    I really like this Aerodyne but wish the jack was on the side. It would just fit the overall look of the guitar.

    I have the one with the humbucker in the tail. My other Strat is an early 90s plus with the Lace sensors. Love them both but lately I've been gigging the Aerodyne. I love it. Also it's a bit lighter than other Strats I've had. After 40 years in the biz, light is good. As far as "tone woods," it's advertising jive. What counts is that the string is held stable enough to convey the maximum vibration to the magnetic field. Great vid. Thanks.

    Back in early August I was in Tokyo for the first time and during my guitar shop pilgrimages I stumbled upon an older MIJ SSH Aerodyne Strat.
    It was a special Japan only release with Dimarzio Collection pickups. The neck heel is curved and cut back, deep translucent red highlighting the curly maple top and cream binding.
    The bridge is the old 6 screw version but very stable and predictable. No locking tuners, in fact very old style but no tuning issues.
    Slim curved body with rear comfort carves and a 12 inch fretboard radius.
    For me, this one is a keeper. 😁

    I picked up a green HSS Aerodyne a few weeks ago. The only eye sore for me was the 2 white pickup covers right next to the chrome humbucker. Immediately swapped those out for matching chrome covers and it looks amazing. The factory setup was horrible but adjusting the Babicz bridge is super easy and now it sounds great. I agree that the heel should have been shaved.

    Got mine for Christmas it’s great too bad you don’t see them that often gives me concerns about adding things like a rolling string tree since the head stock is painted. You seem to have to use official part and, dealer to not void warranty when adding something like that (not professional on this topic).

    I do have the JV tele and strat, and both bass wood, and I really dont care, basswood is used on high end guitars too. Being a Gibson guy mainly, I prefer a chunky neck and 12” radius. Scale length I can deal with, just use a guage lighter strings and I deck my trem. And add springs. That said I love my JVs and Im a Gibson 12” radius guy, I might pick one up on Reverb. The resale value sucks so can be had for cheap. Its tempting, but some of the asthetics are kind of a turn off. The chrome knobs are tacky. So some upgrades sure. How “modern of a C is it? I cant find the profile thickness anywhere. Anything under .85 is a no go, what is the nut width? Cant find it. So its a maybe. Good guitar to install some fishman fluence and get some crazy good tone. Neck will decide for me. Very important my hands are old and beat up. Cant do slim wide necks. They hurt.

    if you dont want the square heel, maybe charvel is a better option, every one know fender have 4 bolt neck thats square, even govan said more wood against more wood is better, his model did shave off a bit of that sharp angle, and without the plate, anyway, i think fender should separate model line to its classic line, for both type of customers, and their lefty model are so out dated.

    • @jimmyfranklin
      @jimmyfranklin  7 месяцев назад +1

      There are a bunch of charvels that have the square heel too! But most don’t. Fender owns them. BUT I’ll tell you I do understand that fender is a classic brand with classic fans

      @@jimmyfranklin well then I believe we have that in common, I hope I can drive a classic Japanese sports car some time when I'm in a bettwr place in my life. As for the guitars, I agree with Japanese Guitars being superb in quality but I have not made the same experiences with chinese or korean/indonesian instruments. I have this one HSS Ibanez Gio from 1998 made in Indonesia though, and that thing has what I can only describe as infinite mojo and somehow the pickups are just insanely good despite being probably one of the cheapest pickups ever made. The guitars sometimes just find you...

      American made strats really aren’t as great as Fender fanboys make them out to be. They’re ok, but I’ve noticed just as many issues on them as basically any other official Fender, whether it’s an MIM or an MII.

  • @srinip

    I apologize right in the beginning, no offense meant at all. I'm not sure how to take this video, but quite frankly, none of these features are "innovative" in any way - certainly nothing to write home about. Of course, if you insist on a Fender logo on the headstock, that could be an issue. Let me try to address as many of the innovations as I can remember. First, binding on the body is not exactly new, especially the plastic stuff on this body. Anderson and Suhr have been doing masked edges for decades; of course feel and soundwise, that's meaningless.
    The Babicz bridge is really an innovation, true, but they've been available for years. Fender just decided to use an OEM bridge - you can do that on your own Warmoth build. Next, the 12" radius has been around on Les Pauls since the 50s - and you alluded to that. Not exactly an innovation. That said, while 12" radii are better than 7.25", I've had compound radius fretboards on my builds for the past 25 years. Most people (I won't say all) who play compound radius boards would never switch. To be truly innovative, you want to get the ratio between the nut width and the heel width to be exactly the same (not "in the ballpark") as the nut and heel radii. But, in my case, the best I can do is 10-14 or 12-16, given my 1.6875 nut width preference. They're both in the ballpark, and truth be told, I don't know if that little tweak will make a difference - but it would certainly be an innovation.
    Fret sizes are subjective, and I realize that not everybody likes 6100s like I do, but good fret leveling - especially Plek'ing - is an absolute innovation. Heritage has been Plek'ing it's guitars for almost 30 years, the Gibson Custom Shop Pleks everything. And locking tuners? Those cheap All-In-One strats (less than 500 bucks) have locking tuners, so there's that.
    My take is, unless you REALLY loved that Fender logo, you could have gotten all this stuff 30 years back.

    • @jimmyfranklin
      @jimmyfranklin  27 дней назад +1

      Yes. This is all true. But some ppl do like playing fenders. If you look at my channel you will see a lot of guitars that have these features or have features way better than this. I never claimed for it to be innovative. Unless I said it about the bridge but I try to not say that word in my reviews. The point is that I like the fact that you can get all of this on a quality fender at a more affordable price.

    • @srinip
      @srinip 27 дней назад

      @@jimmyfranklin Again, I apologize for my tone (sic), but I felt I had to say it because I have four USACG/Warmoth builds that started 26 or 27 years ago - and have all those things. And, oh, by the way, all my guitars have Earvana nuts too, so they intonate way better than a Fender - and those nuts cost less than 70 bucks! All they don't have is a Fender logo. They look, play and sound better than any Fender on the market, and at a fraction of the cost of a comparable Fender. I don't understand this obsession with a logo, but then, hey...
      It does look decent, though, and would probably be fine at 700 or 800 bucks, but I'm sure it's at least double that. I might add that an equivalent Sire (take your pick, Strat, Tele, 335-style) will be in the sub-1000 price range, and beat the heck out of Fender.
