The Cubs came to mind for me, too. So happy for them to finally get another pennant in 2016 although I’m an Orioles fan.
Every season it’s the same, but obviously ever closer to a SCFV. For their sake, I hope they scout well for an up-and-coming free agent goalie, coerce M16 and possibly T91 to give the Penguins, Sharks, Ducks or even The Yeti a chance, and build a couple of solid defenders, at least a dependable two-way player like Kessel or any of the Staal brothers. Whatever they do, cherish Domi like the treasure he is, or watch his speed, skills and grit go and win a cup for Florida, NYR or Vegas.
Oh, and please sign 90David Ayres to at least a one year deal. Can most def count on him to come up clutch whenever so seldom needed.

No they don't. They blow their entire load on a handful of forwards that most of them completely dissappears come playoff time, then they forgets you need a decent defensive player too to prevent those choking games from finishing you off.
Then we got their media, a decent season overall from the goalie and he's the best ever in the league. One game he gets no help from his teammates and media calls for him to never play in the league again.
Things are getting old real fast, making it funny to watch Leafs fail even though the expectations on the team are way higher than what the team can deliver.

Yet here you are. 😜 I don't see how they get rid of Marner or Tavares. The best that can be hoped is they feel guilty enough to want to stay but sign the contracts they should have signed the first time around for next time. But I don't see that happening either. I think they are just lost to free agency after another melt down next season.
Shanahan and Keefe have to go. A coaching staff that can't innovate, when a power play either has been figured out by the opposition or has lost some spark, has to go. Also, I perceive Keefe as a problem for the lack of toughness and willingness to tangle. The game looked to be going into skill and beautiful play.

The build them up every year into thinking they are superstars, when in reality they haven't had a top tier team since the 60's and speaking of.. the only reason the Leafs have 12 cups in their back history is because the y all came prior to expansion when there were only 6 teams! ... 6 teams! big deal! so winning a cup back then was like just winning your own division nowdays. The cup stats should have an asterik beside them and start in the days post expansion when it hit 30 teams. The leafs have 0 cups since the league expanded to 16 teams in 1968. Pathetic.

@@JohnSmith-le7zw Well ok, Toronto was the second best team scoring wise in the regular season, IDK where your getting 4th. Boston was 5th defensively as well, so that's 2 numbers that were wrong already. also as for the pedantic argument of "average" there are 32 teams in the league, average would be around 16, and if I told you Boston was rank 19th best offensively you'd %100 call that below average, but 13 is equally far apart from 16, so I'd call certainly call that above average. But you can do all the mental gymnastics you want, you calling them "very weak" just doesn't make any sense at all.
Point is, their offensive just doesn't show up for the playoffs. There are teams where their offensive does show up (Colorado, Edmonton, Florida, Carolina, New York), and those teams are very good. Toronto Needs offensive players that can deliver in the postseason. Or put more succinctly, they need better bang for their buck. No shot spending 46M next year on this core is gonna work come playoff time. Fans tend to forget that these players are human. Despite of the money that they make, the pressure of the Toronto market is unbelievable. I am a Bruins fan, and have been all my life, and what the Leafs were able to achieve was impressive. It is easy to judge and speculate, but to actually live in the moment is something completely different. The people that are judging should look at their own lives, and situations that have occurred to them along with the disappointment that they had to accept, and the scrutiny they may have been faced with, how did that feel? Encourage these young men instead of judging them.

Toronto has proved time and time again, they win the games they don't need to, and loose the games where it's do or die. They died, AGAIN. My family is pissed as they are leafs fans, but I saw it coming a mile away. They need to shake up EVERYTHING, whole Arizona Coyotes level Shakeup. Until that happens, I don't see these results changing. I want the leafs to succeed, I really do. Hell, at least the San Jose Sharks can pull a comeback when they have to. The Leafs choke EVERY. I agree with you but I would keep Marner. We need a good goaltender and woll is the best option to start with in the next playoffs. It would good to sign some of the current guys as they played well. They played well. First 4 games were tough. One of the thing they kept saying when they started was we want to get a split. You can’t think like that. Play hard every game to win. This is never the mindset with these guys. They drop one and gets the next one. This is the mindset of the coach also. They have to try to win every game. Gilmore and Clark were great in the old days. Back then we had a good goaltender. That’s how you win when your guy can come up with game stealing saves. If woll played tonight then would we have won this game and the answer is yes. Samsonov is the worse goaltender when he is screened. He can’t track the puck. It’s a real stat so check it out. He can’t track the puck well. He drops down all the time like he is swimming. Terrible

I'm more gutted for Samsanov. Reimer's career as the goalie of the Maple Leafs came to an end and after that he ended up being the side goalie. He was really good at what he did in net but confidence is something fleeting if you lose the faith in yourself. I expect that Samsonov will end up be in the same boat after this. However, I disagree about any rebuilding. I don't see no reason for a shake up. The last time I saw a shake up of the kind you suggest was back in the 1980s when a truly potential Stanley Cup contender was torn apart because they failed to make it all the way. That was when Daryl Sittler and Lanny MacDonald were playing together and Mike Palmateer was in net. The Leafs faded for a long time after that rebuild and really didn't make a difference until the last time they fought the Bruins when Reimer was in net. You have a strong viable team. I would argue that this team has the potential of winning a Stanley in its present form. Does it need some work yes. But the core group that has been making goals happen are essential. Boston hasn't been doing a lot of rebuilding. They stuck to their guns. Trusted their guys to figure out what went wrong and make it count next time. That is the same here. Shanahan has built a strong team. The matter is getting the team over the finish line and a rebuild won't really make that happen. That is my own feeling on the matter.

Core four isnt going anywhere as long as Shanahan sticks around, so you could say that Shanahan is also an essential firing based on that.

If you didn't see this heart break coming, then you don't know this team's love of losing game 7's in Boston.
But I'm not a Leafs fan, so this is hilarious! Ahahahaha

Leafs lost on Star Wars Day. Having someone who played for them in their history would make more sense as president. How about Doug Gilmour or Wendel Clark?

The Maple Loafs are the best regular season team ever! Most offense, great speed and team play. No other team will ever finish as high in the standings as the Leafs. But then again, no one remembers who finishes at the top of a regular season.,

The Leafs make me glad I'm a Montreal fan. That team is looking good for the future.
