  • Review of the Amplid Snommelier, an unashamed board made specifically for deep and open pow. Want a powder gun for the best couple runs of the year? This is it, assuming the size is right.

    Specs and Biases:
    6'3", 180-90 lbs, size 11.5 boot, 23.5" stance. +18 -6 angles (usually.)
Generally riding as fast and hard as possible in natural terrain. Big, long, high speed turns. Powder, chunder, groomers, and natural airs. If a board is really surfy, I can be persuaded to slow down and spend some time slashing around. Not spending much time in the park.

I think it would be too small. Check out the Elevated Salmon. That’s the pow board I’d recommend. Maybe the Lib Tech Stump Ape.

The lack of size variations looks like a common issue with these Amplid’s, very limited options. Nice and interesting looking boards though, hoping to get on one eventually but not too easy to find demos in these.

Ya they’re not super prevalent here in the states. But they are sweet.

What are your thoughts on the Stranda tree surfer?

Thank you for making all these videos! I feel like manufacturers need to start making their boards wider. I’m 5’-6”, 140lbs with a size 8 boot and I don’t like riding a board that has less than a 26cm ww. Ideally, I prefer a 26.5-27 waist width.

To be fair, boards have never been wider than they are now but it’s still not where I it should be. Check out Korua. Those guys know about proper width. Also Elevated, Jones, Bataleon do a pretty good job.

Probably the Jones Storm Chaser. That thing always impresses me.

@@Drift-ProductsI’ve got the Surfer and it didn’t really impress me in the trees

@@jeffstewart4162 Have you watched my review of the surfer? I love that board but the name is wrong. it's really not that surfy as far as swallow tail pow boards go. It would not be my pick for trees, but it is great at carving and great in tracked out pow thanks to that long effective edge and those long swallow tails.

@@Drift-ProductsI took the surfer to Eagle Pass and it crushed the steep open lines but ya it’s almost an ironic name. Great float but that long edge keeps it locked in. I’ll check out your review!

Where the Bataleon Surfer shines is in wide-open deep pow where you can not just lean back, but also punch your toe or heel deep down into a turn or slash. I bought the Camel 2 a few seasons ago and it is PERFECT for riding trees. Just effortless turns in pow, it’s hard to believe the thing has a tail. Sadly, Bataleon has, like Korura, moved their production to China. Those of us who bought boards from these companies before they sold out to Titan got the best of what these creative minds had to offer to the snowboarding world.
