  • Preparing your work surface is so important for longevity and durability! Watch how I prep my cups here. It's not the most glamorous part but so worth the effort!
    I have dropped several of my own cups and the epoxy is still in tact. This may not always be the case but it definitely helps.

  • @pintobean8935

    Thank you for sharing this. I'm new tumbler making and want to practice with some I already own. Do you paint All your stainless steel tumblers/bottles White - regardless of the glitter color you use? I mean, for example, use white base even for darker shades of glitter? Or only iridescent ones? I have some personal tumblers that already have colors on them so I was planning to keep the original paint on them. What do you recommend? Thank you.

    • @VioletDoodlesBoutique
      @VioletDoodlesBoutique  5 лет назад +2

      I always base coat white, iridescent colors, lighter colors, etc. with white paint or a matching paint color. I always base coat black with black paint. You can even switch your base coats around to get different effects. I have a pretty pink that turns to a gorgeous blue/purple when i base coat black.
      There are times I don't base coat. If I am using an opaque glitter or silver, I can skip the painting step.
      Base coats help the glitter color stay true to the color it is meant to be or to change it on purpose.
      As far as the cups that are already coated with something from the factory, I would sand them a little to rough up the surface.

    I'm struggling with the bit of epoxy that covers the edges and onto the bare steel pulling away. I see you don't prep that part at all! Maybe I've left too much space between the design and where I tape off? Every time I add another layer of epoxy, I leave another tiny gab, but then it does end up being like a bit wider. I hope you can help! It's so tough to find information on this.

    • @VioletDoodlesBoutique
      @VioletDoodlesBoutique  3 года назад

      It will move a bit after you pull the tape. If you want a thinner line, you can try waiting a bit longer until you take the tape off.

    • @VioletDoodlesBoutique
      @VioletDoodlesBoutique  5 лет назад +1

      I started with the one he made me. I did research on this hobby for a year before I was sure I wanted to get into it. So he made it for me a few year ago for a gift. He recently made me a few more so I could keep up. When he made mine, there were some available to order but most people were making their own. There are lots of premade ones available now to purchase. If you aren't sure, you can hand turn. Minderella has a video on how to do that.

    • @VioletDoodlesBoutique

      I have used it to seal glitter on a plastic cup to see how well it holds up. That cup is going strong after a few years. Epoxy will be more durable but not dishwasher safe. Try it and see.

    As long as the vinyl isn't on the outside layer are these dishwasher safe?

    • @VioletDoodlesBoutique
      @VioletDoodlesBoutique  5 лет назад

      The vinyl isn't the problem. Most stainless tumblers are not dishwasher safe bare. The epoxy is not dishwasher safe either. These are handwash only. Similar to a hand sewn garmet; you would want to take extra care because of the amount of work put in.

      Acrylic and chalk paint work, as well as air brushing. The only problem with acrylic is to get a full coverage, you will need to do several coats, letting it dry between. If you use an opaque color of glitter you can skip the painting step.
