So you talk about elegoo here. B7t you dident compare the finsihed printing quality between this one and elegoo. Are the results the same on both printers on the finished prints? Thanks alot for the help :)
Great review as always love your honesty. Just disappointed that aside from the anycubic dlp no one else has gone down that road for reduction in long term costs
Could you compare the print quality of Saturn 2 and Mighty 8K? It would great if you could standardize the testing a bit, so the printers are a bit easier to compare, since you are testing so many and seem to be a major resin reviewer 🙂. From the printing stand point I would suggest selecting a few models and sticking with them for all printers. Furthermore with each printer, try those models with manufacturer's recommended resin and some standardized resin, that you would use for all printers.
So mine came in the other day and all the parts are metal, other then the orange lid of course. Maybe the plastic parts were just on the pre production samples 🤷
Interesting. The bottom on mine had a plastic cover around the base... at least it felt warm in a cold room, had no metallic ring when I tapped it and appeared to flex when I pressed it. So I'd still guess plastic. However you're right about prototypes. 😁
I still need to get mine out of the box (it's been a busy 6-months). The detailed prints at 7:40 looked great! ;) I'll unbox mine tomorrow...wish me luck! I hope the security cam works.
I've had this printer on pre-order for a while now and I really hope it ends up being as good as yours is in this video. It was pricey but I did get a bunch of discounts to use on it as well as get a few things for basically free with it like the 8K Grey Aqua resin and another space FEP screen. The only concern I had was the base plate with It's strange design but it didn't look like it would be much concern after you tested it out with a longer exposure time. That screen is really nice and so is the wifi / enthernet port. I just hope it was worth the time and money to get it as I have a bunch of Warhammer projects I've been wanting to use this printer with.
The plate issue could be me... things stick otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do test prints. But other plates have stuck better. If it irritates me too much, I'll either sand it flat or fit a wham bam flex plate. So relax, you've ordered an excellent printer 😁
Well, I'd be very surprised if I don't have an email from them tomorrow asking for measurements 😁😁😁 That's the maker community. Share info and everyone gains.
@@vogman I emailed them as soon as I read your post. They have one that mentioned this printer, but I just asked to make sure that one would work with the mighty. Will post if they get back to me.
MY first prints stuck WAY too well to the plate on my mini8k (same pattern). I had to sand them off. Not sure if it's the texture or if I over-baked them as I lost my settings.
I have some issues with this printer. It´s printing and suddenly it stops and gets frozen. I can even stop or pause it. I have to turn it off. Anyone here has the same problem. I already change the USB even save the file in the printer memory
What is the next big thing for resin printers ? In your opinion ? It looks like it's a K'race. Next we will see 16K or something. Is it really worth it. I personally got a LD002H, and i'm pretty satisfied with it. Is it Moore's Law + marketing.
Great review Geoff! As always your honesty when reviewing products is appreciated. It certainly looks like an awesome printer and definitely produces a great print. I especially like the USB, WiFI, camera and Ethernet connectivity. It's just a shame that Phrozen didn't have the damn apps available to test the connectivity. Anyway, it still looks like a very good piece of kit. Now I've just got to see how much to get one to Oz. 🙄
Unfortunately new printers are a fact of life. Whatever you buy today will be outdated tomorrow. The trick is to buy something that matches your needs and to enjoy using it. 😁
I don't know your budget but here are some thoughts. The Ultra is fine, but the plate is a little small. It holds up well in comparison to newer 4K printers, but some of these have bigger plates. The Phrozen Mini 8K has a bigger plate and is still the best I've seen. The other brands have yet to catch up with it. After later the Saturn 2 and the Mighty 8K print almost as well as the Mini and give you much larger build potential.
@@vogman the mini 8k was the other option I was looking at. Both seem like great options. My budget is decently sized, I just want to help out the DnD groups here (as there are very few options from the local stores).
Is this a good Upgrade to my Phonton Mono X 6K, or should I wait for Anycubic to release their new DLP printer? WIFI connectivity is important to me (so no Mini 8k, or Elegoo Saturn2)
The next Anycubic DLP will print a little larger than the previous model, but it's still not a mid-range printer (as these models are). The Anycubic M3 Plus is Anycubics replacement for the 6K Mono shrsl.com/3md2f and does have wifi, though the Mighty beats it just slightly on print quality.
I have the Phrozen Mighty 4K good to see they have a metallic resin tray. My 4k was out of use for 3 months and all the brass nut inserts in the plastic tray became loose. I had to melt out each nut insert (with a solder iron) and replace each FEP screw with a 30mm M4 bolt and nut. this also involved increasing the counter sinks in the FEP aluminum seal. I have just done a print which worked perfectly but hated having to modify a near new printer...
Hi VOG, thanks for the video! I'll need your honest opinion: what is the best printer 1. Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K or 2. Elegoo Saturn 2 3D 8K? I have Anycubic Photon Mono 4K and I'm printing fine jewellery. Many thanks!
Would you recommend this for functional part? Does it shrink a lot after curing? Would it be suitable for ppl who doesnt care about miniature projects but engineering projects?
Seems reqlly great ,also nice to se you printed from the anubis one from Archvillain! :) Was wondering about filters and about it maybe realeasing toxins? Im just a noob to be fair but makes me wonder ,tvis seems like a wonderful printer i would like to buy.🤩🤩🤩🤩
I have no idea if there are any toxic fumes. I doubt it. But some people do react badly to the smell. However, some people react badly to the smell of some perfumes. Personally I don't notice the smell, but I always have a window open and ensure plenty of fresh air. If you want to test your personal reaction, don't buy a printer, just buy a bottle of resin. Pour a little in a plastic or foil dish and leave it in a sealed room. Give it half and hour and walk in the room. 😁
That knife looks VERY VERY similar so the one I'm using, at the business end at least, (blade and collet and such). I'm really excited to see your review, and also pleased to see Phrozen are releasing such as device. I rely on mine and was concerned I wouldn't be able to replace it should it break. Great work as always VOG.
@@vogman if it helps any, usually if you take the corners of the blade and file them round (you can rub them on concrete floor, use a grinding stone, etc) they're less likely to catch/dig in and scratch something unintentionally when you're scraping with them. I learned this trick back in my car painting days when we needed to peel off masking tape or stickers and didn't want to damage the paint by having the knife dig in. Rounding off the corners of the blade always helped. Might be worth a try.
It's interesting that you say the 8k resin is brittle. I found it to be, too (shattered my exposure tests on-plate) so I'm back to a mix with siraya tenacious. Though Black Magic Craft reported the 8k as very flexible. I wonder what was up with his batch?
I guess he was very lucky. I've gone through 5 or 6 bottles of Aqua 8K now and I've always found it brittle. It prints beautifully, but you have to be very careful in clipping supports and handling fine pieces. 😁
Phrozen Mighty 8K LCD screen is made from plastic not glass. Whatever you do make sure you never get resin on it since it will eat right through it. This is not covered by warranty. Dont know how Phrozen manage to overlook the possibility of users having accidents and getting resin on the screen.🤨👎🏾.

Yeah Uncle Jesse just did a comparison video and said the prints didn't look much different to the naked eye between the newest Elegoo Saturn and the oldest, even though the resolution is better. At some point it's to small of a difference for our eyes to pick up... even though there is a difference its kinda pointless. But I guess improvements are always a good thing long as the prices don't get affected much.
It's pixels. Think of a small square and divide it by four. You have 4 pixels. Divide each of those by 4 and you have 16 pixels. The more pixels you have, the more detailed the print should be. 😁
