and it just gets tainted by the league itself.
I hope the rags have a good run but I won't be watching anymore games this playoffs.

As an oiler fan I can agree, it's the 21st century, we've been playing hockey for 100 yrs now and officiating getting worse. Why does it change from series to series or market to market? When the Bruins played Vancouver in the finals I noticed they were calling the game different for the Canucks a skating team, whereas the reffing calls favored Bruins style. Marchand punched a player in the face twice no call. No supplemental discipline. I really think the only time players decided who wins is the world series back in like babe Ruth's time the NYY thru the game to collect on a bet and dude the govt stepped in!!? All the owners were mad as hell that the players did that. Yet the players finally got paid lol. It's an interesting story look it up. Gambling has ruined sports when all the refs focus on is covering the spread. or if all the money is on your team like my oilers then they lose first game of series, (only 1 pp?)refs keep it close so no spread even tho oilers were heavy favorites. it's not just that either canada has'nt won a cup in 30 yrs, yet its been 40 yrs since their was a powerhouse canadian team. G'day mate

If that's what you call a cross check, no wonder folks are calling Boston fans soft. It was a gentle push. The hit to Marchand...now that was dirty and brutal. And I'm not at all sympathetic.

Panthers fan here. Cats are playing the way everyone thought the Bruins would be. Countering an incoming check off the puck doesn't seem much worse than 4 elbows to the back of the head to Rodriguez. Tkachuk v. Pasta set the tone for which stars are willing to take some bruises for the boys, and now the Panthers have the mental game won.

Guys please read rule 69.7, it allows this goal. this goal should have counted because it was a rebound and contact with the goalie in that scenario is allowed.

It was clearly interference and I wanna point out the Florida has had 22 power plays to the bruins 9 which seems to me that the fix is in I mean some of the calls against the bruins are soft as can be maroon highsticking lindholm interference when the pucks at tachucks feet then to call those but not the goalie interference the other way is absurd no way around it

Wait 1) that's the type of hit Marchand is known for, so please don't whine about it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander 2) Marchand was the one going in for the hot, so he could have avoided it but not doing so 3) Marchand still played after this hit until he tried to hit another player and bumped his head, at which point (now) he left the game (so not Bennet's fault)

Coyle fell over easy and swayman was already in a split sam gave him a light push cant call a cross check on something like that and sam prob was gonna score anyway from the position of the goalie out of it

    • @gingabread2690
      @gingabread2690 27 дней назад

he had to shove coyle into swayman first just to be sure. that constitutes as goaltender interference. Sam's actions made it impossible for swayman to play his position. a goalie can still make a save while in the splits.

When I first had seen the Bennett/Marchant "collision" I was just like, it was a collision... freak accident. Then the other angle came out and then I was "vintage cheap shot artist Bennett strikes again!" I also didnt care because it was on Marchant, as I think he always deserves worse whenever he gets his medicine. I hate that POS rat...
That non-goaltender interference play infuriates the shit out of me though. The league put that rule into place over a decade ago and I 100% agree with it! This was the NHL basically saying that we are going to ignore it and we want Florida to win over you Boston... enjoy your Cup from 2011... thats the only one you are going to win for the next 40 years.
Although I still think that Florida would ultimately take the series... just not like this... I wanted a more epic 7 game series than last year between these two... and we totally should have gotten it!
For clarification, I am neither a Bruins nor Panthers fan... lol
