If they replace ice cap zone with anything even similar to this crap, I ain't buying. The ice cap zone song on genesis is one of the most memorable level tracks from my childhood
In my opinion, this should've played for ice cap zone act 2. The original theme sounds fitting for being underground in snow, with crushing pillars and icy spikes and this prototype feels cheerful, and fun as you escape the cave and run around snow piles, trampolines, loops and more. It's literally a transition from Hard Times to Easy Times
Hard times combines with act 1, with a more calm and ceremonious rhythm, like trying to stay calm being trapped in an elated cave, and the prototype theme combines with the feeling of freedom of act 2 already in the open air 😄
The theme fits, based on evidence this is based on act 2's theme, stage sketch and design doc for it. based on what little we can see of the sheet through flying battery's, "Water, Mountain Tunnels, Avalanche, Wild Edge, Crystal Pillars". With each of these the song kinds of fits, having a more wilderness/wild feel with heavy echo (Underground Tunnels) and a melody similar to crystal egg.

Now that the Sonic origins music for Sonic 3 has released, I’m happy and sad at the same time. Sega made it sound like “sorry we’re gonna have to remake the whole soundtrack” but the music is nearly the exact same, but technically different which avoids copyright, but then for CN, IC, and LB, I know they couldn’t use the final music even if it was still different, but WHY DIDN’T THEY JUST USE THE BETA MUSIC??? IT’S RIGHT THERE. Instead of just using the beta but slightly changing it, they changed everything, but that’s not the problem, the problem is that it just sounds to close to the Sonic & Knuckles collection music which sounded like garbage. I know their different, but still it kind of angers me. I know I just sound like a whiny Sonic fan complaining about the music being slightly different, but especially carnival night sounds awful, when I actually preferred the beta song over the final song. All though I think Ice cap uses a similar song to the beta which is ok, but then why didn’t they just use slightly modified beta songs for the rest of them? K, rant over. This isn’t the end of the world, and Sonic origins still looks awesome and I’m still gonna buy it cause their still the definitive version of the game and the amount of heart and soul this game has is still great and I’m so exited to see the Mobile versions ported onto consoles, including Sonic 3 which hasn’t seen a rerelease in a decade. They... never said they were remaking the entire soundtrack? None of the songs were even changed except for the *obvious* songs with copyright issues, what are you even ranting about at the beginning?
I get the sentiment but this comment says a lot for nothing. The reason the S&K Collection sounded bad for most people was because they didn't have a proper MIDI sound card, so the game just relied on whatever their PC could produce on its own. A proper MIDI sound card or a good soundfont nowadays can produce some great results.
I grew up playing the Sonic and Knuckles Collection on PC, where this was the default track for Ice Cap Zone. It was jarring when I played the game again on Xbox Arcade in college and they had different music for this, Carnival Night and Launch Base. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I prefer the prototype tracks more.
its not nostalgia, the prototype songs actually fit better with the zones they're from. ice cap when using the hard times rendition sounded harsh and unfriendly, when about half of it is outside and you START BY SNOWBOARDING. @@mokspeed1856 The reason why people feel Ice Cap final theme fits with the level while at the same time they are baffled with Ice Cap prototype theme, is because they're too used to Ice Cap final theme associate with the level for so many years. If you look around the aesthetic of the level, Ice Cap prototype theme fits, but in a different way that go appropiately well with the level. Ice Cap prototype theme seem to fit more with the positive aspect of this location that lot of people seem to not notice. If you look closely at the cave aspect of the level, there seem to be lot of beauty welcoming feel of the cave with lot of flashing colors going on with the background and there are decorative color crystals going on that gives a more positive mood around the cave. The music is supposed to emphasize that Sonic appreciates the beautiful environment around the level, giving a more positive light of Ice Cap. Not to mention that Ice Cap prototype theme also goes really well with the parts outside the cave. Since this track is created before Hard Times Ice Cap, it's no doubt that the developers and composer intended Ice Cap to be this way. But because Hard Times Ice Cap theme is associated with this level so hard for so many years, it's stuck to people's heads that Ice Cap is supposed to be a much more serious theme. I recently played Sonic Origins playing 3& Knuckles so far. And every time I play through Ice Cap with of course the prototype theme chosen for this stage, it never felt out of place. It felt right for the stage and never got second thoughts of it. I feel people would feel the same if they're introduced with Ice Cap prototype theme back in 1994.
That snare makes for a more finished sound, still needs a a bit more support as far as instrumentation, but this still sounds like it was still just a work in progress.
Well in IceCap's case, both versions are identical. The only difference between the Origins version and 1103 prototype in IceCap is Act 1 shares the same instrumentation chorus from Act 2 in Origins. While in the 1103 prototype, Act 1 has its own main bass instrumentation for the chorus.
I honestly prefer these prototype themes. They feel more like Sonic songs. That and I hate Carnival Night and Launch Base zone's themes in the original.
Look it's mr I hate mj for literally no reason other than to be a dipshit and not realize that mj didn't even make the final Icecap but instead Brad Buxer
Me too. This is nice but too cheery. Considering that time is of the essence in Ice Cap because the Death Egg is preparing to launch in the morning, you have to get to Launch Base urgently! The finalized Ice Cap gets it across pretty well.
@@AstroTom This is how I see it. Ice Cap prototype theme fits more with the environment outside in the snow. While Ice Cap final fits more with the situation around the story. Ice Cap prototype fits with the beautiful scenery and environment Sonic appreciates around him, while Ice Cap final fits with Sonic feeling cold and at the same time hurrying up to catch up to Robotnik. They both fit in different ways.
I get that original icecap is great but this song is pretty good. Ironically, all prototype songs fit their zones pretty well. in Sonic 3 air I have the prototypes for act 2 and originals for act 1
I disagree, but I do like it. It just doesn't come near Icecap to me; Icecap always felt kind of calm and slow, which is something I said to a lot of replies, but that's the best I can explain it.
REALLY! It bothers me a lot that people say that the Ice Cap theme is SHIT without so if I want to think about the obvious, this theme is INCOMPLETE!!! And it won't sound that bad in the final version 😠. This theme can work, and there are remixes on youtube that prove it, and I don't doubt that the Origins remix will be remarkable (And maybe with some reference to Hard Times)
@@the-NightStar Was this really necessary? I really don't get why people always try to make a "correct opinion", it's annoying, along with all of your other comments about other people's opinions.
The Sonic 3 remake from the Sonic Origins compilation was rushed because it is lacking: 1. The prototype Super/Hyper tune. 2. The prototype Knuckles tune. 3. A remixed version of Lava Reef, Part 1's background music, which was never used for Lava Reef, Part 2. Instead, Lava Reef, Part 2's background music is the Hidden Palace background music looped. In other words, Lava Reef, Part 1's background music and the Hidden Palace background music sound nothing alike. And 4. The prototype level order.
I hope they use for another game, even if it'd be the third game it'd show up in. MJ's Ice Cap fits the zone better admittedly, but this song is pretty good.
This has serious mega man battle network vibes. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that someone on the sega sound team who contributed to this song went on to score/compose for capcom.
I disagree, that isn't to say I dislike this at all, it just feels unfitting for the setting of act 1 since it takes place inside of a frozen mountain/cave. I would prefer it took place outside like Act 2 but is just me. So in conclusion, the final fits better when inside caves while the beta fits better when outside (basically Act 2). Quite a compromise.

Wow, they couldn't even add the drum part in Origins smh
This track would have been respected way more if the MJ version never existed.
I don’t care what anyone says, it’s better than the final ver
this is going to be on sonic origins
Not exactly. A rearrangement of it will be.
*Flintztones - Easy Times*
Much more appropriate for what is technically not even midway through S3&K.
Look it's mr I hate mj for literally no reason other than to be a dipshit and not realize that mj didn't even make the final Icecap but instead Brad Buxer
I can say This is a really funky festive monkey Friday!
lmao *sad skeleton noises*
The official remix of Crystal Egg Zone
Now it actually sounds like a fitting song for the zone.
Yeah. Sounds cold if that makes sense....?
I do not agree with you.
@@JavaCake the final one did imo
The final fit more. It was a cold and icy cave, this sounds like a winter wonderland. Icecap isn't.
Sounds like something you will hear at a slushie store if they had a radio to attract kids.
I think the final version of Icecap Zone music was better than this.
WAY better.
Better for the zone, but they’re both good pieces of music
Me too. This is nice but too cheery. Considering that time is of the essence in Ice Cap because the Death Egg is preparing to launch in the morning, you have to get to Launch Base urgently! The finalized Ice Cap gets it across pretty well.
I prefer this one, but they're both good
@@AstroTom This is how I see it. They both fit in different ways.
this sounds like one of those relaxing music videos
and i love it
So this was actually the original version of the ice cap zone. So that’s why it’s different from sonic origin’s
I get that original icecap is great but this song is pretty good. Ironically, all prototype songs fit their zones pretty well.
in Sonic 3 air I have the prototypes for act 2 and originals for act 1
I absolutely love the prototype of ice cap zone thene
FINALLY SONIC 3 GET THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES IN THE MOVIE
The only example of the final track sounding better than the prototype IMO.
Nope.
@@lucianajoaofelipe IMO = In My Opinion
Mushroom hill too
launch base as well
Dewdropp the final game’s version of Launch Base Zone is a fucking jam, one of the best tracks in the game. The prototype version is boring as fuck
It sounds like bonus stage music
I swear it does 😂
I was thinking the same thing
This is better than the final version.
Absolutely disagree. This version SUCKS.
I disagree, but I do like it. It just doesn't come near Icecap to me; Icecap always felt kind of calm and slow, which is something I said to a lot of replies, but that's the best I can explain it.
@@the-NightStar No u
Thelxinoe you're right, it's freaking amazing

this song needs loads more respect.

actually why is this way better than the final version
No final version is way better but this gives happy vibes
A simple snare drum can change a song so much
banging music, so much better than whatever the fuck happened with the 20 second loop we got in the final.
Super Sonic is the horrendous 20 second loop. Ice Cap is Brad the localizer inserting his own pop music
@@LethalBubbles Ice Cap is just the same two tiny loops repeating over and over again with zero variation, and It doesn't even fit the level..
The final has better rhytm, and it's in the final game, as for origins, it uses this souless theme but its even worse
better than jun senoue’s version. idk how he botched it. smmmh
This is literally Crystal Egg Zone
@@michaelg4981 well no shit it’s 8 bit vs a 16 prototype

jun didn't murder this track
he did just hurt it
I like this one a lot. Has more of a jolly Christmas feel to it compared to the MJ Ice Cap. Act 2 takes that even further with the higher pitch.
I kinda dig it
The original beta Ice Cap Act 1 felt incomplete, but it does now that it’s remastered.
is it bad that I wish
ice cap and carnival night had their proto music
Yes.
okay 😔
It’s not bad, in my opinion the prototype music is way better
Hell no those are bangers
@@ChaoticVibes4444 they're good but
i dunno the prototype versions have a lot more personality to them i can't explain it lol
REALLY! It bothers me a lot that people say that the Ice Cap theme is SHIT without so if I want to think about the obvious, this theme is INCOMPLETE!!! And it won't sound that bad in the final version 😠.
This theme can work, and there are remixes on youtube that prove it, and I don't doubt that the Origins remix will be remarkable (And maybe with some reference to Hard Times)
nah, gotta say origins really dropped the ball on this one and given it was sega I feel like they weren't just lucky assuming it would be shit
@@wyn9693 Can you blame me? I wrote that before the disastrous result of the remixes was revealed, ironically Ice Cap was the least affected.

Well, this is unfinished too xD
i like this more than final version

I'm happy that Ayuwoki came and helped them
The Sonic 3 remake from the Sonic Origins compilation was rushed because it is lacking:
And 4. The prototype level order.
hidden palace is a remix of LR act 1, the main melody is just harder to hear in the hidden palace theme
The song for Hidden Palace Zone was made for Lava Reef Zone 2, it shares a slight similarity with Lava Reef Zone 1. So it is remixed, just heavily.
damn, really good remaster
At the beginning of the song you can kind of hear some of the parts used in the Sonic and Knuckles opening title song.
Holy shit this one wasn’t changed much for the final release for origins interesting
I hope they use for another game, even if it'd be the third game it'd show up in.
MJ's Ice Cap fits the zone better admittedly, but this song is pretty good.
Thank you so much for this! It's an absolute improvement
I'm not sure how I feel about ice cap being replaced with this
Won't be exactly this either. A remix can change everything :p

This has serious mega man battle network vibes. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that someone on the sega sound team who contributed to this song went on to score/compose for capcom.
That square wave tho
if only they got you to provide the music lol
This sounds similar to crysta; egg from Sonic 2 abit and also angel island from Sonic Advance 1
Interesting
Because Ice Cap prototype theme is a remix of Crystal Egg theme from Sonic 2 8 bit.
Woah.
I could’ve sworn they used this in the Roblox game.
I think this is better.
I think it really sucks.
Well thats your Opinion.
@@chris6471 Yeah you're right actually
It’s a HARD TIME to get over this
I loved this track in sonic3 complete now hearing the actual one is so great no offense to the final one.
Sonic origins but better
This gives me SRB2 vibes for some reason
better than final
Ehh no, origins had to fuck this up
they should have just made the prototype versions the one used in origins

the prototype ice cap music has the sonic origin's music
Much better! See? The proto / PC melody for Icecap isn't that bad. Gonna say I still prefer Act 2 tho'.
