- Vittorio Costantini is a Venetian glass master known for his precisely rendered small flameworked sculptures. He is inspired by nature, and he works with a range of subjects, including multi-colored insects, butterflies, birds, fish, and flowers. Costantini's pieces are celebrated for their accuracy of form and truth to detail. The film, by Academy and Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker Robin Lehman, was made at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass.

When my 9-year-old and I stumbled into his Venice studio in 1990, amazed by the beauty of Mr Costantini's creations, and we were welcomed by him for over 3 hours in his tiny studio. He very happily showed us how he made fish, butterflies, and birds. We bought several fish and butterflies This all clearly made him joyful.
It's fascinating to watch him make a fish; the stretching of the gold (or silver) foil to mimic fish scales was particularly so.
He actually gave swan to my son.
Sweet man.
Wow... the things Mr. Constantini makes out of molten glass are just gorgeous and so realistic. It's also mighty nice of him to share the joy of working with glass with others. A great, great art and an even greater guy.
The idea and process is relatively simplistic, but the amount of work required to achieve Vittorio's level of accuracy and and skill would take a lot of time and dedication. The work really does show in his creations, though. They're beautiful pieces, and it's very fascinating watching him construct them.

@potheli "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgskij, probably the original version since it's piano, but I'm not sure, there were many other versions of it, including orchestral ones.
@2109MI It's Mussorgsky's Promenade, you should also listen to Emerson, Lake and Palmer's version on their album Pictures at an Exhibition.
That is amazing! I want that octopus. Also liked Debussey at the end ha ha. Can you buy these over the internet?

Cher MrBiquet54,
we have no doubt that the French glassware are highly skilled, too. The difference is that most of the French flameworkers use borosilicate glass, which is completed different from the "soft" glass (EffetreGlass from Murano). Have you ever tried to use it? Or do you know any French flameworkers who use "softglass"?
where can I get a glass spider like that?
: / song name starting @ :52 ? Really bothering me that I can't remember the name.
Wasn't the last BestofRUclips video about glass too?
@Wtown06tt He began his apprenticeship about 15-20 years before he opened his own shop, as far as I've been able to make out. But in that time he must have learned tons of more general skills, spiralling into the more advanced stuff like this. And I gather most of this stuff is "his own", techniques he has personally developed after a lengthy observation of the creatures he works to reproduce etc. I'd guess 2-5 years of hard labour to be able to crudely copy his collection of insects alone.
Whats that song at 2:16??
@Gracelyassa at 1:55 it shows him making a penguin. There is a currently popular meme on the internet titled "Awkward Penguin" in which a penguin is used to represent awkward things we all do occasionally.
i bet this dude could make some gnaaarrrrrrly smoke pieces.
@Grimoi Exact words right out of my mouth.
Does anyone know the name of the song at 2:15?
Id like a bowl made by him :D
Emerson lake and palmer!!!
I wonder how it feels like to get your hands/fingers on the flames. I guess it hurt just a little bit =)
MUSIC! Please, tell me the name of the last song!
Whats the song at 2:15?
Does anyone know where I can buy his work?
Whats the name of the song at 2:16
@kosilveriarn Why?
whats the music man!!!!
@anaispollo maybe, but when it comes to sculpting, mistakes are really hard to fix, when drawing you just erase them, (and computers make drawing a bit easier)
@MoForceberg yaya Thx! :) Actually just found this out from a previous comment on the video hidden as spam (like I said it was bothering me).
I hear this music and immediately think of The Incredible Machine
requiescat in pace vittorio
@kosilveriarn yes i do
He might be sharing his techniques but you can't give away experience and that's what he has over just about everyone.
@krispwnsu Yeah, but there was a socially awkward penguin in there too, somewhere around the 2:00 mark I think...
that spider looked so real. wow.
i want to eat this glass it looks tasty :
@kmlkmljkl I was wondering where I recognized the music from!
