Doing this made me have even more respect for how Elon lands his boosters in real life. Lol shit is super hard if you don’t look up any guides or anything.
I just hit Z at a slightly lower altitudes until you find that magic number. What is really, really, really, really, really, really, HARD is Landing it on the launch pad !!!! :-) I've seen people do SpaceX landings in KSP, But they use MODS file editing and pre-programming it. to complicated for me :-)
@Daniel Brennan I tried many, many, many times to land this scenario challenge on the launch pad with stock game. no mods or cheats. there is very little fuel available for the manoeuvres you mention !! i got close but never quite nailed it. can you post a video ?
@@KensonKerman mods are the only practical way to do it. SpaceX creating specialised hardware is essentially like modding real life xD. I couldnt imagine SpaceX performing their landings with RS-25s and shuttle main tanks lmao.
@@DatInnocentGuy Yes probably true. But programming it to land is a different game to landing it yourself ;-) also this is a pre-set scenario. so you take it as it comes :-)
LOL ;-O Well you've had plenty of practice !! maybe try a slightly different approach ?? Do a quick save as soon as the scenario starts. it's quicker to reload the quick save than reload the scenario !! Then try this,.................... 1. Make sure the air brakes ere deployed 2. Select the Retrograde node 3. After the fiery re-entry phase deploy the landing legs 3. Don't do anything until 650 meters from the ground 4. Hit Z (max thrust) 5. When your speed gets down to 50-60 m/s quickly reduce the throttle back to 50 % 6. Reduce the throttle bit by bit as your speed drops, but don't go below 5 m/s until touch down 7. Hit X just before touch down, when your altitude is 94-96 meters. (Your altitude will be 93 meters after landing)
I did try that the first few times, but it doesn't work. So i disagree, this way works with the very limited amount of fuel it is carrying. (and SpaceX does it this way !!) and if you want to see max thrust at a very low altitude watch my other video from the link in the description. Have you tried to do this KSP Powered Landing scenario ? show me your video ?
Doh !! sorry thats obviously the recorder :-( I use the Windows Movie Maker (2012). it was part of the basic windows 7&8 installation. it was in the ms app store and else where on the web. It is free and simple to use.
Hi Trent Szachnitowski Sorry if it's not what you expected. I don't believe i ever said this was a tutorial. It's just me trying to do the one of the scenarios included in the game. Have you tried it yourself ? But thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Cheers. Happy Kerbaling.

I land my rockets all the time in this game, so I figured this would be easy. Twasn't.
the entire time i was screaming *RADIAL OUT!!!*
Ha Ha Ha, yep so did i, after it was too late. didn't have enough fingers while panicking lol ;-)
I am late but nice video and nice landing, this took me so long to correctly land.
mechjeb landing guidance go brr
Pro tip: if you use the any wheel menu and go to scenic mode then everything goes in slow mo which helps a lot when attempting a landing
Thanks for the tip. But, i've been playing KSP for 6 years and i have never seen a wheel menu or scenic mode !!? are you playing a console version ??
Yes I do play on console and the wheel menu is used to replace all the key binds for this version of ksp
Ah that'll be why then. i'm on the PC version :-)
i almost got it first try lol, i was 10m/s ish off, and one of my legs was destroyed
i have been trying this for a year now

You're supposed to use very little thrust and gradually throttle up more the lower you get, not go max thrust at a very low altitude...
I did try that the first few times, but it doesn't work.

Kenson Kerman already did it, didn't record, and can't anyway.
Kenson Kerman name me a good and free screen recorder and editor.
Kenson Kerman editor?
Doh !! sorry thats obviously the recorder :-(

you have to have a script or do maths
but I don't know the formula
lol No i don't have it either ;-) so i fly by the seat of my pants !!!
wow old stuff cool :D
Old Stuff !! :-O It was only 5 years ago,... lol :-)
Nice vid
Cheers, glad you liked it :-)
Np ^-^
should only use 1 engine for better control
I used all available engines and varied the amount of throttle as the speed decreased. 1 engine might not be able to slow you down enough !!!!
Lmao, all his fails!!!
its pain to watch u dont use radial out and not landing it so easy!
Lol yes it took me a while to get everything right eventually i used retrograde node to land :-)
I did that first try
Wow, well done :--) have you tried doing it with one short last minute burn ? ;-)
@@KensonKerman yep just like SpaceX. want to see footage of it?
yes, be great to see how you did it if you've got it :-)
:)
sorry but first dislike ;v) no offence and this is not a tutorial :v/

Nothing indicated that this video would be a tutorial.
