Adventure Thru Inner Space ride thru (Very Bad Quality)

  • *** IMPORTANT: New high quality footage with the lights on from ATIS's opening has recently surfaced. It gives a nearly complete ride thru of the ride in its prime. It can be found here: • Adventure Thru Inner S...
The quality of this video is terrible. If you've never been on the ride and want to know what the ride was like, I suggest looking at the incredible CG virtual ridethru created by Steve Wesson. His website is at:
    themightymicroscope.com/ .
People wanted to see the footage from the Extinct Attractions Club DVD, so I went ahead and posted it. Supposedly, this home movie was taken in 1985 by an Imagineer on the last day of the ride (I doubt it was an Imagineer - EDIT: I've been corrected by the editor of the original DVD the clip came from, Dave O'Neal, that the story is correct). By then, the ride had become neglected and dilapidated, since it would soon be torn down. For example, there were large rips in the ride's projection screens.
Unfortunately the video quality is very bad. The entering and exiting queue are in good quality, but the inside of the ride is very dark, so for most people it will be a total wall of darkness. The only moderately clear things made out are some of the snowflakes, the pulsing atomic nucleus, and the eye. You might make out a little of the projection of the snowflake melting if you squint real hard. Also, for some reason, an MP3 of the ride's narration was placed over the original home video's track. If you listen closely, you can hear the original track. The MP3 syncs horribly to the actual ride. A large chunk of the narration was even cut out, meaning the editor probably didn't know what was going on in the video himself.
Some things to look out for:
4:02 Snowflake scene, a snowflake is visible.
    6:42 Pulsing atomic nucleus
7:37 You are now back on visual
    8:07 Exit and oil fountain
Will a full, clear ridethru show up one day? I doubt it. However, more of the color clips with the lights on have surfaced, and they've been edited together by the Disney History Institute. It shows almost all the main parts of the ride, including the arch of trailing electrons the atom-mobiles travel through. The new footage also shows part of the old post show. I'll keep this video up to inform people about the bad quality of the Disney Extinct Attractions Club DVD. It can also show what the exiting queue of the ride looked like after Monsanto left.

This is probably the only footage of the actual ride on RUclips so quality doesn't not matter in this case... After all this ride was from the freaking 60's, and camera film was very good back then but bad now due to being worn down... I find this a historical treat from the first Disneyland and the "new" Tomorrowland!!!!!!

The title doesn't lie. This is very bad quality. Though considering how dark this ride was and how cameras didn't have back lights at the time, it's excusable. But at least this video does show legitimate proof that the ride really did indeed exist! Thanks for the upload.

This comes from the Extinct Attractions Club DVD release on this ride. The real problem with it is that it doesn't let us hear the natural audio of the recording, which I would much rather here than to dub in the archival audio.

@@thedizzer3831 I have actually synched that live audio to this video but I've been a bit hesitant to upload it. It required cutting out chunks of this video to get it to match but at least it gave a little bit of a rough idea for me of what the ride was like live. I can see why people didn't even try to do camcorder recordings of this when in theory it was possible to do it as early as the 80s because it was just too dark inside (this is also why no early camcorders tried to do the old Fantasyland dark rides before they were shut down).

Adventure Thru Inner Space opened in 1967 - and lasted until 1985.
Up until 1982, most every attraction at Disneyland (and eventually Disney World) required a ticket. "A" tickets were the cheapest, "E" tickets the most expensive.
"Adventure Thru Inner Space" (as well as "Great Moments with Mr Lincoln") were FREE attractions - they didn't require a ticket. Which made it very popular, at least for the first decade or so. That, and the fact that there was rarely if ever a line! Those ride vehicles, also used on the Haunted Mansion, were great.

Look at the attraction posters on the wall at 8:55 to 9:12. I'm pretty sure that the third poster from the left is that super rare TRON PeopleMover attraction poster. If this was 1985, it would be about the right time. So cool.
It's tough to get a good look at it, the quality isn't great. I wish the person filming had scanned the artwork on the walls a little longer...

Thank you for posting this. The videographer may not have overdubbed the audio. These atommobile's (as well as other ride cars) were very close together. I recall hearing audio clearly from adjacent cars. His microphone may have picked that up. Fun anecdote: There was a gallery above Pirates of the Caribbean in the late 80's where Disney sold off their remaining original attraction posters for $300 each (the real ones). There were two ATIS posters left - I got one of them! That was 1988.

As a kid in the early70's me and my friend were lucky enough to both get the latest Portable Cassette Player Recorders with wired "Microphones" in faux leatherette over the shoulder carrying cases because his dad worked for a electronics company and a goal we were determined to carry out in our little young minds at that time was to "Sneak" in our recorders and record the audio from The Haunted Mansion firstly and then if successful without our recorders being confiscated, The Pirates of The Caribbean. We we're successful in both those "Mission's" but unfortunately we had to get serious with our ride riding and put the recorders away in those lockers they use to have until we we're nearly ready to leave the park and for many years in spite of "Soundtrack Album's" for many years we enjoyed the hell of our recorded visit to Disneyland. And that's the way I want to remember Disneyland forever. 😐

It actually was done by an imagineer, his name is Greg, and since it was shot in 1985, you have to understand that the video camera's back then were not that great, and I was very happy to have included anything in our video, and remember its not just the ride through, its the interviews I did with Bob Gurr, etc... that really are the video.

If the camera was able to use the available light, I'm sure it would be much more watchable.
I remember going on this ride when I was a kid, and later when my friends and I "smoked out" on it, haha. This was possible because it was a "dark ride" before all the video devises were installed. This also made it possible for other questionable activities that led castmembers to nickname it "Adventure Through Intercourse".
