　This expressway connects Tokyo and Niigata Prefecture through the Mikuni Mountains, and together with the Joetsu Shinkansen, functions as an important high-speed transportation network linking the Tokyo metropolitan area with the Sea of Japan side of the country. The Jyoshinetsu Expressway branches off from Fujioka Junction, and is also part of the high-speed transportation network connecting the Tokyo metropolitan area with the Hokushin and Higashi-shin regions of Nagano Prefecture.
Joshinetsu Expressway
　Running parallel to National Route 18 and the Hokuriku Shinkansen, it connects the Kanto region with the Hokushin region of Nagano Prefecture and the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. It is also the “shortest route” on the expressway connecting Tokyo to Toyama, Kanazawa, and other areas in the midwestern Hokuriku region, making it a logistics artery between the Kanto and Hokuriku regions.
