  • Adventure Thru Inner Space opened on August 5, 1967, as part of the New Tomorrowland, and closed in 1985 to make way for Disney and George Lucas's new Star Tours attraction, which opened in early 1987. The attraction was narrated by Paul Frees, who also lent his voice to the Haunted Mansion attraction, another Omnimover attraction that is still open to this day. Viewed on the Oculus Quest

I love this. This is so cool. I was 11y/o when this ride opened in 1967. Back then most of the rides required a ticket. You had a book of tickets labeled from A to E, with the "E" ticket being for the more adventurous rides like the Submarine Voyage or the Matterhorn Bobsleds. However, some of the rides and exhibits were free, and The Adventure Thru Inner Space was one of them. I must have ridden that ride at least 5 times on our first day at Disneyland. This video brings back a great memory. Thank you.

One reason Adventure Thru Inner Space so was popular (and repeatable) was that it was one of the only “free” attractions, meaning it didn’t require a ticket to ride, as it was sponsored by Monsanto. Once Disneyland went to a ticketless system in 1982, it’s days we’re numbered

Even when Monsanto was still sponsoring the ride (maybe a few years after opening), they started requiring "C" tickets because guests (mainly teens) were destroying the ride props and spitting at them, also getting a little too cozy with their partner. But yes, by the 80's this ride rarely had a long line and Eisner wanted more thrilling attractions in the parks.

"The same thing we do every night Pinky...TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD" That narrator sounds just like "the Brain".

The narrator is Paul Frees, who also is the Ghost Host on The Haunted Mansion.
