• Instruction sheets are a step-by-step written instruction on how I drafted this or that project, so that you can follow along. Instruction Sheets are available as a back catalogue, but there are no new Instruction sheets for projects starting with July 2022.
• The templates are ONLY for the small projects, like a basket, or coaster, or towel wrap and etc.
• I have also created sewing reference sheets and practice sheets, as well as sketches that you can use and some small-scale garment parts that you can use to practice "slash and spread" techniques and dart manipulations. Instruction sheets are focused on the drafting process and less on the sewing sequence as that is shown in the video. Sewing steps can be sometimes written out, and sometimes referenced back to the original video.

What are your BEST tips for sewing with knits? Share with the rest! Thank you! :)
Great instructional video for a beginner to skirts. I used this and your other pencil skirt video to create mine. It will be used as the base of my Halloween costume. I'm proud to say I even attempted my darts with the serger and it was a success!
I have never seen this special way of making a waistband. Thanks Alisa Shay.
I love your tutorials, I've learned so much from You. Thankyou. Xx
Hi there, I love watching your video tutorials, today I made the pencil skirt but maxi length, it turned out perfectly and I don't have an overlocker just a basic sewing machine. Thankyou teacher, south Yorkshire England. Xx
Thanks Alisa! So my tip for sewing with knits is using a walking foot! 😍
Great tip, thank you Judy! I actually have never had/used a walking foot, can you imagine?
@@ThoughtfulCreativity It’s inexpensive and a great tool to have! It helps keep fabric aligned together good for slippery fabric and knits! 😊
Do you use a special needle as well? I just bought a walking foot. :)
4:00 off topic...you have very pretty handwriting. Really beautiful writing.
Awww, thank you :)
Yes I too like your waistband drafting method. Am looking to make a stretch pencil skirt and so enjoy your tutorials! Actually I made an open front cardigan from this stretch fabric using your pattern drafting tutorial and have enough fabric left to make a shorter pencil skirt! My tip for sewing with knits is using a walking (or even feed) foot. I have an older machine with a few stretch stitches, but still find this foot makes a big difference in the end result of the seaming. So much better at keeping the fabrics from moving around and lessens the chance for the top layer to stretch out longer than the bottom layer. Thank you again for an easy to follow lesson - great for sewists of all skill levels.
Just love that you teach us how to make our own patterns. I've sewn a few garments now using my own pattern but I've never completed a projecy working with a purchased pattern. ALways overtakes me but making my own works lovely. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I've learned SOOO much in such a short time from your clear instructions.
Awww, this comment made me super happy! I always feel like this is all for a reason when people like yourself can take these directions and then turn them into lovely garments and awesome sewing experiences!
Thank you for being here and watching! :)
This is gorgeous,I love the color
Love it. The pink goes so well with the grey. Just did one myself yesterday from a cheap stretchy blanket from the market. It turned out amazing, your way of making the waistband makes all the difference. Thanks a lot.
I made 1 in Fashion School & I basically found the pattern while was cleaning out my sewing room drawers. Great & gorgeous..!!
I love how you did the waistband! Great idea!
Thank you! I always do that on my pencil skirts, I like it better than just attaching the elastic...
The grey top is gorgeous. Can you show us how you made that too please:)
I too would like
Great diy Alisa 😁. I sewed knits for years using only a sewing machine. Testing on scraps is definitely a must (wavy seams are the worst! 😑. I like a 1.5 wide, 1.6 length stitch for most seams, but a 3 or 3.5 wide, 1.6 long stitch to mimic a serger stitch. I also use an overcast stitch & foot to mimic a serger. Actually learning to use a serger has been life-changing. Oh, adjusting the pressure foot tension (using the black ball-thingy behind the foot) has been very helpful too :)
Do you know who has a tutorial on how to use the black thing on sewing machine foot? I saw one awhile back and totally forgot who filmed it.
@@noemir8262 I’m not sure, but I saw someone demonstrate by having the fabric under the pressure foot. While the pressure foot is up, push in the black button, keep holding it and lower the pressure foot onto the fabric. Hope that helps:)
@@rikkib7636 Thank you!
Excellent your explanations are always sooo clear.
I love the colour you used and it brings our the beauty in it.
Thank you!!!
Hi Alisa!! Wonderful vlog.. Fabulous pencil skirt.. Love the color too....
💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Thanks Alisa!
My pleasure!!! :)
What a pretty pencil skirt!
Thank you! :) Comfy too!
Thank you so much!
Excellent !!!! thank you for share
Looks great, beautiful colour.
Thank you! :)
I think I'll do it in red for christmas holiday. Thank You and sorry for my english.
You make it looks so easy!
Beautiful tutorial ❤
Very nice
Can you do a tutorial of that grey top you used with the skirt? I love the long full sleeves!
Kristenne! Hi! :) I love that sweater top and I have made a few, maybe will do a tutorial soon :) subscribe if you haven't already :)
Good job lovely lady
Thank you! 😊
I sometimes use a walking foot and/or lift the presser foot every few inches to let the fabric relax and reduce chance of puckering. I do that occasionally while using serger depending on fabric behavior.
Noemi, a VERY good tip! I do that on my serger too, sometimes, especially on the sharp curves!
Love working with stretch fabrics. Often no buttons, no zipper and is also slightly more forgiving in terms of fit due to the stretch. Beautiful skirt and nice combination with the gray sweater. Did you make these yourself?
Well done👌 and thank you for sharing this with us! ☺
Maria, hello there! I did make that sweater myself, too! Will be posting a tutorial for that style of the top pretty soon :) Thank you for your kind comment, and if you haven't seen yet - I have lots of videos like this on my channel!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Ooh thanks Alisa! That's super sweet! Yes I have already seen several tutorials from you! I love it! And now also subscribed! Thank you for your response! ☺
Wau love your top
very cute skirt love the color of fabric❤
Thank you! Yes, this stretch velvet from hobby lobby has some gold undertone to it, cute!
If you did this with a woven fabric how much ease would you add? And thank you for the pattern drafting instructions!
That video is very clear to me, 🙏, now I'm inspired to see me a pencil skirt. Can I use a ponte fabric for this Alyssa?Btw, that pink and gray color looks good 😌 on you. Thanks ahain
Ponte would work great - anything with a stretch! and thank you! :)
If you don't have a server, try using a stretch thread
Weel done.
My tip is for those who dont have a cover Stitch machine, use a double neddle on the domestic machine. Thats what i do for the hem.
Kisses from azores.
What stitch length do you prefer when using twin needle?
@@noemir8262 hi. I always use 4 because it looks good and still gives a nice strech.
Nice
Thanks! :)
Can you link to the fabric you used? I love the color and the finish of it makes it so holiday!
Kris, hi! I bought it in-store at hobby lobby! It is stretch velvet with some good finish to it.
Could I make this with a different type of fabric that's not knit or stretchy?
Can you teach us how to make a shirred blause?
Did you make the coverstitch with your serger ? How did you do that ? With how many treats ?
How do you measure your elastic? I heard I heard somewhere you measure it to your waist size and take out 4 inches but what do you do?
Marielena, hello there, great question, as elastics can be veyr very different. Take a loot at this video, also an elastic skirt I did, when I get to the elastic part I explain what I do and how I measure it - ruclips.net/video/JKPxaqAqpVM/видео.html
💟🙏🙏
Do you have turtorials with your coverstichmashine
I do, please look through my older videos.
Can this be done with woven and none stretch fabric ?
If you have negative ease in any pattern - then it is only for knit fabrics.
Do you have a basic blouse pattern?
I do and plenty of those, all on my channel :)
How do you measure pencil skirt?
Please watch the video.
Can someone please tell me where I can find the instruction sheets.I am a member but can’t seem to find any
