The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 Is Ferrari's Worst Nightmare

- The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 could possibly be the most anticipated sports car of the year. From the very moment you step in the C8 Z06 your mind says "this...can't be a Corvette."
That's exactly what Chevrolet wanted you to think and what they have accomplished is astounding. They built a flat plane crank V8 completely from scratch with none of the drawbacks of a high revving engine. The Z06 actually in fact became the first car in years to have me sit back and ask myself "what time do we live in?" Ferrari better watch out - the Corvette is coming for you.
So what makes the Corvette Z06 so astonishing? Let's go for a drive and let me tell you all about it.

Tdib review of the new z06- "GOD!!!!!!"
Can you say the same when comparing the GR Corolla Core to Circuit/Morizo?
@@adriancandelaria531 It'll most likely be a hybrid with the trend of things.
My biggest worry will be the intended group of people it's supposed to be accessible for. Chevy said they're going to punish dealers who mark it up past MSRP. (Already videos circulating about 90k+ mark ups) If they don't actually slam the hammer down on these clowns, joe everyman won't ever see one. It'll just end up as another ultra-wealthy toy instead of the super car killer at the 100k price point.
How many average Joes can afford $100K performance cars though?
@@MisterMikeTexas That isn't the point, the point is, for it's extreme level of performance it performs at a weight class that extremely few can afford, while having a price tag WAY more people can manage. $100k~ is way more doable than you think verses 250-500k. I know that sounds insane but it really isn't.
We don't need greedy cunts, marking up these 'affordable' supercars so only the ultra-elite can afford them.
@@MisterMikeTexas construction joes got money to blow on vettes
@@MisterMikeTexas I can name off a bunch of guys making 35hr+ plus OT who have toys at this price range
actually the dealers are already stating $200k markups. So you're buying a $350k+ Chevy Corvette, that has as fast of a 40-80mph time than my modified MK7 GTI...
It’s a shame they’re being marked up so much. Uncle of mine was set on getting one, (he has a C8 stingray right now,) but was hit with a 25k dealer markup. Needless to say it’s not happening now lol
Problem is, if he doesnt pay the 25k, there's 10 people in line behind him who absolutely will.
Mightaswell pay because in the long run the car will triple in price by 2030, the 19 ZR1 now is worth a GT3RS while being sold for $120k
First world problems:(
Car manufacturers need to work out a new deal with the government so they can sell direct to customers. Dealers are ruining this for everyone.
That's ridiculous .. different world we're living in now
The C8 Z06 has definitely become a dream car for me, and I didnt even care for the Z07 package until hearing you talk about it. Im super excited it stayed a NA V8, and Chevy is definitely letting them go out with a bang before hybrids and electrics take over.
Fuck hybrids and electrics
Jim has been absolute garbage since the 90s, if you're in the Auto world you know this, just remember you're going to drop a buck 30 probably on one of these maybe a little more, it's like buying a Renault or a Fiat dude! I'd rather buy a 2-year-old recent NSX surgical machine! I drive American trucks and Japanese cars just saying, LOL. Toyota and Honda just make better s*** man! All the way around consumer to the company to the way they run their company the way their machines work and the factories the customer service is way Superior! And my dad taught me this in the early '70s and they're still winning. C8 cool car yes, is it worth the money? No.. at 60 Grand yes. ✌️🇺🇸
@@bsellman6881 a c8 is a cool car, the Z06 is something else entirely. I dont want a 2 year old NSX, I want American muscle while it still exists. You don't know me but I daily drive a Camaro which has been flawless, and I'm big in the auto world. Every car has its problems, some are worth the price tag, some aren't. Z06 seems fine by me but I'll be on the look out for some 6 month owner reviews.
@@RideWithDanger but it's not American muscle that term came from an era that actually defines a front engine high performance power plant, it could be rear engine for example the Shelby GT40 even though that's a difference story, that's a car that Chevy looked at and they're so cheap and government funded that, it's easier to cheat let's buy a Ferrari, but it's the same kind of unreliable garbage, with the different flavor you know it's not lemon it's lime but it's citrus LOL, I don't think this error is over and in fact the money is in the old cars there's a couple components you can't replace new technology with, if you know what I mean, it's real simple I love the co6 I have bad dreams about selling mine, LOL tuned trackworthy, beast, I could run with modern cars all day, had her 07. With the trend toward hybridization and electrification, I have a feeling the C8 Z06 is going to hold its value extremely well for the foreseeable future. The only way it could be any better would be the option for a manual but I dont think that's ever going to happen.
The biggest mistake GM made with the C8 (well, that and the styling). Oh well, a few wrecked Z06s later, and we'll probably start seeing them in C7s.
i think the c8 z06 might just be too fast for a manual lol
@@ryanzhang4897 I would gladly sacrifice a a few seconds on the 0-100 to be able to manually row through the gears, they would have to make or source new transaxle manual for it, not to mention the the linkage, shifter etc. Lotta R&D for an afterthought, would be cool though.
@@ryanzhang4897 There is no such thing as too fast for a manual

I think the sound of this car fits that body/chassis so much better than the LT2. We rented a base C8 in Cali for a few days and it was a blast to drive, but the sound doesn't match the look very much.
Yep. The flat plane car is the one to have.
It's bullshit, electric isn't the future at all, car companies are just comspiring to make it that way because it causes everything to cost more
Sounds exotic!
The C8 is such a winning platform, congrats to GM for making the Corvette name truly special
they ruined the corvette legacy with the c8, it's a good car, if a little ugly, but why make a completely new style of car that will never live up to the c5 and c6
@@houseking9211 "live up to the c5" 😂🤡🤡🤡

@@papa_pt motorsport has very little to do with the roadcar, pratt and miller do their best work with front mid cars, not with whatever ugly 458 clone they're working with now. Plus gte is going to be dead soon and GM has never tried gt3 before which has even more competition
Whenever I'm hard driving, I always have a small bag of candied ginger. It helps a LOT if you're doing hard turns, or hitting small rollers all day! It only started happening to me in my mid 20's and it stopped around mid 30's. I still take candied ginger to the track (and trails) though!😋
The way I see it, other than the new Z06, the C4 Zr1 was the last great experimental production Corvette. That all aluminum, Lotus designed DOHC 5.7 was absolutely nuts. Especially after it went from 375 horsepower to 405 in 1993. Having a car go 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, a quarter mile in 12.70 and a top speed of over 180 in 1993 and not having to buy a big nameplate like Ferrari or Lamborghini was insane. Chevy really knows what they're doing when it comes to designing ground breaking performance cars. As a Mopar guy I give them hella respect.
Lotus did a wonderful job with the C4 engine. I was really hoping the engine that powers the Emira would be of Lotus design.
C6 w the ls7 should be on the list too. Because with only 8k in mods you can get it to be a reliable 600+whp NA z06. Actual bang for your buck before dealer markups like today's were a thing lol
@@GetShrektMrKrabs that is true. The LS7 is legendary. And retiring it out of the Corvette and slapping it in the Z28 Camaro was a good move on Chevrolet's part

And this is isn’t even the C8’s final form. We still have the ZR1 and the alleged Zora to go.
You are correct. We haven't reached the middle of the C8 lineup of cars.
I've also heard about an ERay version
True but I don't think those will be track focused like the Z06. The E-Ray will be too front heavy for tight corners, most likely even the most understeer prone of the lineup. As for the "Zora" it will be positioned as the straight line awd twin turbo monster. Faster than the Z06 on track? Possibly. As visceral as the Z06? No.
Also I don't think there will be a ZR1 of the C8. GM patented E-Ray and Zora two years ago, and Stingray and Z06 with the new fonts in 2018 and 2019.
I would consider the Zora as the ZR1 replacement, it would make sense after all seeing as ZR stands for Zora Racer.
I wanna see what Hennessey does with one.
I love that race track. I've been around it in a viper acr gtsr, GT40 Mark 1 and Mark 3 and an original Shelby gt350r. Pittsburgh international race complex has to be one of the most underrated tracks in the US. Their cart track is also a lot of fun.

Some of my best work has been done with the C2, C4 ZR-1, C5, and C7 across multiple events, and I foresee the C8 Z06 being a natural extension of that success.

As soon as I heard the exhaust on the C8 Z06 for the first time and saw the MSRP, I knew that it'd be my next car. That said, with the current chip shortage, insane dealer markups, and generally crazy used and new car market, I doubt that I'll be able to get one for even remotely close to MSRP for a very long time, but I refuse to pay these insane markups. The main selling point of the car is that it's an absolute bargain at MSRP for what you're getting, but when the dealers are trying to charge $90k over MSRP (if you can even find one), it defeats the point of the car.

But after watching your video as well as a few others, I really feel like I’d be missing something significant without the Z07. Caught in a quandary. In reality, I won’t be tracking the car that much. Currently have a 2021 C8 and am 10th on my dealer’s list for Z06 so could be quite a wait. Just feel if I make the jump to the Z06 from the C8 and don’t get the Z07 package, I really didn’t make the full jump. Just wish the market adjustment would disappear. I know i contribute to the problem by agreeing to purchase a car with the racket adjustment.
Of course. you contribute to it...but I can't blame you, that's the market as it is right now. My only complaint is that it is not a free market. You bought what you wanted.
What I do find appalling is that I can go the the Corvette website, build the car that I want at a $65k price, and then find out that such a car is not available. Period. Car companies hide behind the "we can't tell dealers what to sell cars for", and they are right. But GM is telling me that such a car is available. If they wanted to be fair, their would be no pricing on the websites, just in big letters to see your dealer for price and availability.
It may not be illegal, but it is extremely unethical to tell me such cars are available at a price, and they simply are not. I would be ok that this went on for a new model and was temporary, but come on, it's been years.
That intro was 🔥!!!!!
As much as I would like one of these, I can't get one. I'd STAY in trouble with this BEAST!
I heard there were many hurdles against corporate to make this happen. I’m happy for the gm engineers this is a celebration for them!
It' truly ironic! The other day, a car was pulling-out of the gas station in front of me at the light, and when I looked at it, I thought it was an older 'Vette at first glance, until I saw the Ferrari emblem on the back as it pulled in front of me. I just laughed to myself. Shortly thereafter, I saw a white 'vette and thought it was new Ferrari. Laughed to myself once again when I noticed the badging.
Corvette has truly arrived and is seriously bada$$. I'm not a 'vette fan, nor am I a super-/hyper-car guy at ALL, but I'm damn sure going to give the Corvette two HUGE thumbs up for their overall design transformation(s) over the past several years. Pretty dang cool, in my opinion!
Best vette chevy/gm made was 89 zr1 with the lt5. Quad cammed, lotus designed and mariner company built thing is beast and was beating almost all cars on the road. I think that was our "first" supercar
@ThatDudeinBlue I see you nailed the @1320video merch plug lol
That intro was so good.
Can’t argue with the performance, sound, looks etc
But - no option of a manual. Takes away a key part of enthusiast fun
Good Lord, it is stunning and powerful to see and hear!
I bought my C8 Z06 last week and I RARELY put the pedal to the floor. That's how f#@king scary the car is. I can sum up the Z06 in one word. Violent.
Love the flat crank sounds
Two things that make me nervous:
1) First generation
2) New engine design
An absolute dream! I hope to be able to afford one one day
Ohh that's an amazing car. Love that exhaust note.
My favorite still tho is a 2012 zr1 and I like the interior. I love the gauges in zr1. My opinion but it’s my dream car I’ll never get 😀
Go Pedder here too!!! ✌🏽🔥
