1973 Chevy Vega
406 Smallblock with Trickflow heads
Th400 Trans
12 Bolt Rearend with Strange Axles
Things I've fixed and updated:
Moved front bumper in towards body.
Installed 1/2 wheel studs all around.
Changed the wheels and fit a 15x8 with 255/60/15 tire.
Fixed rear spoiler.
Fabricated a core support to fit an aluminum Griffin 27.5x15.5 radiator. #GRI-1-25241-X
Installed Biondo Linelock.
Replaced the old Barry Grant fuel pump with an Aeromotive fuel pump.
Found a near perfect GT grill.
Cleaned up engine bay a little.
Lowered the car all around.
Installed front air dam.
Shortened drives driveshaft loop.
Nice. Did a similar conversion back in the 80's. Drove it from LA to Vegas. No overheat problems going up the El Cahon pass and pulled nicely up the grade. Pulled into a parking lot in Vegas and the radiator got crushed against the parking stop. Bad news - no radiator that would fit was available anywhere in Vegas. Good news, I had the factory 4cyl radiator in the rear hatch where I placed it to get it out of the way. Put it in and hoped for the best. We drove from Vegas, across the desert back to LA with the heater blasting to help with cooling and made it home. Car was fine. We were cooked.
I did a 350/350 Vega in the early 90's. Back then you could buy factory V8 Monza parts that dropped in the Vega including a dimpled oil pan, all from Chevrolet. I bought an after market 4 row radiator and never had heating issues. Even with a smog motor low hp engine it was fairly quick due to super light weight.
Looks like you got some awesome neighbors
I got very lucky with my neighbors
I see you moved the front bumper back like a 72. Cool.
Yea wasn't a fan of the extended bumper
Never liked brake torques
Awesome
Hahaha Vega and Def Leppard...brings back memories :)
Love it Def leopard too
She's a beauty, NO doubts ! 👍✌
Thank you
I wish I didn't sale mine lol I'm now looking for one again
I don't understand why you didn't just inch the motor back ??? and I'm still not feeling the whole burn out deal guys Burn outs are a childish Boyhood thing ...
I didn't install the motor. It has the front style motor mounts at the moment. I've basically just been fixing some things that the previous owners had rigged up. The 406/Th400 are coming out and I'll be building a Turbo 6.0 with a 4l80 for it. I'll try and move the motor back little more. Idk, I like burnouts
Yet a perfectly good V8 Monza or a Gremlin 401 swap wasnt good enough. Looks like the goal here was to waste money on something shittier.
Haha 100% correct
Nice, that's exactly what i did on my vega 39 years ago. Beautiful Car you have built.
Thank you. Still alot of work left to do. I decided to pull her apart and build a turbo lsx/4l80 for it. Definitely gonna take alot of work, but should be worth it in the end.
Not a Vega man really, BUT love the editing and the Sound track choice is on point! Recycle those tires!! 💯🤟
Thank you.
What are you using for rear suspension? I have a 72 and get bad wheel hop
It's nothing fancy. Just beefied up stock suspension. Tubular upper and lower trailing arms with heim joints. The upper mounts on the rear are raised up which I think helps prevent wheel hop. It also has air bags in the coils. I haven't had it at the track yet.
Very cool.
Thank you
Do I need to change the motor mounts i Lu in order to put a small block 400 in it?
Mine has what I think are Trans Dapt Vega mounts, which bolt to the front of the motor. I think they are pretty universal.
Street legal as well
You got some cool stuff going on,,,get rid of the music and talk
I hate talking on videos, but I'm just doing my best. Lol
🔥
I had a 74 camback somebody shoehorned a 350 beefed up and a close ratio muncie 4 speed into it before i ever got it. The cut the firewall out instead of relocating the radiator. Lol.
I'm looking at a vega similar to what you're talking about, except it's a 72, was it a fun car? Nice to drive?
@daddycremecake4260 it was. I drove it around town open header. I cringed every time I saw a cop but they never messed with me. Lol
@@Bearthalamass lol I have a buddy who drives a k1500 like that! It's a wonder he hasn't been pulled over yet😂
What kind of chin spoiler is that?
It came with the car. I didn't see a brand on it, but it's heavy fiberglass. I eventually wanna change it out to a different style. I've read you can use an early Camaro chin spoiler
The car looks super clean. Please don't cut it up to much.
I don't plan to. If I ever get around to it. I'd only mini tub it to fit a 275/60 tire
So what's the specs on the engine?
The motor was in the car when I got it. It's a 406 with aluminum Trickflow head. I'm not sure about the pistons or cam. Maybe one day I'll take it apart.
Great job........💯
Thank you. Still a work in progress
