    Which chord progressions do you find important in minor and did I miss one?

      Yes, I would like to watch the Major version of this video. I grew up playing rock, then branched into fusion, classical and metal, so there are still a ton of standard jazz progressions I could learn a lot from.
      Thanks again for all of the excellent lessons Jens. You rock! Ermm.. You jazz! ^-^

      I think you’ve mentioned before is how the Cm/Am7b5/Dm7b5/G7b9 I-VI-II-V turnaround is basically the minor key equivalent of rhythm changes, in standards like “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise” for example. And as with major rhythm changes there are many variations you can make, one thing I like is to make the IV and II chords altered dominants, Cm/A7#9/D7#9/G7#9. This imparts a darker bluesy sound to the progression that I’m fond of.

      Thanks for including the Ab7/13 G7b13 C-. The interchangeability of the Dm7b5 and the Ab7/13 was the thing that first let me 'hear' a tritone sub.

I don’t know if people in general actually know how much work it is to edit a video like this and doing it in such a great way. Always great, thanks Jens and congrats on your outstanding growing RUclips channel. More Jazz to the people!! 💚/E

    Nice video Jens, just the right length. If it had been 20 minutes, I probably wouldn't have watched it. I'll definitely watch it a few more times as there is a lot to take in. Some lovely sounding chord progressions here and that's just what I'm looking for. I know loads of chords and understand how they are built but understand less about how they all fit together. That's where you come in. Thanks.
    I would appreciate you doing a video on Chord Progressions in Major.

I really enjoyed the examples you played with the chord melody arrangements, I've been trying to find something like this to help with chord melody work like in your examples. @@JensLarsen Jens, i have 3 questions related to the jazz guitar road map... i have been learning the triads arpeggios using the CAGED system. So 1st question would be.. which system are you teaching in the road map? (CAGED, 3NPSS, Berklee) question number 2: is there a buying warranty, or something where i can see which method are you using and if i fee confortable with it? :). and last question: are you teaching many positions on the neck or just one which fits all? i mean just one that you can use this knowledge to use it on others. Sorry for the questions but are my 3 doubts regarding this interesting course. Thanks a lot in advance! All the best!

    Like the way you go RIGHT IN on this one...even seems like u guys put the tag "my name is Jens Larsen...learn jazz, make music" a little bit later.. Anyway awesome and very useful topic ...and by the way...I have dismissed Pat Metheny for many many years...after following your lead on jazz guitar..I decided to give him a more matured listen .and dammit...I get it now. Metheny is a great jazz guitarist if for no other reason he has developed HIS voice on guitar...sounding like noone else...using eastern influenced modes, (phrygian?) and minor 2nds and very distinctive picking techniques...Miles use to say that the greatest challenge for any jazz musician was learning to play like yourself. Metheny does it to the max.

      I had a student who never ever understood that songs were cyclical. That you **repeat** one part twice and then move to the chorus, bridge, turnaround. Whatever. We would have to start the whole song over if he messed up in the third chorus. I broke it down and we just played 'sections'. I don't know if he really got it, but eventually he was playing in a band for pay.
      I would ask your student to explain in each part why it is interesting - to him or to the listener. So maybe then he can identify the moving note or the flow of the chord progression. At root, ask him what he likes about it. What sticks in his mind. If something sounds 'right' or 'wrong' and try to figure out why.
      I told my son that country music plays notes ahead [up the neck] from the root. Blues plays them behind [lower on the neck]. That gives you major or minor positions. You have to be able to hear the difference but if you learn it mechanically, you eventually learn to hear it.

    Hi Jens -- just curious, here: what's with the new-age-y light bulbs that have popped up in your vids. and in those of a lot of other youtuber types? (I see them in Rotem Sivan's vids a lot -- who else? Is it just jazz dudes? Not sure there.) Anyway, -- I mean, they look nice and all, but it seems weird to see them popping up all over like some fad nobody told me about. It kinda makes me nervous that way -- do I need to buy one? Will my kids think less of me? Or are they a sponsor perk or something that I won't have till I reach a million subscribers? Cheers, Drew

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  3 года назад +1

      I believe they are often called edison bulbs? They are in a lot of YT videos because they are 1 - very warm, so a nice contrast to most key light for separation, 2 - they are mostly dimable which is super useful for practical lights in the background, and they are really cheap :D But even though I only used one for the last few months(?) then this is something that has been around for at least 5 years.
